The scene with the 2 battlestars pommelling the one Basestar ranks as THE most epic scene of BSG...probably ever! Even above the rescue mission and Pegasus suicide
its a shame its not like this in BGO it would be good but then again can they make it like this for a game, The best bit was when the vipers were using RCS slide
@pudanielson1 Also there is a variation of Bloodshed that I havent seen in any of the BSG OST. Is in the scene were the colonials are taking down the resurrection ship from "our" forefathers....
This series made the basestars seem weak by comparison. The only thing that makes them any good is their large compliment of Raiders and their offensive missiles with nukes, but even THEY don't do much against a battlestar.
Also, why didn't they think to get CIWS capabilities? (Ie shoot down incoming ordnance like the KEW fire?) They don't have any large cannons or anything to shoot back!
@SvenStadt basestars are supposed to be uber attack and nothing else. hence the nukes and hundreds of raiders. the raiders are used for defence and offence therefore negating the need for CIWS. and if they die then they just resurrect
battlestars are just brutes in that they can take loads of damage and still survive.
you can also think of it like different thoughts, humans protect themselves (hence more defence) cylons/robots dont care (hence offence only)
@SvenStadt The Cylons had the advantage of numbers and superior technology but the Colonials had the advantage of brute force and heavily armored ships that also had flak screens- fewer ships but extremely powerful weapons that the Cylons couldn't match. Remember that the Colonials were on twelve planets while the Cylons had one. As for the KEW, there's no way to block that since it is dumb fire (no lock on) and at close range.
@SvenStadt Modern basestars are, in fact, relying on swarms of Raiders and Heavy Raiders as their main defense - Raiders uses their great numbers and gain superiority when Heavy Raiders are attempting to board enemy vessel and kill whole crew by depressurizing the ship (as Admiral Caine said in "Razor" movie, when Heavy Raiders deployed several Centurions on Pegasus).
But without Raiders, Basestars are no match against battlestar (especially against Pegasus' main batteries)
@RayPall Not only that, but the main reason this battle is so quick and decisive is because without the raiders present the main batteries of both Galactica and Pegasus can be utilized as anti-ship batteries rather then have some if not most being used as flak suppression. As this would likely require loading different ammo as well.
@Infinity238 So I fully understand Cylons sucessfull attempt to sabotage Colonial fleet - in conventional conflict, Cylon losses would be catastrophic.
@RayPall They may not be catastrophic, but a conventional attack would likely result in a long drawn out war similar to the last one. The other thing to remember, there is no way of knowing how many mercury class battlestars the colonials possessed. From what we have seen, there were a far greater number of valkyrie class which are far smaller and carry a great deal fewer vipers.
@Infinity238 I've read something about it. Valkyries were attempt to build more smaller battlestars than fewer big-ass battlestars like Mercury class (because I can imagine that building such a monster as Pegasus was extremely expensive), but God knows how much advanced technologies and weapons they had.
And numbers - according to what Starbuck said in pilot movie, in time of Fall of Twelve Colonies, Colonials had about 120 Battlestars of all types in service. Quite a force.
@SvenStadt They relay on the superior firepower from their raider, like the Carriers of WW2. Battlestars are more like battleship but with fighter capabilities
@Planetar17 i am guessing so but a different barrel length. example durring the second world war the North Carolina and Iowa Class battleships had the some Caliber but different Barrel length (16inch 40 calibers vs 16inch 50 calibers in their case caliber meant barrel length) it would make sense. allot of WWI and WWII battleships also had the same caliber but different gunnery systems and barrel lengths. is it is possible
The first season was great. Then it just starts going downhill from there. Every other main character turns out to be a Cylon!?!? The writers either became lazy or the just stopped caring
@TafTabTah How sad, but true. Babylon 5 is my favorite sci-fi show and I seriously thought the new BSG would usurp it during it's first season, but then the writers either became lazy or stopped caring as you said. I regard Resurrection Ship part II as the real series finale because it makes it easier to then dismiss all subsequent episodes as a bad parody of the new BSG. This is what happens "the plan" is to make stuff up as you go along and hope to come up with an explanation later.
@Lonovavir@TafTabTah It would have been nice if they had done a better job with the story post-Season 2. There was just so much that was left unanswered by the Series Finale. What was Starbuck? One of the Angels or something else? What was God's plan because by the tone of the end of the series finale it seemed like they were hinting that the cycle of Humans creating artificial life and it rebelling was still continuing unchanged?
@Fbueller129 starbuck is supposed to be another angel. and yes it is hinted that the cycle will continue but it is really up to your interpretation if it will or not...
@Lonovavir@TafTabTah It would have been nice if they had done a better job with the story post-Season 2. There was just so much that was left unanswered by the Series Finale. What was Starbuck? One of the Angels or something else? @xsf908 A battlestar can use nukes as was scene in season 3 when Adama threatened to nuke the temple on the algee planet. A battlestars main weaponry however is kinetic energy weapons. These projectiles travel at high speeds and can do great damage from their impact. The cylons rely more on missiles and a few nukes as well to penetrate armor.
What is the name of the music that is playing at time index 2:11? I have a Season 2 and Season 4 soundtracks and tried looking on iTunes, but can't seem to find it. I love that soft, sad song as Apollo drifts into unconciousness. Can anyone help me with this?
