I like "Rio," and I like this and the album it came from. Which simply means, great talent resides in Simon and Rhodes. Not that it was missing from the others, of course, but that these two could continue while the others, well, disappeared. Great change in direction while maintaining skill and "genius" for songwriting.
@kingmob1972 thats wat i am wondering. everything from Liberty to Pop Trash. I am still waiting. u posted this 11 months ago and still no release or news of a release.
55 year old straight man :) I love this stuff. The original lineup was so creative and wonderful. The Warren years were just as creative and wonderful in a different, edgier, way. I loved all of it. The reunion (with "Astronaut") was lousy, dead, thin, very disappointing. I lost interest after that.
Also, I was a child Durannie in the 80`s (8years old in 82!) and I get incredibly frustrated by a lot of fans rejection of these albums, they all just wanna hear Rio over and over again and wont consider anything else! All I can say is its their loss!!!!!!!
It's interesting as I was the same age as you in 1982 and I grew up on Duran from my older sister. She lost interest in the music they were making by 1986 and I stuck with them and LOVE pretty much all the stuff they have done. Yes, the first 2 albums are their BEST... BUT albums like Big Thing and Medazzaland are just as STUNNING!
I loved RCM too, but I think DD showed with albums like Pop Trash and Medazzaland that they`re at their best when the ideas and creativity is just from them. They were hanging on by a thread in those days lets face it, and I`m so proud of them for producing these stunning albums. Ok Warrens gone but even now, if they`re left to their own devices they will still produce some incredible music, they dont need big name producers, these albums prove that.
warren had a signature sound, but it ultimately played a big part in the band's downward spiral. Wedding Album was different to get people to listen, after Warren got really experimental it really did some damage. (thus medazzaland) I will say that he redeemed himself a bit with Pop Trash. one of DD's BEST albums. EVER.
Agree, I can't believe most of D2 Fans couldn't appreciate Warren, well who's to blame : most of DD fans are girls growing in the 80s :) , I miss Warren, the sound of his guitars are fantastic, Medazzalan is a very very good album
I so miss this line up!!! I like all DD's albums to death!!!Nevertheless, going with Timberlake was the foolish move that the band could have ever done!!. DD's has forgotten that out there are some fans of theirs that actually like serious music. No wonder why Andy left the band for the 2nd time. As a fan of serious music and DD, Red capet massacre sucks to bits. Why did you have to go for a stupid reunion when everything was going so well. I miss U Warren!!
Andy left due to tension between the other band member and hated the aparent competition between them (or so his biography says).
RCM went into production long after Andy left, before that, they had a Album called ''Reportage'' which was never released and was replaced by Red Carpet Massacre. The sound they had on RCM wasn't a Duran sound but you gotta give them credit for trying new things.
this is a ridiculous comment. First of all. Timberlake didn't produce most of RCM. It was Timbaland. secondly Duran Duran did nothing out of the ordinary for them. They saw what was popular and went in that direction. They are one of the best bands at reinventing themselves and their music. I thought it was a brave attempt and I think its a great album albeit without that classic DD sound, but I believe it was a great effort.
Duran Duranはこの時期が最高に好き。

I like this and always did. Better than the re-make, re-grouping. Ugh. The original lineup was good then, not now. No magic. This is magic.

Everyone should sign a letter and send it to the group to get warren back in the group.

I agree. It was nice to have the Fab Five back together, but once Andy left, Warren should come back and stay for good.

@Morrizzex I totally agree. Its a shame because Astronaut was such a great album ! Modern sounding but still very Duran Duran-ish.
But I have the feeling that this band is being boycotted by MTV. Can't figure out why.
Keybern 1 year ago
@Keybern Quick questions... what does MTV stand for and what shit do they boradcast nowadays?
nljuggalo 5 months ago
@Morrizzex Pop Trash wasn't "well" and "Red capet massacre" was serious as mucgh as DD could be. Also, Andy is a crybaby anyhow.
