  • WOW; he Joe Walsh'd it!! :-)

  • Not bad at all..This was dedicated to Mick Jagger and his (then) "bird" Marianne Faithfull.

  • the only amazing thing is that George, Paul and John created this fantastic song and the guitar lick !

  • Horrible tribute band, George plays a Epiphone Casino on the recording, and hes not even playing the part right. John Lennon has a capo on the 2nd fret, and the singing is poor. If I had 3 people that could play the parts I could do a better job and I started playing guitar in April. The reason The Beatles did not play it live is because Paul played Bass and Guitar, which he cant do at the same time live.

  • The guitar parts are not hard to play. George and Paul are playing lead, John playing rhythm in the key of E with a capo on the 2nd fret. To learn how to play over 70 songs note for note go to The Beatles To a Tee's website.

  • @CoIeStones That lead in harmony...live...not hard to play? Post a video with you doing it then.

  • @beatledude Like I said before go on The Beatles To A Tee and watch the demo clip of the song.

  • @CoIeStones Trust me ...one guy playing that solo in harmony is not easy...and I don't need to look it up, I know how to play it

  • "The signature dual-harmony electric lead guitar parts were played live (without overdubbing) by Harrison and McCartney. Lennon played the rhythm in the "D major" position with the capo on the 2nd fret (to account for the song being in the key of E." This was from the site "Song Facts. I checked the Beatles "Recording Sessions" and it is not mentioned who played it but I always felt it was two guitars.

  • Caveman - you're looking at it subjectively, as I did for a long time but face the facts:

    1) This is done live - one straight shot...

    2) The original had 2 players on 2 guitars playing 2 parts - NOT 1 person playing both parts together.

    3) Tom Work has been playing since 1961 and is 60+ - George Harrison was 23 and Paul McCartney was 24. Everyone knows there is a world of difference in finger dexterity between a 20-something and 60-something player.

  • @FloridaWing1 Your fact's are correct. George did double track the origonal with a two part harmony. But that is the way George wrote the part and wanted to play it. Yes Tom played it excellently, live, with no dubbing or double tracking,as on the record, extremely difficult. But George wanted to play it that way,(dubbed, with two guitars, playing both part's)and could have played it the way Tom did if he wanted to.But you have a valid point, i.e. Tom did it live, one straight shot.

  • Excellent guitar playing by the fellow emulating George.

  • Hey Gang: This IS tought playing and for the cat to do BOTH parts by himself LIVE is awesome work. It does sound like it was a dou/harmony part done by Geoge & Paul in the studio. There's a couple of note bends that were done by two (2) people on the original. But WOW this cat did his homework!

  • that right there is some mighty fine picking.

  • WHO'S THE ELDERLY GENTLEMAN SITING ON THE STAGE TO THE RIGHT OF JOHN ? IS THAT RINGO'S GRANDFATHER ?

  • Tienes razon. El original es con 2 guitarras perfectamente coordinadas. Pero mis respetos para este guitarrista.

  • RIP, Gary.

  • Wow! my respect for the Guitar Player, I know it is very difficult what he does, the kind of ultra quick multiple faultless finger repositioning you only see on few classic guitar players

  • If this concert would be released on DVD I would be pleased to purchase a copy. Let me know. Thanks.

  • @ricky4001cs I have no idea why this HD recorded concert wasn't released - it's probably one of the best done ones I've seen on youtube. If I ever find a copy I'll be sure to post some info on this video.

  • Hey 50 year old George Dude!!!! That was BETTER than George could do it!! I Was In my 20's when I Saw them do this,Now I Am in my 40's and that is STILL impresses the hEll Out of me!! All I could ever do is the intro. If You do not play Guitar you can not fully appreciate the Talent involved.

  • Comment removed

  • @SmokeBojangles Nobody did it better than George. Besides, he wrote the part. I play drums and fully appreciate the talent involved.

  • I saw these guys free at college back in 1998. Great then, great now!

  • The original was done with great care and two tracks of guitars played in harmony. This performance is awesome. The reviewer who said people who don't play guitar can't appreciate how difficult this is to play. He is 100% correct.

  • @Rickholly74 I don't play guitar, I play drums and am quite aware how difficult the guitar part is. Thank You.

  • @Rickholly74 I play drums and fully appreciate how difficult George's guitar part is to play.

  • you guys rock..........

  • shite

  • Decent, but please do both guitar parts...

  • @ThatOneMusicGuy789 They did do both guitar parts. Tom, "George," did both guitar parts on one guitar.

  • @conicteamtv I realize this, but it's not possible to be a great tribute band unless you're totally accuarte, and as far as I know it's very difficult to play accurate parallel third notes going as fast as the studio version.

Plus, It doesn't give that great of a sound. I had to record two tracks-- with two different guitars- when I did this song to get a nice tone.

I guess though it's still pretty good, I was just saying.

  • @ThatOneMusicGuy789 That's untrue - it would difficult for 4 people to "accurately" recreate a song in a live performance when original recording was multi-tracked and McCartney (and others too possibly) played two parts...

  • @FloridaWing1 It could be done.

Simply before the show record a loop of the rhythm, or have a pre-recorded track.

In my opinion, this is a great tribute band, but why would they do this song?

  • @ThatOneMusicGuy789 Hey man, they are a great Tribute Band. True the studio version had a two part lead guitar harmony, but the guy doing George's lead part did a great job, playing only one guitar and comming real close to the record.

  • @caveman735 I never said they weren't. They're a great tribute band, this is just a very tricky song to do as a a tribute band.

