Does Sephiroth block weird or does the pink slidey-thing just do hueg block damage?

It doesn't normally do that much block damage but since this Sephiroth so badly coded that even when he is editted he's still flawed (also he has 70 Defense but somehow he barely takes damage from some attacks and takes a lot more from others)

But I've been starting to become more confident in my abilities as far as actually playing as characters is concerned, and have recently taken up various old-school chars (Tin's Big Bear, Rin&Bat's FF1/SF2 ones, Adamskie's FHD ones, Tokinokuni-Kei's Makoto Mizoguchi and Masa's SF2/SF1 ones, to be exact, so far).
