  • I played reggae with members of the Wailers, Itals, Culture, and a few other big Jamaican reggae musicians.. I played as a bassist with them, and I can say that this beat is nowhere near as bad as all of these LOSERS are trying to act like.. It had some good ideas, and a few groovin moments, If you worked on it for as month, you would probably be all set. Youtube is full of idiots that love to hate on people who are doing things with their lives.

  • @gleventhal Who is this Rohan Reid ?

  • Wow, why are so many people disliking this?? It's pretty good, just he gets a bit out of time.

  • :D lol nice drumming wow amazing, best drummer ever:D

  • very bad stop drumming.

  • NÃO SABE NADA DE REGGAE!! NÃO CONHEÇE A BATIDA ONE DROP!!

DO NOT KNOW NOTHING OF REGGAE! NO ONE KNOWS THE BEAT DROP!

  • I don't understand why people thiunk this is bad? nice groove dude.

  • @Turtlesrossum It's out of time. The stop-start bits don't pick up the pulse in the right place and that big bass drum hit is way off, in an annoying way. First thing to learn is keeping the pulse, and then when it's solid you learn how to play around it. Trying to get clever before you've got the essentials down never ends well.

  • cool but you can try by muting the sound and puting a black lid on the camera

  • with the newjack swing come'n at ya....you suck. {;^~

  • Fine, just keep the beat man

  • What these idiots are trying to say is that it's a good beat but no quite a reggae beat.

  • this vid is 4 years old now but i just wanna leave my mark. practice and build your array of beats. listen to soja, bob marley, steel pulse. and learn the beats. learn them nice and slow (you and me and rasta courage by soja). then build your feel (one drop and black survivor by bob marley) then have fun (steppin out and life without music by steel pulse) then expand your range. Im not that great at drums, but Im a gigging musician and I practice by listening to songs and build my bank of beats.

  • you suck dude learn dude its eight notes and you need the bass and snares off

  • If you like reggae, reggaeton, or dancehall music, "reggaelinx website"is an awesome site for you.

  • I want back my 27 seconds!! ...

  • .. where is the beat drumm? ..

  • that was bullshit.

  • hmm U Should practise a lil´ more reggae

  • dont make me loose my time stupid

  • hahaha , what a joke

  • this is possibly the best video in existence

  • This is painful to hear...go to vicfirth.com to get better ideas.

  • In reggae, the 3 is the downbeat(conversely from Rock with 2 and 4 being accented) with the occasional 1 being punctuated(like in the beginning of the phrase and every 8 or 16 bars)~ Once you have a firm grasp on where the 1 and 3 are(the 3 is played with a sidestick on the snare drum AND a bass drum note at the same time), then you can layer in other rhythms and fills. Kep jommin mon...

  • @drumjedi Theres alot of reggae where the 1 is never punctuatet! :))

  • before tryin' to play complicated, learn how to play a tight simple groove and hold it down for a minute or two.

  • maybe ska, maybe some sort of latin jazz, but to improvisational to say it's reggae, seems like a long breakdown, not a place to drop that first verse

  • The worst part is from 0:00 to 0:27!

  • work on right hand..

  • If u use the butt of the stick more to the mid of the edge u get a much better sound and please turn the snare on. just sayn..

  • Add the bass drum w your rim click ,but over all listen to reggae more and it will come.

  • well i liked it

  • You can tell hes white.

  • @simonmon667 yea by his skin

  • @mcloven13 record ur farts then asshole

  • @BrapaneseCrazymanlovinGuy iiiii think you probably should rephrase thatttttttttttt

  • I loove it when people embarass themselves to oblivion on youtube :'D

  • The people commenting are for the most part, fools. This is basically one version of the one-drop reggae beat. The kick usually lands with the cross stick on the snare, and you are varying the hi-hat pattern a little too much, but it's a good start. Don't know why people were being so nasty. I have played with reggae musicians, including the drummer from the wailers, and people did not have right to be so negative.

  • 96 thousabd views for this BULL????? mxm... Man im being honest man. NONSENSE TO HIGHEST DEGREE

  • where is the kick ? pretty essential in reggae in my opinion...

  • this is almost exactly like "roots rock reggae" by bob marley...

  • Practice dud!

  • Learn.Before.Posting.

  • no mates el ritmo man,, practica mas y despues subes videos,.

    bless

  • what a fail

  • was für ein scheiß der kann ja nix.

    Erst lernen DANN spielen!!!

  • Yeah prolly should practice it more before posting it, nice effort though

  • drumming fail

  • what the fuck...at least learn to play it first...before trying to teach others

  • c'est pas trop du reggae, et ta batterie tu devrai la reglée ! ;)

  • eso como reggae.. pero bastante distorsionado.. rescato lo bueno.. buena tecnica en Right hand!.. wena wena!.. ;)

  • Intro is good but is cheat!

