  • I first heard The Stranglers around 1979 when a high school chum told me to come and hear his No More Heroes album. What a breath of fresh air musically it was, an alternative to all the shit on the radio.

  • the kack of my clothes ,my missus hated the smell of my clothes ,now she just hates my music ,punk 4 life

  • Classic.. Looks like it works today and probably in the future I will post this again..

  • yeah-blesse releif to hear guitar solo theway it was intended-no more rock interference wi the signal!

  • still waiting for change(?)

  • QUALITY

  • something better change ya tory gits!

  • Covered this in a band called City 11 back in '83. Loved playing it, particularly the outro. We had no keyboard player, but did what we could.

  • Nice one elgroover.

  • to Jools591 ~ Cheers Jools ☺ hadn't been on this post for a couple months, it needed some tidying ;-j

  • Apologies to anyone who had to read all that drivel with papermariob. Clearly he is an idiot who just likes to spout childish crap on YT. The good news is he has closed his account so we are rid of him. No doubt he will be back but I'll not lose any sleep over it.

Back to The Stranglers - JJ would have kicked his butt from John O Groats to Lands End!!

  • I was always struck by how unique the guitar solo was on this. I do not think any of the 'greats' would have come up with that. The string bends sound like they are going to go out of tune and then get reigned in giving them kind of slurred speech effect

  • i love the end of this song

  • Seen them 3 times and awesome each time.they were all mad as hatters but made great and clever music.Along with the clash seen as elder statesman of punk/new wave.

  • great band - great story skunner

  • I got into The Stranglers quite by accident in 1978 i was released from a care home in Manchester into the care of my Aunty .She had asked me what i would like as a sort of coming home present and i told her Heroes album by David Bowie she got No more Heroes album by mistake. But couldn't take it back because she had nicked it .I must come from a family of villains

  • "..she had nicked it .I must come from a family of villains"

Th@'s the way to do it...lol.... P-J Proudhon would be proud :-D

  • She nicked you a damn good album!

  • Amongst other things yes .

  • @skunner64 THAT is a fantastic wee tale mate

  • @skunner64 Gotta love that aunty

  • @skunner64 . Your Aunty did you a great favour mate!

  • @skunner64 ....could be a short film...nice story.

  • @skunner64 nice one

  • @skunner64 who said crime never pays lol top story mate i have been laughing for an hour love it!!!

  • @skunner64 that is a cracking story..pissed myself...thanks for shareing!!!!!!!.....squeak!

  • Love The Stranglers - music that actually has a purpose and stands for something meaningful.

  • Succinctly put. Rousing stuff isn't it. Not enough of it being made anymore, music with good purpose and meaning.

If we ever get out of this mess, history will see this as a time when people were stupified by materialism.

  • great post peacewillcomesoon

  • @peacewillcomesoon

Agreed. Not just great music. To me The Stranglers always seemed to be putting more effort into their music and lyrics than most of the new bands of that time, punk or otherwise.

Without commenting, I might also say that something did change: Margaret Thatcher was elected at the end of the seventies.

  • something better change

    in britain

  • Awesome! The Stranglers own!

  • They are and they do!

  • Got turned on to the Stranglers in '78 by my Irish girlfriend in Jakarta, Indonesia, believe it or not. Next week my ear was pierced, etc. Thanks for posting the boys. Still my favorite by far from that era or genre. Even loved the later stuff!
