  • This is where the Occupy Wall Street crowd got their ideas from!

  • i was raised with spankings and look at kids these days and how the dress and act like they own the world

  • That's how the parents in your generation thought of kids your age. This just means you're getting older.

  • Very cool..kinda choked up, reminded me of simpler, better times.

  • GO WHIP ON THAT BRATS ASS!!

    MAYBE THE BEST SHOW EVER!

  • GO WHIP ON THAT BRATS ASS!!

  • And Arnold gets taken to the woodshed; his dad needs to take him to Floyd's Barber Shop and get him a crew cut;

  • That was 5 and a half, but you did a really good job at knocking it down while retaining the point.

  • There's a difference between abuse and discipline. Beating your kids is one thing; spanking is another.

Without an explanation, a child will feel punished for no reason.

With only an explanation, they'll feel no need to change their behavior.

Discipline for its own sake will only make a kid bitter towards their authority, but when you discipline out of love--"Because I love you, I have to discipline you"--AND explain, you'll teach them that the action is wrong, and that there are consequences.

  • I think my parents were fair, but when it came time for that old fashioned whoopin, boy, I got my tail busted. I don't think it ever hurt me..I can remember going to school with marks on my legs, and not one teacher ever said a word. My daughter went to school with a bandaid on her leg, due to the cat scratching her, and she had three teachers question her about it. And she has never ever been spanked in her life. She is a good kid, but when I say no, it means no..end of story.

  • Future union member...

  • Take it from an old fart. Beating your kids does not help. Explanations do. You could have beaten the father and nothing would have changed. Explaining what happened, coupled to a live demonstation did. The kid is not different than the adults, just more focused; based on his limited view of the situation. There is a reason why he should not ride his bike on the street but no one bothered to explain it to him. All he got was "those are the rules" and "because I said so". Signed, a beatee

  • @JustaSmuck thats all he need. When i was young i questioned my parents and they were like "because i said so, that's all that matters". that boy was only ten. Now that im older my parents give me explanations and i understand. but there was a period when i get explanations but didnt care cause thats all they were. They never acted upon them. So i kept on repeating the mistakes and they wouldnt do anything. Later they resulted to punishing.

  • @JustaSmuck kids wont care if they just got explanations. Punishing them and sometimes spanking them shows the kid that there are consequences to wrongdoings. i was raised to not question authority. However, sometimes i still do, but keep them to myself unless they make sense and i can actually do something about it. That's rare though. PS im still a teen so ya

  • hahah i didnt even get paid for jobs around the house

  • Nice little edit! Thanks for posting it!

  • This is great. I can't find programming like this today.

  • Oh if only shows nowadays were like this....

  • @renno0301 Ain't that the truth. Today, you can't turn on the TV without seeing filth.

  • Still my favorite ep.

  • Holy crap! Ron Howards grandson, Theo looks so much like him! Thats a scary gene, that Howard gene! :P

  • That little brat deserved a spanking. He hurt his fathers feelings so badly. I could see the hurt in his eyes.

  • Today, instead of Opie Taylor, we have the Kardashians.

  • Comment removed

  • When I was a little boy, my dad roasted my bare butt, and I learned to behave him, or else because spankings really hurt. I learned my lessons, and if more kids today learned to behave, the world would be a better place with less little brats disrespecting their parents. For behaving like this kid, I would have gotten a real good spanking, and my bicycle thrown in the garbage.

  • @rich0319726 Could you imagine talking to an adult in the manner that some kids talk to adults today. I am grown, but the hairs on my neck stand straight up just thinking of what would happen if I acted like a brat. And that is the difference, we had that sense of fear.....healthy fear though!

  • @califgirl11 Exactly. I didn't fear my dad, I feared the consequences of bad behavior, the spanking itself. I loved my dad, even though the spankings stung a lot and I cried.