  • NOT reggae lol

  • a bit jazzy with the hi hat there... good though

  • just a hi hat solo

  • MAN it's insulting to us real drummers to have this guy demonstrating anything

  • what are you doing that hes not that makes YOU a REAL drummer? you dont gotta earn any credits or take a test you ignorant cunt. Its people like YOU that insult the real drummers. You gotta start somewhere

  • shit was so weak

  • WTF? you are misinformed. that is not reggae.

  • non sei capace vero???

  • intro is dope work on your rhythm tho

  • falta muxo para ser un batero reggae !!!!!

  • NICE!

If you post what you´re playing you have attitude and confidence!

and these haters criticizing don´t have attitude at all!

so follow your way to the success and jump over the haters!

  • fly to jamaica

    AND LEARN SOMETHING

  • POST SOMETHING!

  • Either hang with the brothers or get some soul. Maybe both.

    Peace.

  • practice more dude

  • play outside you head, u might have the idea but you gotta send it out....see....i'm writting and you are reading and you are thinking about it cause you understand ....there is no gibberish here. hope man.

  • There are so many haters out there, and although what you are playing is very basic in terms of reggae drumming, there are elements of it in there. KEEP DRUMMING, and if you love reggae, keep working it out by studying the riddims. Everyone starts somewhere.

  • Man it's just cus you can't hear the bass, if you could hear the bass and then put some fat bassline over it it would sound sweet!

  • nah bruh... this ain't it

  • im a reggaedrummer.. and this? aint no reggae mymang

  • There is no one way of playing reggae. Listen to some reggae bands, folks, and you'll notice that almost every drummer has his own style of playing. This beat you're playing here will work just fine, even though it sounds more like Elvis Costello & The Attractions than Bob Marley & The Wailers - not that there's anything wrong with that!

  • your understanding is way off. this is no bueno. dont disrespect reggae drummers.

  • "According to my understanding~this is basic reggae beat~"

    Your understanding is wrong.

  • sai dai pp !!!!

  • u suck ass yo dont do this again

  • cool snare... hit the kick with the click on the 3rd

  • cuek!!

  • C NUL

  • what is cool here is, that the snare is unstressed

  • And try to do the rim click in the center of the snare.

Oh, and do it slower, with metronome.

  • No, a basic reggae beat is drum and rim click (snare) in the 1 and 3 and closed hi-hat in the 2 and 4.

    What you're doing is a pseudo-improvisation.

  • eh..not so good

  • try getting the single tap in "one drop" before moving on to compound rhythms like the one you tried to play.

  • i want to skull fuck your mother for payback because of that... 20 seconds of hell..... ill fuck her gaping asshole as retribution

  • bmack20034738: Quit posting from your prison cell and keep the asshole fucking to you and your cellmate bitch.

  • @DoubledUpIrish Hey man, keep your comments to yourself, and stop all the cursin. Why don't you make a video yourself and lets see what you got.Its guys like you that make it bad for everybody else.

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Fuck... Are you a drummer? Where is straight rythm?! .. and bass drum(!?)

  • That was not very good. As they say "feel it in the one drop"! great and true words. DO IT

  • horrible u r simply the biggest cunt on utube please stop ahead b4 u do summin more embaarissing u absolute village!

  • wembleyhed1: Go give some more head you fuck.

While your at it learn how to fucking spell you village cocksucker.

  • dude,... the playin is cool.. yea. it really sounds reggae... and, i think, you should give some bass drums too, then its perfect... all the best dude,.. keep on the jammin high...

  • That was pooo man, wasnt even reggae, I need to show u how it's done

  • Fuck dude, that sucked!!! I don´t think u got an idea of what reggae sounds like..

  • ma è il reggae che vuoi suonare?..non sembra....tin da camnà wagliò...roots,

  • ...not quite =(

  • fuck dude, listen some of reggae.. Shit you're an asshole in the drum man... Listen bob marley, peter tosh, augustus pablo, barrington levy...

  • u suck...

  • I need new heads for my drum set, but do not know what sound I require.

Please reply to me about good reggae drum heads =)

  • my balls this is the reggae drum beat. my farts lay out better beats than that

  • no joke

  • @mcloven13 lmao

  • @mcloven13 ha ha ha lol

  • ok this rly sucks, like sry but my ears are bleeding... if you wana hear some really good watch gil sharones video its the shit

  • usee de bomboo!

  • Not bad dude, pretty good.

  • yea i agree with everyone....sucked

  • well, your hatwork's definitely not basic, haha. i heard carly barrett play simpler hats on some marley songs. slow it down first man, coz reggae's more about feeling than rudiments. you can be slow and still sound mighty with the right groove. keep at it and you'll be better than any of these rasta hypocrites putting you down.

