  • any updates for newer versions? I know you have a different version and that it is CS3 in this tutorial but some things are different. What wave level ranges did you experiment with? And did you use any masks at any point?

  • good tutorial but needs voice and the screen is way out of proportion

  • Looks awesome, but like some other coments, it would be great if you this tutorial again with your voice and step by step. It kinda seems difficult to follow with just text.

  • this is cool but i just dont get what your talking about im sorry...the tutorial doesnt make sense to me...can you speak english? if you can maybe you can just talk us through it?

  • The Wave thing and the next one are: Filter > Distort > Wave. And then, the 50% thingy, is Edit > Fade Wave.

  • And one thing, on 1:55 when he says to add a Color Balance layer, it's not "Color Balance", but "Gradient Map"

(I'm using CS5, for that matters.)

  • Why when i do filter render clouds it only shows clouds the color i have on, when you did filter clouds it kept all the colors you put on the canvas???????????

  • @geoi88i It's Difference Clouds. And make sure that your Foreground color is near the orange range.

  • /watch?v=Utg5xVecgPA Best fire text tutorial on youtube !!!HD

  • I sooooooo need the three layers (without cropping) :O

  • effect looks great presentation w/ no sound poor and u move around too fast

  • It'll be easier to understand if you could talk

  • looks like shit. there are way better technics to create fire. this one sucks...

  • @MrAve20 are you going to elaberate on this or were you just being a dick for no reason where can I find better techniques.

  • It's taken a while to figure out, but I've been able to piece most of the instructions together. What I don't get though is what you do in steps 16-18. I get to the Wave filter fine, but I don't understand what you do right after that, with the "50%" comment. I can't tell what kind of a menu pops up at that point. Can you please explain that part a little better?

Other than that, I like it so far. I can't wait to finish it. Thank you for posting. :)

  • at 3:39: Filter --> Distort (Dutch: vervormen....I think --> it's the 4th option) --> wave

  • /watch?v=AkskO6b5Fig

this may help anyone who is stuck!

  • this is shit, either give instructions by talking or make it more clear

  • The most helpful part was the audio. I like how you explained stuff in the audio and track. It would have been super annoying if you used annotations.

    Good audio.

  • what about for mac?? wat do u do with the ctlr and alt its kinda hard!

  • @teddygirljade only ctr has a different button on mac i think it jsut was a apple button logo thingy srry not into mac :(

  • @befrey ctrl on normal pc = CMD so command on mac that means that Ctr on normal pc , is the same as CMD on mac :)

  • @teddygirljade I think that ctrl is command on mac but i dont know. i dont have a mac =/

  • @teddygirljade control is command

  • @teddygirljade oh and alt is option

  • @teddygirljade fu*k-a-mac

  • @teddygirljade I believe the button for mac, would be cmd, instead of ctrl.

  • @teddygirljade IT'S COMMAND. YOU ARE WELCOME.

  • @teddygirljade On mac, Ctrl = Cmd, and Alt = option.

  • Okay, with the linear density (if u have cs4) use screen. and just click and figure out on your own how the color should be on your own

  • its going to take some time since you dont talk in the vid.. but damn nice work. rely cool and im gona try to learn this.

    thanx mate

  • i was doing fine until i got to the part where u ave to click ctrl + i. i kne higlight all 3 layers but when i click ctrl + i it doesnt turn black anybody ken u help me solve this problem

  • This would have been a really great tutorial if you had elaborated lots of it more and corrected the grammar mistakes as people mention the English names for the adjusments, filters etc, that you expressed wrong. :\

I really wanted to have this with my project x(

  • what is ctrl+i suppose to do? nothing happens when I push them.

  • @winnanthony Depends on what Photoshop version you have.

  • so which do u like better photoshop or 3d programs

  • at 1:45 its gradient map, not color balance

  • Please make a tutorial for CS5

  • Comment removed

  • IM SORRY MAN, BUT THIS TUTORIAL SUCKED ASS! I COULDNT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING

  • holland! holland! huuuuuuuuj huj huj huj! goeie tut btw xD

  • I have a problem with this: I use a gradient map to color fire but it only works on the background layer and not "layer 1/2/3" etc. How can I color it on another layer so that it doesn't mess up my background photo? Thank you!

