  • You know Zeppelin re-worked this song. It was originally an old blues song by a fella by the name of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie..... I like this Down cover too. It'd be cool to see them do a whole album of cover songs.

  • Phil Anselmo is a metal god.Plain and simple.

  • @74starky your fucking write there

  • this is so sick....Down simply is the best band out there and, in my humble opinion, will remain as such for quite some time to come.

  • They should do a real damn cover of this song. This shit in better quality would be great!

  • isnt this a cover from led zepplin

  • @SOOTHESAVAGE Sure is.

  • wtf which one is Phil?

  • @DetSomEngangVar93 the 2nd from the left

  • @Diakonov29 im ashamed I couldn't regognize him. slap me

  • lol why phil barefoot

  • @Belgdor Here in the south shoes are optional, as are shirts, its just how we're raised.

  • Phil - the badass in the picture.

  • @metallicaguyanddude uh which one?

  • anselmso was sent as a personification of badass.

  • man the people raggin this thing for its sound apparently have never heard a recording in a live format, let alone a demo. i'd hate to see their reaction to some of the hardcore punk recordings of the 80's

  • this is an awesome cover, as almost as cool as the Judge version....down pwns live...they should put this on the next album \m/

  • i swear i heard the band A Perfect Circle do this song, in a totally blues or jazzy way

  • @iWentToNam bluesy or wierd? they def did a version but its unique to their style. It on their emotive album.

  • I played this version every day we had high water from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Thanks for not breaking the levee's, Phil.

  • For some reason, I can see Phils voice fitting perfectly with many a Zeppelin covers if they attempted more. But thats just my opinion...

  • peppers bad ass slide work!!!!!!!!!!

  • great band. but not even god can cover zeppelin, fact.

  • KIRK FOR PRES!!!!

  • Great cover but it's missing the harmonica that was in the Zeppelin version.

  • @TheCfh4life Well if all covers were exactly the same as the original then they would be utterly pointless, wouldn't they?

  • ugh, so in order to be badass you have to distort your voice, add a shit load of distortion to the guitar, have a crappy drum sound...noooo, nothing as bad ass as Zeppelin ;)

  • @clix411 You labeled it "badass", not Down. They called it a "cover". Exactly what it is, like it or not.

  • @phantomshtter Oh im sorry, I was not aware it was a "cover"... I meant this in reply toward a couple of users who labeled it as badass. Now I label you, "asshole" ;)

  • @clix411 I'm distraught now that some internet nobody thinks ill of me. Whatever shall I do with my life now? LMAO Get fucked.

  • @phantomshtter Ah and i forgot that "you" are a somebody ;)

  • @clix411 Good to see you've got it straight now.

  • @clix411 Good to see you've got it straight now.

  • @phantomshtter

Hey man, i fucked your mom

  • @JesseMorabito Seriously? You must be fucking desperate. That's disgusting.

  • @phantomshtter

nawh dude she phoned me up and offered to pay me for sex. she said she had a horrible life and a failure of a son to deal with. dont worry i curb stomped her so she'd quit her whinin!

  • @JesseMorabito I feel sorry for you, spending your days chumming the internet for patsies to fall prey to your insults. We all know why you do it, it's the self hatred inside of you. You have a pathetic and fucked up worthless life, you actually get pleasure from angering others. It's really the ultimate sign of a purebred loser if you ask me. You'll spend hours on end trying to push that button in someone won't you? LOL.. and you call me a failure? BTW... Jesse is a fucking girls name.

  • @phantomshtter

ahahaha chill im just bored. and theres lots of dudes named jesse!

  • @JesseMorabitoBored? Don't you mean boring? Yeah right, look who turns the other cheek suddenly when they get told straight up huh?

  • fkin redneck bullshit

  • Now that's a remake

  • Now thats a remake

  • I wanna hear down cover Dream weaver. Crowbar kicked it divine... Phil would smash it up.

  • Down kick fuckin ass!!!!

Someone please tell me where I can find their whole set from this BBC broadcast?????!!!!???

  • I didn't know that Captain Spalding is in Down.

  • el supergrupo de phil anselmo ex pantera sonido lento , pesado , reminicensias de los ritmos sabbathicos y rock sureño , buena combinacion

  • Cooooooooooool. Where's the harmonica though?

  • PANTER + CORROSION OF CONFORMITY + CROWBAR = DOWN

  • @MrJotunheim Don't forget EYEHATEGOD.

  • i can see 20 people are fags.. down rules.

  • @bucktoyota they could have been disliking the video for its terrible quality

  • down is sick... ftw

  • If it keeps on rainin', levee's gunna break

  • Everyone who thinks the original is from Led Zep is an idiot!

