One thing I didn't like about Crystal Bearers is that it lacked a lot of the stuff that defines Final Fantasy like magic / abilities, leveling up, weapons, bosses (as there's only like 2 of them in the game), summons and a multi-man party

final fantasy I-X. that was it. everything else after has the name on it just for the sake of sales. i miss sakaguchi and squaresoft :(

I guess you were disappointed by the lack of classic themes in FFXIII...

I think you kinda missed an immersive game world out. Final Fantasy has always been about immersion for me, feeling like I'm in another world.

Final Fantasy XIII failed in that regard, and FFXII failed in the story regard.