  • @joshuathejedi Put the Gradient map layer over 1, ,2 and 3(which you should just merge) and hold down "alt" while your mouse is hovering over the horizontal line separating the now two layer(If you have merged). If you see that the mouse changed, left-click. That technique makes it so that the upper layer of the two only has an effect in the lower layer of the two, while leaving the rest of the layers below alone :)

  • Your fire effect is impressive, but Jesus Christ, the explanation is so FUCKED, you can't even call it unintelligble. I don't care if your version of Photoshop is in pijin, there's no excuse for such a sloppy, error-laden tutorial. It's not "Linear Density", it's "Linear Dodge"; it's not "Color Balance", it's "Gradient Map" (how did you fuck this up?); and you totally forgot to tell viewers to merge their fire layers. Horribly, horribly frustrating to follow.

  • This tutorials sucks on lumpy pieces of diarrhea. Nice effect though

  • On the step where he says Cloud filter he means difference clouds.

  • what's the first option in stylize? is it diffuse?

  • Yea i think so but it doesnt give that effect... :O

  • @jcmaxman It's find edges

  • Your work is actually good but your tutorial is not clear.

  • @clintdiamante99 thanks and srry i have a dutch photoshop and some words in english dont have the same word or the proper translation... and the isseu that the buttons are in different places.

  • when i choose the cloud option all there is, is the color that is selected.

  • @Teenager34 same here.

  • @Teenager34 he means difference clouds

  • umm at 7:04 and if you look at the right top corner, I think you can seen a face? lol from the fire.... looks funny though lol like a alien face :D nice flame though :D

  • What happens at step nine? when i choose color balance i can't colorize it with that type of gradient style :P

  • very impressive

    very good result

  • One word: INSAAAAAAAAAANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DazzleFreak at 3:41 its filter>distort>wave

  • And you don't select Color Balance you select gradient map.

  • By the way. When he says ctrl alt u instead just command U for your Mac users and use linear dodge

  • 16 min is long.. i wanna do the fire in my hand.. can i make it black??

  • 16 min is not long.....

    i have 3d projects that take 1-2months

and yes you can you just have to change the colors

  • @igniz92 honestly, if you think 16 minutes is too long for any project in graphic design, you should just stop and start a new career.

  • And at 3:41 no idea what they use. If you are using an english form of photoshop. Give up all hope to create this awesome fire because its directions are from a swedish or some language like that form and the translation is not working. Just save about a couple of days of your life and don't watch this.

  • first its netherlands.... and there isnt a simple translation for these words....sorry

and i see many ppl can make it

it is hard but the results are really good

and thanks for the correction in your comment below.. alot has changed in cs4.

  • also at 1:39 gradient overlay. Still can't find an answer for that either!

  • its layer - new adjustmant layer- color balance

  • OK!!! As a fellow photoshop person I will help any future people who have trouble with this. 1st you must have cs3 because the gradient tool is different and different at 1:21 its diffent with ctrl+i. 2nd, when the video says use clouds at 0:36 use difference clouds instead. Use it multiple times as said in video till it looks alot like their's. 3rd when they say go to stylise and use first option at 1:06 go to stylise and use find edges.4th at 1:30 instead of linear density Idk from there.srry

  • @DazzleFreak

i think befrey could make some changes now ;)

    thx btw

  • @DazzleFreak

thanx. that helps a lot and i actually found those out myself, but for the last one (linear density), it might be linear dodge (at least it turned out the same as the video's). my problem is i'm using CS4 now, so a lot of this is quite confusing and things are definitely not the same. now, i'm just stuck with using the color balance that's totally different. =[ more elaboration or video viewing would be nice.

  • @DazzleFreak

at 1:45: use Gradient Map instead of color balance (Photoshop will make a gradient with your foregroung and backgroudn color)

  • But really at 1:06 I can not do that step I do not think you are doing diffuse which is the first option in stylise and I download cs3 so help me out please!

  • very very very difficult to manuever in cs4. If anyone has any videos like this one for cs4 I would really appreciate it :D.

  • no man i checked it out its the only one on youtube :)

  • I can not make the grey into white with the diffuse option!

  • Thank you for this great tutorial! I was able to follow a little because I have an older version of PS but I was able to watch what you did and get ideas to make what I needed to. Have a great weekend!

  • indeed, it's difference clouds..

  • Ahhh.. i got it. its not "clouds" but "difference clouds"

  • Very cool Picture at the End but its fuckin impossible for me to understand what you are doing there.

  • pretty cool vid, but instructions are a little confusing, so for the benefit of others, get a mic. but still managed to get the fire up, THANKS! (: great vid still.