@BOLDLYGO2007 Though pagliach is right, the exact music that plays here is from Season 3's soundtrack, Refugees Return. It comes on at the very end of the track.
Excellent upload. I know it was edited to condense time, but great job. Great use of fades to transition from scene to scene. It matched the emotion behind the story. Remember, the climax of Resurrection Ship was not the battle itself, but the emotional impact of Apollo "not being there" for Starbuck. Being there is what Apollo felt made them different from the Cylons. That human connection, to him, is what made them worthy of survivial.
after watching bsg all the way through I realised this was the first time the BSG and BSP had actually stood up to a fleet of cylons since the attack.
@qsxdrfvgy1 well there is a technological race between country's and showing other country's tells them how advance you are. And that you can keep up or go ahead of others
(Great video, sorry for the tangent) Makes sense in theory. That being said, if I were the personification of the communist party in Beijing, the dialogue would go like this: U.S: "check out our new rail gun" Me: "So? I have nukes" U.S: "We have nukes too" Me: "Can they stop me from using my nukes" U.S: "We have a better navy" Me: "Can they stop me from using my nukes?" US: "We have a new fighter plane" Me: "I own all your treasury bills" U.S: .......
In my opinion this episode had the best FX shots of all of BSG's space battles. I think ZOIC handled this job. Later on in the series it looked like another shop took over.
No matter how many times i watch it..i love it.. this is beyond typical sci-fi space battles.. its art.
We see the 2 BattleStars sorrounding and pounding a heaviliy damaged BaseStar.. then she explodes.. then there is some explosion over Pegasus, camera focus to see what happened and we see then Pegasus batteries turning to face the new target (the other BaseStar) and beggining to return fire on it and the camera follows the rounds to the new target.. its just brilliant
Brilliant is the word, one of my biggest regret from the series is that we never saw some all out war before the battle stars went down at the beginning. This sends the "don't fuck with man" message across since the colonies were so defenseless at the beginning. (Ah when the battle stars circle the dying base star, amazing!)
Agreed 100%. It's beautiful. In fact, according to Ron Moore, it was inspired in part by a true story. A WWII bomber pilot's squadron gets taken out during Midway and he's the lone survivor. So he is there floating along and watches the entire battle(three Japanese carriers get taken out) right in front of him.
The scenes where Apollo is floating around watching the battle is inspired by a real event. A U.S. pilot was shot down at the start of the Battle of Midway and he watched the whole thing unfold while drifting at sea.
man its strange how in this episode they are owning multiple baseships with no problems, but else 1 battlestar has usually BIG problems against 2 baseships
@M364M4Ncro well normally the galactica is using flak to try and stop incoming fighters and missles targetting civilian ships . but with no civy ships around the can just open up(alpha through echo switch to barrage or something lyk that ?). and the pegasus is in a whole different league less focus on defense and a lot more on jamming as many guns on the front of the ship as they can
2:14 The cylons use advanced alloys in all their machines. This can be seen in how tough the centurions are to kill. But what do they make the ressurection ship out of? Advanced alloys? No; glass of course!!! LOL
Part of that's probably tactics and common sense though-she was an old ship and they wanted her to protect the fleet as long as she could.
Every hit shortened her lifespan-eventually they added up. They were lucky she lasted as long as they needed her to last. Pegasus was brand-spankin' new and had twice as many fighters, not to mention a commander that got sucked into a Cylon trap(Garner)...therefore, she got to beat up on Baseships more often.
Still, in no other battle Galactica makes actual damage. You can see Ragnar and you will see shells going towards a basestar, but no damage. In New Caprica it seemed she was only firing flaks :S
I'm surprised they didn't add more dialogue during the destruction of the Resurrection ship; I would have loved to have heard the Viper pilots saying "FOR THE COLONIES!" after the order is given to empty their magazines into the ship.
Yeah, but the drama in that episode was about the tension between Adama and Cain and what was going on in the Pegasus' brig between Gina and Baltar. Frankly, I wish that we had two full episodes of battle but they didn't do that. I also wanted them to hold off to killing Cain for the season finale so we could explore that complex character and those on her ship.
If you check your channel contents, I recently posted up a link to an essay arguing that the Pegasus should have survived and Cain should have lived longer.
Yep, I think BSG could definitely have used more battle episodes as well. You really don't get the feeling they're at perpetual war without stuff like that at least once a month.
Haha. Yeah, I correct people on that too. I love how a lot of the technology in the series is in use today. Even the U.S. Navy has an experimental rail gun.
hahaha, i love how he not only spoils it, but he is well aware of what he is doing. he doesn't just say who dies. but it gives a synopsis as to why and how.
THE BEST, I'd say. The pyrotechnics are fracking unmatched by anything I've seen. The camarework is great the way it shifts in response to things. Music and sound=great too.
Lee should concentrate more on flying and less on looking out the side of the window talking his head off he might have seen the Raider heading for him.
The best space battle scene ever. It really shows the Battlestars' offensive abilities. Before that it was always a lone Galactica in a race against time not to be destroyed in a matter of a few minutes by two or more Basestars. Nice to see that they can actually tear the Cylons new a-holes when the plans come together.
The scene with the 2 battlestars pommelling the one Basestar ranks as THE most epic scene of BSG...probably ever! Even above the rescue mission and Pegasus suicide

