I don't know if I would count the D.C. Sniper as a domestic terror case. It wasn't a real case of terrorism, it was more of a serial killer, though he wasn't really a serial killer because he was doing it for a specific reason; he was trying to accomplish something through the murders. The guy was doing it to throw the police off his case for a murder he commited.
the whole thing might have had people scared but it wasn't terrorism.

Bush was on vacation more than any other president leading up to 9/11.
For Bush's last year, his explanation for everything was...the next president has to deal with it. Obama has been working his arse off compared to Bush and you GIVE BUSH A PASS ON 9/11?

It is really just semantics but I think the word terrorist gets thrown around haphazardly sometimes. Often as mere slander when someone doesn't like someone else, like the way people used the word "communist" to attack the reputation of their enemies in the 50s, regardless of whether or not they fit the definition of the word.
Of course, I am not trying to defend the D.C. Sniper. When words are used too often in the incorrect context they lose their intended meaning and power.

You can't really say that, jimbrown, because ALL terrorists have complicated motives. Its a myth that "Muslim" terrorists are motivated simply by Jihad. Counter-terrorism specialists can tell you about it.

No, I am not defing terrorism as just Muslims on a Jihad; whatever the motives of any terrorist for doing what they do, they do those things to intimidate. I agree they all have motives outside of mere random bullying.
What the D.C. sniper did was not to intimidate people; what he did was to cover up something.
Terrorists will, for political reasons or whatever, try to intimidate someone into doing what the terrorist wants. The Sniper was doing no such thing.
Does that make sense?

Abdulmutallab wasn't trying to blow his own genitals off to get you to do something. There were deeper motivations there. And the DC snipers (or at least Muhammad) were A)Muslim and B)taking revenge on a country they blamed for racism and anti-Muslim actions. So, in the complicated, non-black and white world, they were similar. Read Jessica Stern's 5 myths about who becomes a terrorist as a starting point.

You know what, I just read up on the Sniper case. I had thought it was just a cover-up; I guess Malvos statements like (his aim was to) ""set up a camp to train children how to terrorize cities" and "to shut things down across the United States" could be used to argue that it was an act of terror, to say the least.
I did not know that part of the case; I thought it was just an elaborate cover-up (though they did try to argue at one point).. I concede.