The original is from a woman blues artist back in the 50's..

But I like Led Zep though, and Down offcourse!

  • Comment removed

  • @WesAndTheStooges It was Memphis Minnie who wrote this song but the reason hardly anybody name-checks her in relation to this song is because Led Zeppelin really made it their own 40 years ago.I would rather hear Zeppelin's version anyday over the original. No need to be a dick.

  • @WesAndTheStooges

Or maybe they're just misinformed. If you want to call people idiots, maybe you should do it properly.

    Of course. Not off course.

  • Nowhere near as good as Zeppelin's version. Down are an awesome band but this cover is'nt up to their standard.Reminded me more of 'Beneath the tides" than anything else.

  • Good job

  • one of my fav covers ever zepplin is the shit

  • Not too bad... Nothing will ever be as good as the original.

  • @throwsand most of the time ...but, these guys nailed this!!

  • @BG2515 grammar nazi, I like that, it's phone/txt short hand, I'm not gona go through the effort of writing a whole word unless the phone knows it, I'd be enclined to be more accurate with my grammar when writing for work... Fair point but yeh, there you go, solved...

  • Phil grew up in my neighborhood

  • how fucking BADASSS!!!!!!

  • #Khole87 So maybe before making some dickish comment, you'll read what the comment says, instead of making you own interpretation that allows you to sound like some kind of know all. Cos trust, u don't KNOW shit, ur just a fan, and good on ya cos u got good taste, just don't ever try and act like u kno it all, cos u just sound like a cunt.

  • @Mattiphone3743 I hate to sound like a Grammar Nazi here but... You've been writing for various publications with that spelling?!?

  • #Khole87 I've been writing about music for various publications for 5 years now, I don't need some little know it all, who hasn't even read my comment properly, telling me im wrong, I didn't say "this is Phil just after the heroin" I was saying, the abuse his body has bin through, and the fact he's a smoker has taken it's toll on the sound of Phil's voice, self inflicted or not. He's still brutal on stage, and the screams are just as brutal, but his tone has changed and at times is more forced,

  • #Kohle87, for starters I'm a year younger than you, don't try and belittle me, I'm not saying Phil is a worse singer, or lost his passion, it's just clear that his voice lacks the depth it had, drugs have taken a toll, and I'm well aware he's been off it a while, maybe before you start getting all fucking self richeous, like your some kind of guru, you could read the comment properly. If you listen to the live album, its clear to see his voice breaks at certain notes, and he forgets alot of lyr

  • @Mattiphone3743 Not that it's anything to be proud of,but I've had my bouts with various drugs and never had it fuck up my voice. Aside from slurring or slowed speech while under the influence. I'd be more inclined to think his voice is just beat up from years of screaming. You can't keep doing that for years on end with no side effects. =P

  • Old school classics such as LIFER etc etc check it out.

  • And if you look at recent Down live vids you will see Phil screaming louda and more badass than ever. He hasnt lost anything one bit only reached new heights.

  • This not Phil just after the Heroin, he has been off it for years. Actually it is far from it. This Phil at the time of the Over the Under Album and if you look into it probably Phils most deep and spiritual album after all of the chaos: Dimes death and the circumstances, and the Hurricane Katrina which blasted NOLA. Phil has been beind the microphone for 30 years plus andhas abused his body yes, but he is still going stronger than ever. In this song he has changed his voice to fit the style.

  • This is just Phil after the heroin, the abuse his body has been subjected to, through his own self destruction and medical issues alike, has taken it's toll on his voice, u gota remember this guy died for 12 minutes back in the early 00's

  • See above and before you decide to leave a comment get your facts straight little boy.

  • I love Phil and all but this version is complete shit :(

  • anyone who says this aint phil has no clue

  • if you dont think this is anselmo your a retard and im guessing you dont listin to pantera or down to tell

  • did what a cover should do. take it, make it their own.

  • Oh yea thats Phil. No doubt

  • here's the impression i got when i pulled my head outuv my ass.......its like watching a highschool reunion ....i watched nwa in a dive bar the other day in a small town in the midwest.....these boys r jst drunk and a having a good time.....i fuckin admire that ...just some good ole boy's .....sew'n they oats........god bless

also....as a child saw pantera many times an wutnot....my opinion be skewed

  • phil and down really do the best zeppelin covers they also did dazed and confused in concert it wasn't that bad but if they really coverd it for real it would be awesome plus phil sings the chorus of stairway to heaven at the end of live shows. He's the only lead singer that can cover led zeppelin and black sabbath and it sound amazing

  • Check out Zakk Wylde cover Mississippi Queen on YouTube!