  • I think George's guitar playing is better, but it isn't wrong, they are similar to the original members.

  • The best song of all time!

  • Excellent!George’s guitar.

  • I saw them Memorial Day weekend in Louisville, KY at Abbey Road On the River. The new Paul (a true lefty) is great!

  • @njriley55 gary tought himself to be a lefty

  • @MrKite1996 I know! Gary was great! RIP

  • @njriley55 you know your great when your there from the beggining i bet he planed to retire fucking brain cancer

  • I think these guy's are really good! 1 question why does 'John' look like he's in pain when he sings?

  • Try to sing that loud and play guitar at the same time. I do it a lot. It's very hard work. Like prizefighting.

  • I saw "1964" on March 12th this year and during the break between sets was able to take a lot of photos of the stage and their gear. As anyone noted that Tom Work has taped over the fret markers on his Gretsch? I have a good close-up photo of the guitar with the tape on the neck. Wonder why...

  • I was ALWAYS impressed with how well Tom Work plays the solo bits in this song. Jimmy Pou was good, but Tom perfected it. He is so smooth. When I asked him about it he indicated to me that "you have go more on how it sounds than playing it technically correct". So in essence he sacrifices a little accuracy for smoothness of sound. He has played it for me slowly and I can see where he makes a few changes. But nonetheless, HE is fantastic on this song.

  • So sad that Gary Grimes (Paul) has passed away. Does anyone know if they will go on with a replacement?

  • @njriley55 yes they are still playing. their web site is 1964 the tribute dot com.

  • OK - George played most likely with Paul. Regardless, it isn't the most easily played intro. I wouldn't be surprised that individual players remembered each session they recorded, especially since so many 'takes' may have been done and the best one selected for mastering.

Nowadays it's nearly impossible to determine who actually played what part due to the multi-layering or number of channels used.

  • Great guitar solo - non-players don't know how difficult that is. (In fact, he played it better than Harrison on the original.)

  • @floridawing According to the book "Beatlesongs" by William J. Dowlding, George said he played the lead with Paul or John. Mark Lewisohn in "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions" does not mention who played it. Lewisohn has been quoted by various sources as saying this after listening to original recordings, "Based on the pre and post song chatter, it was George and Paul playing lead guitar on And Your Bird Can Sing."

  • @Lancefrei Paul was the one that played the solo with George.

  • @Lancefrei George and Paul played lead, George played the solo, and John played rhythm with a capo on the 2nd fret putting the song in the key of E. Orginally John had it in the key of D but like alot of other John Lennon song's he prefers to sing in the key of E.

  • @CoIeStones Where did you get that info? I'd like to know. I think George double tracked it on the record. Paul did not play any (lead) on it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @Lancefrei I am sure that is Jimmy Pou playing lead guitar on And Your Bird Can Sing. You can even hear Mark Benson refer to him as Georgey Pou at the Intruduction. Thanks for the Post.

  • @ShaggyBoy31 It's Tom. Mark says "Next off we'd like to feature our guitarist playing 147 guitar parts all at the same time with his clothes on frontwards." I shot this video.

  • @Lancefrei Listen to the very start again and let me know what You think. Thanks

  • @ShaggyBoy31 I listened to it again on the isolated mic track of Mark Benson, who plays John. (I have a four-channel audio version of this concert). It's even clearer on that separated track, and Mark says exactly what I posted in reply to your speculation that Jimmy Pou was playing that night. I was there; Tom was playing the role of George that night. Go to 1964 The Tribute's website and take a look at some pictures of Tom... compare them to the guy in this video.

  • @floridawing

I agree great playing and very difficult but not better than George's playing

  • @OldDogDays George couldn't play this, he had to play both parts separate in the studio.

This guy played them both at the same time, live.

  • @lazrpo It's not that he couldn't play it this way it's that it sounds better doubled. The way this guy plays it sounds good but you can here each stop as he changes fret position. That's not the way the original sounds. Also to put to rest who played this, it was Paul and George playing. This was verified by George when asked by Neil Young in the early '70's

  • @floridawing : I totally disagree wid U .... George's solo in da song was excellent and very impressive..... I dnt disagree dat dis 1 is not good ... but mind it dis is no way upto da mark as it is in da original track ....... ... George was always da greatest and best !!!!

  • @floridawing : Checkout dis video ..... its much better dan dis 1 ...

    youtube.com/watch?v=Yac-HAhbdww&feature=related

  • @floridawing you got that right----that song's riff's by George are hard because it involves playing 2 notes at the same time in a descending and ascending parttern.

  • @floridawing - YEAH RIGHT !

  • @floridawing I'm a drummer, not a gutar player, and I know how difficult the lead guitar part is to play! Don't tell me what I do and don't know!

  • @caveman735 Relax, caveman...you're far too serious over this! I don't play drums but I know it's a skill I don't have - I don't think I ever accused you of not knowing anything...

  • @FloridaWing1 You are right, I should lighten up. It's all good man, cool with me. Thanks.

  • @floridawing NO he did not play it better than George did. Nobody did.

  • @caveman735 OK - HE DIDN'T play it better than George - but George was only playing 1/2 of the lead guitar line...McCartney had the other 1/2.

  • @FloridaWing1 I think George played both part's, double tracked. Not positive though.

  • @FloridaWing1 I think George played both tracks on the record. Not positive though.

  • @floridawing You're right. I should lighten up. Sorry for being so uptight. As far as I'm concerned, it's all good' cool man. I dig where you are comming from. Thank's.

  • Umm,.. sweet ..

  • Tom NAILED It! All they need now are two Casinos.