  • 45 years later, all of the kids in America are screaming brats while nice ones like Opie are all but extinct. We're paying a whole lot more than $129.99/month for Comcast services, because somewhere along the line our evolved way of doing things twisted our society into one that fosters stuck up morons and demotes family values.

  • I show this to my small group. Once they get beyond the black and white, they seem to enjoy it. They may miss some of the jokes real meaning, but the show has nice rhythm so young children find themselves laughing at the cadence alone. It is great for kids to see so later you just remind them of the Spoiled kid.

  • 25 cents a week?! Then a 2 cent increase?!

    Wow I would've started a union

  • I love the way that the mediocre charge is 'riding on the sidewalk'. I barely feel safe riding my bike on British Roads let alone American roads where the only rule of the road seems to be 'point the car'.

  • DO parents take the responsibility today like they did back then? He used the wood shed out back

  • ROFL! @ Opie's attempt to throw a tantrum.

  • 25 cents a week?? Kid makes more cash than I do.

  • don't you think he deserves a spanking? I'D RATHER NOT SAY....AFTER ALL, HE IS ONE OF MY OWN KIND! funny stuff

  • this is a classic episode! Great Post. I've been watching this for 40 years ( I can't believe it myself ) lol and its just as good today as it was then.

  • I'd love to see what Andy would do in that situation...

  • Opie is a mixture of great smarts and sad dumbness. I mean the way he figured out in an instant that two more cents a week comes to a dollar a year. That's impressive math skills! But the fact that he got excited about that, now that's just dumb.

  • I love Barney.

  • sam from lord of the rings??? lol

  • I don't care if I'm not allowed to ride my bike on the sidewalk. I'll do it anyway. Next, they'll tell you that you can't walk on the sidewalk!

  • "Gosh, you mastve been savin up for it since yous a kid" lol

  • they couldn't make a show like

    this anymore,because it

doesnt cater to the liberal media.

  • you're very right...they think spanking is abuse...tho sometimes people use it as abuse.....byt this has LOTS of clips taken out...i'd suggest you watch the whole vid

  • there's a real nice wood shed out back lol

  • excellent job taking out the filler and things that go over kids heads. 5 minutes ? Wow.

  • That's what we NEED in the America.

"GOOD OLD FASHION WOODSHEDS" and Less cops telling people how to and NOT to raise their kids!

These are the SAME kids that will grow-up Disrespecting Society bec. the police gave them the right to Disrespect their parents!

In 20 years they WILL realize that SPANKINGS HELPS a child to be Obedient, to Both the parents and the police!

The police don't want you spanking your own child but they are JUST FINE with one of their Own Tazing a Kindergartner!!!

    D.D.

  • Right on. Great episode!

  • Great episode! Yep, Good ole fasioned woodshed !! Us kids turned out just fine. Now it's illegeal to spank and look at the crime we have today .

  • great editing!

  • Is that other kid that isn't Ron Howard, is that Earl Holliman?

  • its ronnie dapo

  • no, because Ron Howard is in his 50's now and Earl Holliman, i think he's in his 80's

  • This was well edited. Except for 2 spots, it doesn't even look edited down.

  • Love the tantrum scene! LOL

Oh, heavens, we ever suggest hitting a kid might be in order! Surprised this show hasn't been banned because of this.

  • Wish we could have heard that brat getting his butt whooped out in the woodshed.

  • Dude. Andy sounds JUST LIKE my dad. It's so weird!

  • Cool, a whole episode in 5 min. now I have time to do some wash. Funny thing, when our society had more woodsheds, we had a lot less disciplinary problems. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

  • with shows like andy griffith the writing was simpler, it was more natural of what kids/people would say, now you see child actor at 3 saying things no 3 year old would say lol

  • Good old fashioned wood shed?

  • OUCH!!!

  • I liked Barney's line @ 1:09, "You not allowed to ride a bike on the sidewalk!" I like watching people get into trouble!