  • Really can't take any of this in without a voiceover.

If you can't speak good enough english for it, get a friend to do it? (:

  • I think it's filter>stylize>find edges?

  • DARN you confused me you lied about clouds it is difference clouds and the second filter is diffuse :\

  • Annotations? really? reallly??? get a mic loser

  • Interesting technique, but the bubbles aren't really helping with the step by step process. In fact, it just makes it more confusing because they are all over the place. Also, as the other stated, since the tutorial is in English, everything else should be in English as well, including layer effect names, filters, and such. We can't read your language like you can.

It would be better if you also had a voice over in this as well.

  • how do you put photoshop things ont like wmm cause i want to make a flame thrower but i don't know how to make a video like that in photoshop.

  • Thanks for the tutorial.. it's awesome :)

  • nice :)

  • sory dont want do be rude. but this is the worst step-by-step tutorial ever. not that u dont know english, but u could atleast try to translate the filters to english. here and there u skipped few steps, making it even harder to see "what in the world" u are doing. Reinstall ur photoshop in english and try again. for now.... 1 star = 1*

  • Whit = With right?

  • yeah i did the clouds and fuck all happened? every time i did it it made a different colour, nothing like what i saw you do...

  • Could this be done in photoshop ps2?

  • Great!! Looks very good. Thank you.

  • np and thanks :)

  • Awesome!! Luv the way you made it :) Im sure gonna use this

  • thanks and i hope you do :)

  • Hi can I get a bit help..? I have just got a problem. When I should do the Gradient Overlay, I can't get the color to mix together. The colors are kinda splitted up so one color on top one in middle and one in bottom. I need them to take each thing as you show... but I'm using CS4, and my thing is not set to 'linear density' (can't see) but 'linear dodge (add)'. My 'gradient overlay' is also placed under 'layer style'. Hope you can help me...

  • i'm not into photoshop cs4 and i dont know if there's any differents in the options i use...

but clearly there are more ppl whit problems using this tutorial in cs4

  • I dont get that last part at all....how do u make a white brush with that illuminating glow around it?

  • with the adjustement layer a top of the layer you use the white brush

  • Great vid man 5/5. The best fire tutorial I've seen. I'm working in Elements 7 and I don't need to make that color mess at beginning, just use difference clouds and choose a different color every time.

  • maybe you dont have to do it in photoshop to...

    i will try it thanks

  • wait i get it

    the effect is actually

    filter-->render--> difference clouds

  • hehe good that you founded it out :)

  • this is really amazing but the render effect "cloud" it always messes me up i dont really get that step could you help me?

  • yoo this is an amazin tutorial and i got it to be like yours on my first try :) ILY!!!!

  • Gratz and thanks, love you to :P

  • 10/10 dude, the best fire tutorial in photoshop I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing!

Oh yeah, it looks very realistic!

  • thanks ! and no problem :)

  • Can I get a render of that image?

    pleaseeee.

I'm trying to do it myself but its kinda hard

  • srry its so hard :( you will get it if i still have it ^^ and how do you like me to send it to you?

  • I can give you my email or something...

    lol

  • i have found the picture jsut give your mail and i will send it to you

  • ,well when i mix the colors then use cloud effect i couldnt make it like you did.

  • if you mixed the colors and did the cloud effect...

you chose a differen't color whitout aplying it to your work then chose cloud effect again

do this a few times till it looks a bit like me it doesn't has to be the same color..

  • what if your using a cs2 version? can you help me with that?

  • Cs2 shouldn't be so different then cs 3

  • omg :)) ur awesome i wil try this to my adobe photoshop cs3....

let me train my self as good as u :))

  • ^^ try your best ^^

  • good flames...i give 6/10 for this...

  • only a 6 :( well thanks anyway xD

  • what's that option when you press ctrl+i? Cause that's not working with me, and first option in stylize is diffuse, the only option that is similar to your effect in stylize menu is find edges, great video anyway :)

  • it makes the color go negative what photoshop you have?

  • cs3 extended, but yeah I already got it :) it works :D

  • ya i saw as u was doing things things where not in the same place or had the same name sometimes. O well but still good fire. I got close but was still good for what i needed

  • better then the fire whit the smudge tool... well i think its pretty clear now no mistakes in it.