  • i see alot of people saying this don't sound like phil, but i think it has some of his early Pantera sound. it's him. if you listen to him enough, you hear the range he's capable of

  • 100% Phil indeed... 1:30 ..Explains... IT IS phil!

  • it's 100% phil

  • i think this is not Anselmo

  • @MetalUpYourMind its obviously phil.

  • Sounds like a mix of Phil and Zakk Wylde. Hahaha

  • that didnt sound like phil... but i liked it.

  • LONG LIVE THE BROES!!!! NOWADAYS THIS BAND IS A GOD AMONG SHITTY MUSIC!!! Bands like this are a dying breed!!!

  • It's a good effort but the guitars are too dirty. Too much distortion, not enough clarity. If you listen to the original Page has hardly any distortion on his guitar. The songs heaviness comes almost totally from Bonham.

  • @parallelogramammoth if the guitars were not dirty it wouldn't smell like Down!

  • @parallelogramammoth do you know what a cover is? down was putting THEIR twist on the song. why would they try to duplicate led zeppelins sound? down isn't a cover band.

  • @ilovechipotle85 Just because you're covering someone elses song doesn't mean you need to change the sound or anything. The Zeppelin version is a cover also, and it's miles better than the original. They perfected this song, then Down come along and do a cover of a cover and it just doesn't live up to the Zep version. Like i said there's just no clarity, they tried to capture the hugeness of the original with too many filthy guitar tracks. It's really a sloppy effort.

  • @ilovechipotle85 everyone knows "when the levee breaks" is a cover song best known by led zep. this is DOWN's version. settle down, man. i didn't say which was better (it wouldn't matter). both bands are terrific and DOWN put out a great version of it.

  • My only complaint is that they cut the harmonica section. Aside from that this is fucking insane.

  • whenn the levee breaks momma you gotta moooveeeee you got to moovveeeeeawwaewkrjakernkn

  • Fucking trolls shut your face and enjoy the music

  • imagine if they had dimebag on this

  • @GenomeThrash

why would they have Dimebag on it?

Just because Phil Anselmo is in a band, do you HAVE to make fucking Pantera comparisons all the damn time?

Pantera and Dimebag are dead. Get over it.

  • @fieryfather Do you watch me making any comparisons about phil panter or anything all the fuckin time no,then shut up idiot,i was just fuckin saying wouldnt that have been a cool thing to do im not even making a comparison but no sorry ass people like you come and bitch n moan ohh get over it pantera is dead fuck you your dead and say dimebags dead get over it to vinnies face he'll fuckin kill you

  • @GenomeThrash I don't think Dime's style would've worked on this track. It's a completely different style of playing.

  • My favorite Led Zep song played by my favorite band.

Some things just cant go wrong.

  • fucking unbelievably epic!

  • Phil has just produced the new Warbeast cd, published with his label, Housecore Records.

  • This song probably takes on a personal meaning to the band as they remain loyal to their New Orleans roots and they perhaps sing this song as it relates to the Katrina hurricane disaster of 05.

  • phil only produced crowbar

  • Fucking Awesome!!!

  • DOWN could cover any song and it would be badass!

  • @billyjoe420420 Even Poker Face? Lol!

  • Does anyone know where I can this song

  • Nice!

  • Looooooove DOWN!!!!!!!

  • Hell fucking yeah!!!

  • Wow! This is really good! Perfect mix!

  • NO QUARTER! they need to do tht

  • @bkm504 Phil and Kirk already did No Quarter in Crowbar.

  • @soiled no way for real? never listened to crowbar heard of em just never listened to em thanks for lettin me kno without bein a total asshole.

  • @bkm504 Phil produced the self titled Crowbar album... They've been bros for a long time, I fuckin love Crowbar, and No Quarter is stellar!

  • @soiled and btw phil was never in crowbar srry

  • @bkm504 Phil produced the self titled album from Crowbar, and No Quarter was on it... I know my shit, and I know he wasn't in the band, but he worked with Crowbar on that disc.

  • this is cool as hell where can I find this song?

  • well done....

  • Comment removed

  • @TremontMC no This Is Down not Hell Yeah...jk

  • @Skinhead3456789 my bad...I meant to say fuck yeah

  • this is great hell yeah

  • led zepplin are gods of music...but the did get a lot of their influence from the southern blues that was around year before the were even born. Funny how awesome music come from us southerners then gets pick up by some foreigners and get popular and no credit is given to the southern musicians for it. The south don't need to rise again...we never left.

  • @swagwhore Most ppl understand zeppelins roots, aka they got sued a bunch cause liek all of their songs are unoriginal.