  • Still one of my favorite shows of all time the little shit pardon my French lol

  • Where is the one about when opie kills the bird

  • Doggone that kid; ain't supposed to ride a bike on the sidewalk! LOL

  • I think that is the dumbest rule we've come up with. Bikes SHOULD be on the sidewalk, better than meeting a car.

  • I ride mine on the sidewalk. Well, when I had a bike before some asshole stole it!

  • I loved Opie's line: "I don't wanna say. After all, he IS one of my own kind!" It's really funny because it's so natural and innocent, like any one of us would have said. :D

  • I thought this was one the best episodes. That brat deserved a spanking and Andy pulled that parent's ass up out of his head. If that kid was not disciplined (continued living in fantasy world) he would be serving time in jail and doing community service for the next 30+ years.

I wonder if that brat was Rosemary's Baby?

  • The BEST episode!!! Right now in the year 2008, there are alot of KIDS and PARENTS that need to be taken out to the wood shed.

When ADULTS stick together, CHILDREN can't get away with so much. But as you can see in today's society, the kids are doing what the hell they want. That's why we have more kids carrying cell phones to school and no book bags!

When used properly, there's nothing wrong with spanking. If you don't think so, look at this video AGAIN!!

    Peace,

    B.P. 5/28/08

  • @bcperry1962 I am a little late to this video - I AGREE WITH YOU 100000%

  • @bcperry1962 Do you really think most criminals today had it easy when they were kids. If you abuse your kids, they're most likely going to be power hungry when they get older. And THAT'S what makes criminals. Most parents abuse their kids because they're power hungry. And they're power hungry most likely because they were abused. We should do what's morally right instead of what's been done in past generations. And if ANYONE thinks abuse will make kids behave, GET OUT THE SHOVEL!

  • @thedonofnapoli I think you have ABUSE confused with Spanking. I stand behind what I said and will not change my thoughts about SPANKING a child when it's needed. And if you really wanna get down to it....not teaching your child the rights and wrongs can lead them to being criminals, because the parents are too busy trying to be their friend and won't say "NO"! AND if ANYONE thinks that letting them get away and no discipline works....GET OUT THE SHOVEL!!

  • @bcperry1962 You were obviously not talking about 8 or 9 year olds in your first comment. You were talking about teenagers. They're the ones "carrying cell phones to school and no book bags". And everyone knows you can't spank a teenager (unless you're very forceful). That's when abuse comes into the picture, physical and mental. If you want someone to turn out nice, you have to teach them with WORDS while they're little, instead of abusing them when they're older.

  • @thedonofnapoli You might have a point, if we we're talking about ABUSE!! But we're not. If you were abused..I'm sorry that happened to you. But if you got a spanking because you needed it...hats off to the person who was trying to correct a problem.

  • @bcperry1962 i agree. but the problem is the stupid parents themselves. when i was a kid, if i was called out my someone and my parents found out, it was curtains, especially if it embarrassed my dad. not a beating but some sort of punishment. now the dummy parents take the kids side and then sue on top of that. then we end up paying for the scumbags in correctional centers for the rest of their lives and our lives.... wouldn't want to hurt the poor kids feelings now... andy rules!

  • @bcperry1962 Lmao. Backpacks are still implemented here in 2010, sir. And if there's usually any acting up from a child in today's society, it's mostly due to negligence. I don't advocate spanking, but I do enforce speaking with a child before any further action is taken so as to avoid any physical punishment and future repercussions the child may retain. In my opinion, a good talking to and explanation why something is deemed "wrong" by society is the first step to conflict avoidance.

  • aww u left out the funniest part

when Barny gets on the kids bike and starts riding, and andy holds the back wheel so he cant move, then when andy looks away barny rides away.

  • the devil comes to mayberry.

  • the shed's look pretty sexy

  • any chance of uploading any new ones?

  • My favorite episode ever. I wish more parents were like Andy.

  • This is a classic, thanks for posting it!
