My only issue is how you say "another film capitalizing on what's popular at the time" Then thats like every movie that's been released in the past 3 years with action in it since that's whats popular. As for Son of The Mask its targeted at little kids so you can't call it a piece of crap when the age cap is around 9 years old for it.

1. I doubt that the animated show ever reached the extreme campiness/silliness that Batman & Robin had.

2. I doubt that Schumacher or Akiva Goldsman (the film's writer) has ever seen an episode of the animated series.

Really, since when was B&R based on the show? I can't find anything on the internet suggesting that the movie was influenced by the show.

@eternaltwlight Well, that's not a very god excuse. By the time of the film's release, the television show had been over for 31 years. We had already been exposed to a darker side of Batman through Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns (the comic) and Burton's 2 Batman films. In fact, Schumacher wasn't trying to make it like the old series, he just thought the whole Batman thing was just silly in general and basically said "screw it, let's make it entertaining". And he failed.

The Wizard is a cult classic.

Maybe because when it came out I was 6 years old. This movie came out before the internet existed. I had never heard about SMB3 before seeing it unvailed in the movie. No one I knew owned a power glove. If you were lucky enough to have your parents buy it for you that made you a god. Which is exactly how Lucas comes off. The Wizard reminds me of the days when kids would bring video game manuals to school and brag about beating games that I still can't beat today.

Well, The Wizard was an awesome movie. Since I was part of the generation that was marveled by the Nintendo when it came out, I have a deeper appreciation for that movie.

I think it's easy for younger generations to look back on movies from previous decades and say how bad they are. But, it's a lot different when you grew up during that time and experienced not only the movies, but the all around culture that was going on.

The 80's were a rockin' time. You kiddies have no idea!

Okay, first of all, I can understand why people always defend The Wizard (for the exact reason you said), but it's not a film that has aged well. It may have been cool to see SMB3 on the big screen, but as the film got older, it became laughable.

Secondly, don't think I hate all 80s comedies just because I didn't like one of them. I actually love Planes, Trains and Automobiles and other John Hughes films. Just my opinion.