  • BADFUCKINGASS

  • best . cover . ever .

  • Yeah, there are tons of songs that Zepplin ripped off from other people and never gave credit to until like the 90's.

  • Correction, Joe McCoy.

  • Led Zeppelin didn't write when the levee breaks. Leadbelly did back in the 20's.

  • Bottleneck blues.....gooood shit my friends

  • Smoking a clove and totally feeling this. What a fucking ace cover.

  • They should have covered the original blues version that Led Zep covered and put their own musical stamp on that old favourite - especially as they are from NOLA, the home of the blues and the place where the "levee" did actually break..... I like both bands but I'm not feeling this.

  • why nobody makes a cover of Black Dog, by far Led Zeps heavier, most violent song

  • theres good led zeppelin covers.. tool did no quarter, crowbar did no quarter, a perfect circle did when the levee breaks, dream theater did a combination of the rover/achillies last stand/the song remains the same, i could go on. POINT BEING plenty of good led zeppelin covers.

ANYWAYS - i'm diggin this cover, good work

  • @freshpickedoranges Perfect Circle covered the original blues recording by Big Mama Thornton. Its an old folk song.

  • @jjcale1111 really now? huh i never knew that, thank you.

  • Wow... just wow. Soon as I found out about this I had to hear it - I knew this would be an amazing cover, after how affected Down were by Hurricane Katrina. Phil sounds like Matt Pike here! A great tribute TO a great band BY a great band.

  • it's good to see that a new band respects the legends

  • @Crasous New?

  • @Ignorant05 i mean in comparison with led zepp ;)

  • @Crasous New? These guys ARE legends! Stemming from Pantera, Crowbar, Eyehategod, and Corrosion of Conformity! This band bleeds royal blue blood!

  • @locosychocrazy1 u r right man.i just meant newer than led zepp

  • they rock so hard its mind melting

  • led zepplin is an inspiration to the most greatest

  • from what album is it?

  • Comment removed

  • It's actually on no album. Maybe as a bonus track on DOWN III but i am not sure. On my exemplare of DOWN III it was not.

    Hail Down!

  • @Kolyanich1488

no album...down did a bbc session during the tour in 2008. other song that were recorded were NOD, Jail and Beneath the tides. along with an interview with phil

  • A true Masterpiece!! Well done!! What a great cover!

Long live Phil and RIP Dime!!

  • This is great! This isn't a song I'd ever have thought them to cover. They make it their own though. Thanks for posting this!!!!!

  • man pepper is the badass of guitar..love phil and rex too pantera never died ...

  • awsome led zeppelin covers suck most of the time.

  • Led Zeppelin songs aren't that hard to cover for trained musicians. But to give soul/feeling/emotion to a cover version of their song that is hard... Led Zeppelin is basically about that dirty blues so you got to have that blues root and they got it here.

  • @hershysquirts187

    "zeppelin covers suck", huh?...

You ever heard Crowbar cover "No Quarter"?

    It'll change your life!

  • Awesome cover!

I just loved the heavy riffs on this one...and Phil doesn't sound himself!

Great job on an already amazing song!

  • They should maybe do Led Zep's In My Time Of Dying would be a good idea I guess...

  • @backdoorloverboy

I think one of the reasons why I really love this version is because I did not expect them to cover Led Zep....You expect metal bands to cover other metal songs and black sabbath songs.....but it never occurred to me that they have/can cover Led Zep! Not trying to say that Led Zep were not heavy metal or anything but I hope you get my point....

  • Yea Phil with Pantera did some Judas Priest covers live and a lot of Black Sabbath, well if Phil was able to pull those songs off so I guess Led Zep isn't a problem as well;). Heavy metal or hard rock sound was a big part of Led Zeppelin but they made as well pure blues, country, folk, funk, reggae etc Good Led Zeppelin cover is always welcomed:)

  • This is the first time really I hear any band doing their version of When The Levee Breaks so I guess people are really a bit afraid to cover Led Zeppelin. Drums especially are hard to reproduce... Well, John Bonham was a genius!!!

  • @backdoorloverboy bower power

  • @backdoorloverboy if you wanna hear a good cover of that song, check out zakk wylde's pride and glory covering it

  • man, phil sounds like zakk wylde there, awesome.what an appropriate song for some good old nawlins'boys

  • i agree 100%

  • is that Pepper second from the right? looks kind of like him. i see the Crowbar dude too! ...Down was competant band! * * * * *

  • was? they never broke up lol, I love Down

  • Yes, that's Pepper, and the dude from Crowbar. By the way, they are STILL a competant band.
