  • Rozsa was and will always be among the greatest of ALL filmdom's score composers!

  • @classical38 I beg to disagree. This one is definitely one of his better scores, but generally I think he is much overrated. His scores fade considerably in retrospect, and most of the time it is the same four-note fanfare, worked over and over again in fugue after fugue and spread willy-nilly over any film, regardless of which period it is set in.

  • Great recording. Bruce Broughton did a re-record of the Ivanhoe soundtrack, it sounds amazing.

  • Composer David Arnold (Stargate, Independence Day, Casino Royale) should definitely record / conduct / rescore this theme.

  • @WizardOfHumor1989 why should he do that? Anything wrong with the original?

  • @TheHighAdventure Nothings wrong with the original. Other composers sometimes record / conduct late legendary scores.

  • @WizardOfHumor1989 But you talked about "rescoring". But even leaving this aside, there are usually two reasons for (re-)recording legendary scores. Either because it is not otherwise available, or because the conductor can improve on the original recording. While the former is very laudable, the latter more often than not turned out to be a failure. In fact James Sedares is the only conductor I can recall who made re-recordings distinctively superior to the originals.

  • One of my favorites among the neglected Rozsa scores. Without this one, there would be no "El Cid" that's for sure! Terrific music! Thanks!

  • @artspeaking Thanks for the kind words. I hope someday John Fitzpatrick of Tadlow Music will do a re-recording of the complete score to "Knights of the Round Table."

You must be a great Rozsa fan. Be sure to check out "Parade of the Charioteers" performed by the Johann Strauss Orchestra under the flamboyant André Rieu (with hundreds of brass players) posted by DamadeAlmanza here on YouTube.

  • @amuggle15 Took your advice & saw the Rieu. Woooooooooow! I'm trying to compile ALL the best music on earth on one channel. I've got over 12,000 songs on 550 playlists so far - building the Rózsa list today & can't believe I've waited this long! I've playlists for about 20 film composers so far. When you see the immense bodies of work they've created all in one place, it's mind-boggling. I've so far listed about 360 artists & every year since 1900. Hope you come take a look. chuck

  • @amuggle15 A complete 2 CD set is available from INTRADA music, an on-line shop that deals only in music soundtracks. I have it and it is supurb. Good luck.

  • @baronwrangel1920 Thanks for the info. I got the FSM "Knights of the Round Table " 2 CD set already.

I still want Tadlow Music to do a complete re-recording (a la "El Cid"), however. They're doing the complete

"Quo Vadis" now. Hopefully, they'll have more Rozsa albums coming. I'll buy everything they put out.

  • @amuggle15 A recording of Quo Vadis? Excellent. Can you provide some additional info about Tadlow which is apparently a name I am unfamiliar with. My thanks in advance.

  • @artspeaking Indeed, but not SO neglected. Film Score Monthly (FSM) have released the complete score TWICE, once with the MGM Studio Orchestra complete with out-takes, and once with the London Symphony. If you don't have these, check them out. It's a pity the Polydor album here never had a legit release.
