Hockey parents for the most part are boobs. Many of them here have never even played the sport and I'd imagine most of the Canadian ones failed at it as well. They base their own success on what their children achieve (or fail to). They hate losing more than the kids who are actually playing.

It's easy to get wrapped up in a game. I mean, it's like that with any team you want to win, irrespective of who's playing on the team. But the problem is what you mention, with the negativity. That has to be dropped.

When I hear smooth, crisp and clean as description for a beer, I really hear bland, boring and brewed for frat boys. If you must drink Canadian beer, do yourself a huge favour and get yourself a six of Mill Street Tankhouse Ale, one of the better beers brewed in Canada.

And last I saw, Ovechkin and the Russian mens hockey team got THUMPED by...wait for it...thats right...TEAM CANADA. Ovechkin hasn't won a Stanley Cup, niether has Kovalchuck. Crosby was Team Captain when Malkin won the cup. in the Last 30 Stanley Cups, there have been TWO Non-Canadian Captains, Nicklas Lindstrom (Sweeden) and Derian Hatcher (American).

Technically speaking, the Olympics designate the winner of any games as the most gold medals...silvers and bronzes only act as tie-breakers when ranking countries.
In all other sports, only the #1 team gets the prize, and in the Olympics' case it's the gold medal - so technically yes, Canada owned the podium, big time.
Though I'm sure you'd be really happy to see the USA win 75 bronzes and you'd still claim yourself the winner, right?

As a Canadian its kind of hard to feel excited of an outcome thats been decided for multiple olympics & no opposition.
I only see 3 outcomes for this sport's female counterpart. 1] it gets removed until it is more competitive. 2] Canada & USA gets barred from the tournament. 3] Canadian and American trainers/coaches go to other countries and help build a stronger opposition.
just like the Chinese curling team hired a Canadian coach and they decame WC champs. this might be the best route.
