Airbag on my sisters failed to deploy during a head on collision. I've owned two and I thought they were good until I bought a Toyota (then 6 more). Now Benz blows away that Japanese crap. I thought I had a really good vehicle too but once you live with a M-B for a little while, you realize no other engineering comes close to M-B.
I own the 2011 3.5 SR and just love it but it took a little getting used to when it comes to the ride. My butt had become adjusted to the cushy can't-feel-the-road ride that the Camry gives you. When you go from a smooth rode to a rough road in the Altima you immediately sense the difference. Stability is unaffected and control is superior to a Camry. This is a driver's car.
I have the '07 SE / best car I've ever owned regarding reliability. I bought it with 8700 miles / now have 81K! Car is "very" fast / but you have to time your moves with the CVT trans / it kinda has a mind of its own, you really can't point and shoot. Great for cruising / its like driving a 270hp golf cart with no gear changes. Negatives: seats are too stiff / like driving from a park bench / almost had to trade it in. But not one problem yet / I'm a mechanical engineer. Get the 3.5 only!
@redhead2hot4u2 Hi, The Altima is okay in the snow. It does not have AWD so if you are coming from a car with AWD, it will be challenging to get used too. When I drove in the winter, taking it slow around corners and such has kept me from getting stuck. It's a fantastic car to drive, winter and summer. The Altima is meant to be driven.
I live in Western NY, and it does fine on our roads. We've taken it up in the ADK in the heart of winter a couple of times, we haven't gotten stuck.
@redhead2hot4u2 As with most FWDs, Altima does pretty good in snow. I have struggled on ice before. Also once on snow, but it was quite a bit of snow, and I had the car lowered at the time. It high-centered. lol
My '04 I've had since new drives like garbage, but I gotta give it to them, it has been a very reliable car. Just two problems in over seven years of ownership. Battery, which I think was already 5 years old or so, and I abuse it. Second was a sensor, cam sensor I think? Two sensors you have to change, and while it is tricky, you could do it yourself(under $50 for the parts).
Again, I hate how it drives, but I can't complain about the reliability.
I still have my question unanswered. Do you do over 5,000 tests on EVERY Nissan MODEL? If no, it would explain the poor quality of my Sentra (that you decide to ignore and gets damaged at the Nissan Dealer Service Shop everytime we take it in).
