It looks like those amazing people in the video were having the time of their lives making this video. Can't blame them, either. Just look at that setting!
@radicalgarbage02 You have to look at the symbolizm, how the wardrobe changes in the song and when, etc to find meaning and through-line.
And not all art is "about being effective and clear'. Some art is created to make you think and work and use the art as a stimulus for critical thinking and reflection. This video could arguably fall into that category. Take a look at some installations ad interactive art, the point of that art is to give you a more visceral feeling, whatever that may be :)
@radicalgarbage02 I think the point of the video is to bring humanity to these people, since there are a lot of people, businesses and organizations who only see the disability and the fact that these people are different, and not the fact that they are still human and capable of advance thought, love and hurt. What makes it art is the use of colour, how the actors interact, costuming, cinematography and editing.
I wish I could be less ham-handed about this, but:
I love this song, but this video doesn't make any sense to me. Why is the video considered art? Is it because it's subjects are people usually hidden away from mainstream society?
That sounds gimmicky and pretentious to me. I'm pretty sure that this was cringe-worthy for many. Was that the intention? Isn't good art all about being effective and clear?
I'm just looking for a civil rebuttal... Can someone enlighten me?
i listen to this.. and feel like everyone can feel as i do.. and we all are one. .. sometimes... i wish this melody is the song of my life... i think it is... maybe if everyone heard this song at the same time all around the world, everyone will come at peace and something can change,, a good change.
i love it how all the best bands in the world are all from all the small little epic countries- its not really surprising though, has anyone ever seen iceland?
Similarly, other epic bands like royksopp from norway...
Unsurprising you would expect the most epic bands to come from epic places, with outstanding natural beauty.
The best part about this video is that they didn't cut down the song for the video. They ddid what some directors felt they couldn't do, whether its because of radio edit or for shortage of ides: used the whole thing.
I used to listen to this song all the time on my way to hockey games when I was 16. I remember the white mountains in the winter night, in slo mo. In the dressing room, from time to time, fellow teammates would pick up my earphones to check out what I was listening to. Of course they would scream WHAT THE HELL MAN or something, but in a good way. They were used to it. We'd been playing hockey together for half of our lives. Anyway, sigur ros was a part of my life for a year. ' was a good year.
Sigur Ros are definitely making the saddest music for me, making me wanna cry a river for no particular reason. And the videos have the same impact on me. Just beutiful. And unreally real.
beautiful song , i bought it in 1999 and only just rediscovered it in my collection and just put it on my mp3 player .
stunning track that makes me go all fuzzy wuzzy !