  • i think the probelm some poeple are running it is that you say clouds but i just use Difference Clouds and i got the effect i was after so some people may need to use difference clouds

  • well maybe its in the new version.. and mine is netherlands. and if you translate the netherlands word its not even cloud :/

  • hey hes right... i dont quite get it.. you see after the messin around part you filter-render-cloud... thing is its not how you show it.i got a cs3 myself on this. how do you "choose" a color everytime you cloud it? ... i need to know really cause you got the best effects on flames...

  • you are right... if you selected the tool brush you will see cmyk colors or rgb colors at the right side... just choose a color there and cloud it.

i will ad this thanks for your comment. :)

  • dude! that was good! nice job there, i think this is the first vid i saw with some realistic fire, not crap-flames like other vids. NICE! xD

  • thanks ^^ yeah cause evrywhone knows how to make crappy flames ^^

  • i followed all the instruction and it came out pretty good, you just need to be a little clearer though on your instructions though, but everything worked out just fine :D

  • yeah but that was a hard time cause my photoshop is in netherlands.... i had to translate all of that and just some words i couldn't translate... and thanks :)

  • this sucks none of that works.

  • this is not basic and it all works i did it 5 times over... and it works whit other ppl to.. are you sure you did evrything right?

  • I didnt it all but u know whe u do the cloud filter part. Thats where mine fucks up. U said paint it colors, then part it again but filter it ever time. But when i filter the last color i put its that color and white in clouds.

  • did you do ctr+alt+u and made it grey?

  • like use tho to make it grey? or do tat when i paint?

  • to make it grey

  • ok im lost lol, but is wat im say is at like 0:51 you have many colors. When i do what you do. It makes it the cloud (white) and the color i used. Try it again, and the cloud and the color i used before it just puts it over the other.

  • (0:29 throw in all colors you whant make a real mess)

(after you are done go to filter then render and chose the first option clouds , do this a few times, but evrytime a different color)

(it would look like 0:47 if you are done)

(then press ctrl+alt+u you will get a screen whit 3 bars move the middle bar to the left to make it grey)

  • if you can not do this then go and practise first in photoshop... and don't rate my video bad if you can't do it.. i said its not basic and its photoshop cs3.. this tutorial works whit evry step like you see on the video...

if it doesn't work i couldn't make a video of it by myself and look to the video responses and comments , other people can do it....

    good luck :)

  • i didnt rate it bad i just said it was bad, but when you say throw in all the colors mine doesnt work like urs. I through in all the colors then did the color cloud color cloud thing, and all it does is the cloud thing and the color i just put in. It deletes the other colors.

  • yes thats why yuo have to do it serveral times whit different colors

  • you dont get it. Urs changes to all the colors when u do it mine doesnt.

  • i speeded it up

  • duur never u dont understand

  • no u dont understand you do something wrong

  • what hes trying to say is photoshop just resets the colors, but urs doesnt

  • then i have to know what photoshop he use and what the first option is in his photoshop.....

and your explenation is more clearly. thanks

  • Its probably cs4 like me cause mine does the same thing

  • the first option i mean is cloud , maybe there is a new option or this option just works differently :)

    and i said its cs3 ^^

  • i updated it... to change color you have to select the brush tool and change the color at the right side of your screen evry time you do clouds.

  • ok to get the things on the side the color thing how do i do this?

  • you already have it standart on your screen...

you know how to brush whit colors right?

its the same thing when selecting a color for your brush. you only have to select a different color. you dont have to paste it on your paper. then do the cloud one. and if you do it again select a different color again. i cant explain it more clearly then this. sorry if it doesnt work

  • i think this tutorial is great. i just wish you were talking in it cause its very difficult to read what your doing.

  • first i dont have a microfoon and second even if i have you will get crappy comments about your voice :) and thanks ^^

  • Hi, my photoshop is different, when you said "now go to filter-stylise and select the first option" what is the first option in your photoshop?? Thanks

  • mine is contrast line no problem if its the right translation i will change it.

  • Damn I can't get it to work with the color thing, All I get is some brownish mush, Can you please tell me at what position you're placing the colors?

  • you mean the color whit white- yellow- orange - brown - black? just keep replacing them but keep it white -yellow - orange - brown -black

    or begin whit black :)

  • Will do! Thanks :)

  • no problem

  • Incredible video! the fire I made turned out great!

  • wohoo!! thanks that your fire turned out great :)

  • i am humbled :O

  • thanks!

  • wow great video, I dont have photoshop but that looks so cool and awesome

  • thanks i mixed it whit a water tutorial and a smoke tutorial :P

  • well it looks great, and all your other drawings are freakin awesome

  • thanks ;)
