If you think this is out of this world over speakers you should hear it through a decent pair of cans. It is OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE in some other parallel one where sound is super enhanced.

Those fabulous stop-start piano riffs behind Sharon's voice from 0.21 (followed by Pizzicato strings at 0.56) -that become piano chord clusters in the second half from 1.41 Sheer genius. And such a beautifully simple arrangement that is far harder to acomplish than all that '19 notes per second' stuff. Yet I've never heard an arrangement like that before. With her voice it's just so sweetly SUBLIME it takes my breath away.It's like NOTHING else I've heard. Just can't stop playing it ...

Well I didn't study music either but I've just listened to 'Fields of Temptation' and I can't see the connection. I love Amy Lee -and that song has got Evanescence written all over it (with all that tortured angst and that weird middle eight). But the two voices and arrangements are so different and this song (Bittersweet) so straightforward - almost beautifully naive (and folky). That's why some Metal Fans can't hack it. I agree that this song (like Swansong) is atypical for Within Temptation.
I wonder why people keep saying that this song is as far from Evanescence as you can get when some Evanescence songs do actually have a similar flow to this one with a similar theme e.g Fields of Innocence But what do I know? I didn't study music at some Favmouse music Uni...
The odd thing is in making these spurious comparisons is that they choose to do it on THIS song! Of all 'Within Temptation' songs this is not just remote from Evanescence but also any OTHER so called 'Metal' band. But it is an Obsessive Compulsive thing to do on YouTube to make these phoney comparisons (just like 'hating' dislikers). We ain't going to stop it folks - mores the pity (sighhh) !!

Ok, Evanescence and Within Temptation have amazing vocalists and have similar music styles. They are both awesome so why get into an argument about who's better and how different/similar they are? Everyone is different, so some will prefer one over the other and there is no reason to argue about it. Oh, and this is a really great video and song!!!
No offense, I think she's good, except she's a bit like a less good version of Amy Lee. She kind of copies Amy with everything, music videos, clothes....
I think Amy has a much better voice that has a wide range and much more passion. I prefer Evanescence. But this is still good.

It's got more to do with folk singing (which is why one track Metal die hards give it 50 dislikes). And this particular song is about as far away from Evfanescence as you could possibly get (or any other Metal Band). I''m not well up in female couture but Sharon's dress style is as flamboyant as it gets - although dress is pretty irrelevant!

Take a listen of the aol live acoustic session of Amy singing 'Lithium' just with her treasured grand piano, a Cello and an acoustic guitar (therefore nowhere to hide) - its on YouTube. One of most extraordinary (live) performances I've heard.

@ratsrule85 As far as I know this was one of the bonus tracks on the German release of Mother Earth (2003 German Special Extended Edition and 2003 German Standard Edition). It also contained Restless (classic) which is another great song.

Those fabulous stop-start piano riffs behind Sharon's voice from 0.21 (followed by Pizzicato strings at 0.56) -that become piano chord clusters in the second half from 1.41 Sheer genius. And such a beautifully simple arrangement that is far harder to acomplish than all that '19 notes per second' stuff. Yet I've never heard an arrangement like that before. With her voice it's just so sweetly SUBLIME it takes my breath away.It's like NOTHING else I've heard. Just can't stop playing it ...

Well I didn't study music either but I've just listened to 'Fields of Temptation' and I can't see the connection. I love Amy Lee -and that song has got Evanescence written all over it (with all that tortured angst and that weird middle eight). But the two voices and arrangements are so different and this song (Bittersweet) so straightforward - almost beautifully naive (and folky). That's why some Metal Fans can't hack it. I agree that this song (like Swansong) is atypical for Within Temptation.

The odd thing is in making these spurious comparisons is that they choose to do it on THIS song! Of all 'Within Temptation' songs this is not just remote from Evanescence but also any OTHER so called 'Metal' band. But it is an Obsessive Compulsive thing to do on YouTube to make these phoney comparisons (just like 'hating' dislikers). We ain't going to stop it folks - mores the pity (sighhh) !!

Ok, Evanescence and Within Temptation have amazing vocalists and have similar music styles. They are both awesome so why get into an argument about who's better and how different/similar they are? Everyone is different, so some will prefer one over the other and there is no reason to argue about it. Oh, and this is a really great video and song!!!

No offense, I think she's good, except she's a bit like a less good version of Amy Lee. She kind of copies Amy with everything, music videos, clothes....
I think Amy has a much better voice that has a wide range and much more passion. I prefer Evanescence. But this is still good.

@chlobear281998 Her voice is nothing like Amy Lee's.and her phrasing , vocal ornamentation and style in this has nothing to do with Metal whatsoever. It's got more to do with folk singing (which is why one track Metal die hards give it 50 dislikes). And this particular song is about as far away from Evfanescence as you could possibly get (or any other Metal Band). I''m not well up in female couture but Sharon's dress style is as flamboyant as it gets - although dress is pretty irrelevant!

@chlobear281998 are you kidding me, have you heard amy lee live? i have. she is the most horrible singer yet i have heard live. it was a super disappointment. she cracks and her voice sounds more like they fixed it in the studio then she actually working on it herself. Sharon's voice is flawless. plus not only that amy is younger the Sharon so how the fuck do you know how long she been wearing what she does?

Take a listen of the aol live acoustic session of Amy singing 'Lithium' just with her treasured grand piano, a Cello and an acoustic guitar (therefore nowhere to hide) - its on YouTube. One of most extraordinary (live) performances I've heard.

@jezkn yes yes i have heard that one, yea one good performance but it goes without saying i would like to see alot more of that. its hard to actually tell if she will ever get where she needs to be. i know alot about music and i have to practice my singing daily. i can rely on my natural talent but i would love to be the best and being the best means practice. something i ofc hope she is doing more of. =)

I've seldom seen someone pack so much passion into one song as this gal. Every word - she squeezes the emotions out of till the pips squeak. .Listen to how she sings 'silence' amd 'violence' at 1.08. INCREDIBLE !

@ratsrule85 As far as I know this was one of the bonus tracks on the German release of Mother Earth (2003 German Special Extended Edition and 2003 German Standard Edition). It also contained Restless (classic) which is another great song.
