We have the same alarm system where I work the speaker strobes are both wheelock and simplex true alerts we dont get many false alarms as I thought we would get
I'm going to be working at a hospital which has a Simplex 4100 voice-evacuation system. So I'll probably often be hearing similar noises from time to time!
Well my commutry College had those alarms only thing is it's a Gamewell system well weeks the last week of Augest the fire alarm goes in one of the buding's that buding just does some slow whopping and the strobe just fresh's untall the alarm is reset but it sound's it does the wheelock snow whoop's than i think the main buding does thw wheelock voice.
Lee's alarms are much older, but do sound similar (same slow whooping tone but no voice instructions). I believe the panel is a Simplex 4100 and the alarms are 2902-9711 speakers with 2903 strobe plates. Lee has frequent false alarms (mostly due to shower steam), so you'll become quite accustomed to them.
@buhaw12 knew it was coming sooner or later...they go off at 4:00 this morning for the first time and it was ridiculously LOUD. the RA said it had something to do with the building being so old that on rainy muggy nights it sets the senors off...never realized how eery it would sound
The fire alarms in my Community College haves those wheelock e70's and the RSS. But the system is Gamewall's So those are the same fire alarms that they have in my Community College. But the only thing it's a gamewall system.
Those sounder bases are nice. They sound like GX-90's. Also, the 4100U has a built in 4003, basically. They can halt the whoop or voice tone. Or have just the whoop play or voice tone play. They can also cut power to strobes while playing either tone. It does all of these things at the same time during 4100U test mode.
BTW, they have a Simplex 4100U voice-evac system at the South Junior High School near my house, but the panel has a red casing, and the signals are TrueAlert speaker/strobes.
As I was taping this there were technicians at the panel playing with it, so it was something they were doing. I don't really know enough about the system to tell you exactly what though. I can say that In a real alarm it does not do that, and instead says the message only once, with continuous whoops thereafter (until its silenced).

The middle school near my house used to have a 4100U voice-evac system and it did the same slow whoop and message, but spoken by a female voice

Yes, this is the 4100U slow whoop. Everything at my school is different except the sound and the voice message is a bit longer.

I've never seen a regular alarm system go off with a voice evac. system at the same time!

Actually, the Wheelock E70's and RSS's are 15/75 candela, not 15 candela.
DVaccarelli1988 2 years ago
Yes, the E70 is 15/75, but the RSS is 15, as its a multi-candela version.
buhaw12 2 years ago
Sorry, last time when I saw this, I didnt notice the candela selector on the bottom of the RSS strobe.

Doesn't the dorm have any pull stations? If it does, I assume they have Simplex T-bar pulls
wilek209 2 years ago
They're near the stairwells.
buhaw12 2 years ago
That's good. I'm pretty sure they're Simplex pull stations, probably those "T-bar" ones Simplex has always made since the 1970s!

Why's the message abridged?

k im confused, why do the smoke detectors sound and then stop? why doesnt everything all go off the entire time?
alarm56 2 years ago
The people testing the system were turning circuits on and off.