"Set secondary battery."
"Full attack mode. Fire at will."

I'm surprised they didn't add more dialogue during the destruction of the Resurrection ship; I would have loved to have heard the Viper pilots saying "FOR THE COLONIES!" after the order is given to empty their magazines into the ship.
Mazryonh 2 years ago
That would have been a wee bit cheesy, no offense.
AllTerroristsMustDie 2 years ago
Maybe, but it certainly is an act of revenge against the genocide perpetrated by the Cylons during the attack of the Twelve Colonies.
Mazryonh 2 years ago
Yeah, but the drama in that episode was about the tension between Adama and Cain and what was going on in the Pegasus' brig between Gina and Baltar. Frankly, I wish that we had two full episodes of battle but they didn't do that. I also wanted them to hold off to killing Cain for the season finale so we could explore that complex character and those on her ship.
AllTerroristsMustDie 2 years ago
If you check your channel contents, I recently posted up a link to an essay arguing that the Pegasus should have survived and Cain should have lived longer.
Yep, I think BSG could definitely have used more battle episodes as well. You really don't get the feeling they're at perpetual war without stuff like that at least once a month.

I absolutely LOVE this scene, this is so beautiful! When the basestar explode... And the Prelude to War is amazing...

There's nothing more satisfying after a stressful day than seeing 2 Basestars getting absolutly pummled to bits :D

1:45 With Galactica firing everything...Main Batteries to the tiny Flak guns. Just Awesome.
For this positng its nice to hear it the way it was played on the show with no music. Just those guns blazing.

I hate to be a fracking nerd, but just to let you know they're electromagnetic cannons (rail guns), not lasers.
thegreatchimp 2 years ago
Haha. Yeah, I correct people on that too. I love how a lot of the technology in the series is in use today. Even the U.S. Navy has an experimental rail gun.
DTag 2 years ago
There's something about rail guns that's just deadly!
thegreatchimp 2 years ago
Thank Xenu there is no crappy music overlay on this one!"
hilarious

BSG has some of the best TV space battles ever.
yoyomon001 3 years ago
THE BEST, I'd say. The pyrotechnics are fracking unmatched by anything I've seen. The camarework is great the way it shifts in response to things. Music and sound=great too.

hey dude! not everyone is caught up on season 4 yet, chill out with the spoilers dude!

Its really quite special when TV gets treated to scenes that are better than what you're supposed to get in the cinema.
This goes on my list of TVs greatest moments.

It's.. it's beautiful.
Galactica is like a hedgehog with guns for thorns.

Lee should concentrate more on flying and less on looking out the side of the window talking his head off he might have seen the Raider heading for him.

He crashed Pegasus too! He's really not very good lol

Yeah like others said, thanks for uploading and not putting music on it.

The best space battle scene ever. It really shows the Battlestars' offensive abilities. Before that it was always a lone Galactica in a race against time not to be destroyed in a matter of a few minutes by two or more Basestars. Nice to see that they can actually tear the Cylons new a-holes when the plans come together.
type2mike 3 years ago
do cylons have A-holes?
al28283 3 years ago
I'd wager that's where they have their ouput systems (Or USB slots :-p)ha, I dunno...
The skinjobs certainly do.

Easily my favourite space battle from any series.
I don't know how any one can watch this and still think that the original is better.
Finger2212 3 years ago
I like the part when you see the cylon bodies floating out of the ressurection ship and then they burst in to flames. Great effects work on bsg.

The bits you deleted were pretty vital to the plot, but oh well. The Basestar blowing up at 2:00 is my favorite explosion, ever.
wavelength121 3 years ago
i like it how u keep it original with nothing added
danielaung691 3 years ago
That's why I did this, no music, no boring bits.
mranderson1986 3 years ago
What is the music towards the end when the vipers are strafing with no battle sound, as adama chokes?
Landhart81 3 years ago
No idea, I would say BSG sound crew.