  • ... If you want to catch the Reggaemilitis, you have to serve in the 'asylum' of those who are infested with it. Or at least, listen it to death. Then you resurrect with it.

  • The reggae instinct is an inborn virus called 'Reggaemilitis'

  • definitely not bad

  • terrible.

  • good job dude.

  • fucking horrible

  • wow why is everyone hating so much on this guy? i was reading the comments while waiting for the video to load and i thought it was going to be horrible but it wasnt at all. dude seriously the messed up comments on this video dont reflect your playing keep it up

  • Hey man, dont listen to them. Keep Playing itle sound better.

    -Wil

  • this is shit

  • u suck g!! hahahahaaaaaaa what tha fuck!!

  • this is awful mannnn why would you put this upppp?

  • LMAO

  • you have pretty good improvisation, but you start to lag in tempo;falling behind, use a metronome for practice. You need to put in your bass drum, it falls on the same time as your rim shot(2 and 4), but actually try with just the bass on the 2 and 4, and then accent around it using the rim shot and snare etc. You can develope a much more dynamic rhythm that way. Watch Stewart Copeland, he's pretty incredible at this.

  • well i dont know a whole lot about reggae drumming but i liked it, nice one man

  • some real reggae feelings here

    big up!

  • nah man learn a one drop beat first.

  • suck my balls , !! you really suck bro !!!

  • USE A METRONOME PLEASE

  • Reggae style ????????

  • reggae is another thing man.....no way.

go to jamaica and loock some drummers man.....

    my god.....terrible

  • u need some serious practise...need more 'drop'

  • dude i think ur hi-hat work is pretty good man

they use alot of that in reggae so i duno wat "littlepheonix1115" was on about.

but he and "wacatak" r tru in sayin that u need more groove.

*"one-drop" beat= the rim and kick are dropped at the same time- on 3.

    or

*"steppers rhythm"= the kick is dropped on every beat and everythin else is the same as one-drop.

ur hi-hats r pretty good man jst work on the rest, then get it all nice n tight

    dont forget the GROOVE!

    feel it out!

    peace

  • nah man broda dat aint how you play reggae at all take it from me i am a female drummer plus i from the islands so u playin it all wrong

  • bad, very bad

  • this is reggae accourding to like hootie and the blow fish or dave Mathews band . think roots brother(peter tosh , jimmy cliff, jacob miller, 'the full can never be told'}

  • OH!!!!reggae is 2&4 man!!!oh!!!

hit hat......godd vibes of reunion island!

  • dont try to play the busy broken up triplets on teh hats...

    quarternotes on teh hat...

    accent 2 and 4...

drop the rim click and bass hit on 3...

its simple and learn how to make it grove... then throw in the other stuff...

  • absolutely......if you can't groove everything else goes out the door. Never loose the groove.....always play the pocket!! Groove is god

  • WOW THAT SUCKS!!!

  • i love all of you

  • bad as in not good

  • WAT WAS DAT

  • kicks on 2 and 4

  • just try loosening up a bit and play the kick on beat 3 with the snare clicks

  • who gives a fuck if u never play reggae we don't give a shit

  • You are an Ignorant bastard

  • no ur comment had nothing to do with this video so im not an ingnorant bastard ur just dumb for leavin that comment so fuck u

  • try to progress, if you want to play one drop and rockers refer to sly dunbar !!!

  • your drums sound just plain awful.. those heads look like shit.. go get some real heads like some g2's or emperors or somethin man really

  • sorry very stiff...not grooving....but i guess thatll do

  • Who are you listening to as your inspiration and influence? Not to dis, but you need to listen to certain drummers to fully understand the music and what you need to be doing. 2 examples of very different, but rock solid drummers are Carlton Barrett (Bob Marley & the Wailers) and Style Scott (Roots Radics). They are 2 of, if not the 2 baddest reggae drummers ever for their personal & intricate styles. You won't be disappointed.

  • ENOUGH of that triplet crap in the hi hat. That's not "basic" reggae. Basic reggae is simple and rocks hard.

  • I was waiting on the bass drum...... and waiting. ONE DROP MY SON. There's a reason why it's called that. Go do your homework.......

  • great vid nice soundin set.

    but 2 words...one drop...

    it'll help a lot

  • I agree, WHERE IS THE KICK DRUM on the drop??

  • this was a real reggae beat. you got the hi hat correct and the snare, you don't always have to do the crossed thingy but work on the bass and listen to some reggae music.

  • NICE DRUMSET!!!

  • dude you need to study more real reggae. one drop it. learn reggae fills also.

  • work on that and bass drum on every "snare" strike. i dont count so... yeah...

  • keep working at it!

  • ok!but you have to add the bass drum...
