You must have forgot or not known about the Marines stationed in 29Palms CA. They carry out more Desert Warfare training than any other group in the world. If you don't believe me look it up. But, yes, the Legion is very good in the desert. I wish I could have did some training with these guys when I was in. I guess I'll get my wish since I'm joining in February 2012!

I'm from america and some americans are ignorant through history.The foreign legion fought all through World War 2 under charles de gualle, and they fought through alot of wars with limited supplys. Plus there not known for winning wars and battle,but for courage and suicide missions dumb dumb.

You can enlist in Paris or in Aubagne, nearby Marseilles. travel there at your own expenses Don't be sure you'll get accepted. the Legion is very choosy on who they take in.
You will need to be really really motivated because before becoming a Legionnaire, you'll go through hell..

There are 2 kind of laser surgeries, and only one is allowed.. Where they do this with scratches its not allowed, something to do with pressure. Altough they can decline you for the other, better to check for this in the recruitement centre. But there are also ballistic protection glasses you can use with glasses on your eye strength.

yes,there is a dioptric laser correction....it just involves 15 minutes in front of the laser,and your eyes are perfect.....its not cheep,but is efective.....so u say the laser correction is tolerated???

In my opinion, I don't really know. Each country has there own elite brigade. For me from personal experience it would be the south Korean special forces. These guys would chew up any other force of similar size up! Vive le France! Vive la Guerre

@HuasoPodrido THe conditions in which the French army (not just the Legion, which is let me remind you 25% French in its troops and 90% French in its officers) fought in Indochina were probably the most horrible a soldier could find himself confronted to, I don't think the US did much better. In Algeria, re-read your history books (even go on Wikipedia) and find that the French Army had won that war. They were robbed of the victory when De Gaulle nevertheless proclaimed Algeria's independance.

There is no other word to express it"; Rudyard Kipling: "Their business is war, and they do their business.") the French fought, won on their land losing 6 million men. In WWII the Brits, with all the respect I have for their army, would not have survived much longer had the Channel not been there and Hitler not continued his invasion (instead he paused after Dunkerque).

@HuasoPodrido Finally, France during the Napoleonic war has taught how courage and honnour could be achieved on a battlefield without losing efficiency; for more than 20 years (1792-1815) France, with Napoleon at its head and these Frenchmen as the body, taught all European nations how to fight, so much so that they were reputed invincible.
This sort of amateur 'nouveau riche' style of proclaiming that France never won a war has no basis and is, flatly, innaccurate.

I was just responding to some airhead insulting my uniform and country. If I was a younger man I might have joined the FFL. I know a good combat outfit from a bad one.
