hey ragingutai,There is no doubt in my mind that the custom based geforce 7 thats in the ps3 is maxed out along with the 256mb xdr ram and the 256 of vram.Cell processor,I think thet can still squeeze more,Iink it still got some juice left.remember geforce 8 is what like twice as fast as the geforce 7.we got gtx 280 now whichis about twice as fast as the geforce 8800GTX.But since every ps3 is the same,the game is going to peform the same wheras pc is different.Game console are coded much better.
I did an experiment with FFXI on pc with registry settings, etc. I had the game one time eaten over if I remembered correctly, 700MB+ of texture ram. Oblivion, the most I have gotten was on my old, sold hd2900XT 1gb card, 1.05gb of texture ram, somewhere around that figure.
This actually wasn't pre-rendered. Its ashame it didn't turn out like that in the end though. Sony made some last minute changes to their RAM. It went from 1GB RAM to 512MB RAM. The final graphics are still the best I've seen though. I'm enjoying the MGS4 I have right now! So back off haters.
In some situtations the game blows away pc gaming. I know cause we own all three systems. High end pc, x360 and ps3. If your talking stuff like overall AF(Ansitropic filtering), Shadow resolution, and AntiAliasing, no question there, pc wins hands down in this dept, every time. But for a system(ps3) that only has 256 of vram and 256 of system ram, gpu based on a custom geforce 7, Still prettie unbelievable that they achieved the efforts. give me a pc with similar setup as the ps3, would be slow.
My guess is roughly an estimated amount, probably around 80%+
Now if you put like 16Xaf,16Xaa with supersamping, 4096X4096 Shadow map resolution, it would be interesting how fast the game would actually move. It probably wont budge at all at thoses settings due to only 256 of v ram. Shadow resolution eats alot of texture ram already.
For example, I have seen on the web where a person was playing ES IV: Oblivion for the pc at only 800X600 resolution, sucker ate over a gig of texture ram.
Dont get me wrong ragingutai, Like before, There some stuff in this game blows away pc gaming but when it comes to like depth of field on the overall quality as in filtering, aa Cleanness, shadow detail, and higher resolution, this is where PC WINS HANDS DOWN, There is no exception to this. I can make an very old pc game look alot cleaner then todays games, Games like lineage II, FFXI on pc, you can make it look very very clean but the overall texture quality doesnt change, depend on settings.
You also spend THOUSANDS more dollars to do that with a PC. I've got a dual 8800 quad core PC and while the games "look" better, the console games seem to play better because it's a dedicated system instead of a bunch of buyer specified components as in a PC.
For the price, and what it can do with the relatively minimal amount of memory, GPU etc.. a PS3 blows a PC away bang for the buck by a LONG SHOT.

The system is using what a pentium 3 based cpu clocked to what, 766 mhz, a 64 mb of ram, a geforce 3 based or something to that degree, look how the game looks along with the frame rate.
Get a pc with equivalent specs, 100% guaranteed the game wont even move as fast or look as good.

OMG this was in year 2006, he's a lot better looking now in model wise. They fixed up the nose, eye brows, ears you name it its been patched up so perfectly it looks realistic!

I doubt that, seeing as how good cards are 200+ bucks and then you need the case, FANS, MOTHERBOARD and a bunch of other stuff. Getting GOOD stuff is expensive...

Everything I know about computer graphics tells me this is impossible. I've never heard of, let alone seen with my own eyes anything being able to render stuff of that complexity and density in REAL TIME before. The PS3 must be one BEAST of a machine.

Dude, Xbox live is the best online system for a console yet. Even if you do have to pay $60 a year for it, so what? You get what you pay for, and it has great features and content! Xbox live is great!!!!

A devkit is for people who want to make games for the PS3, meaning developer COMPANIES, meaning it costs a bunch of money, meaning normal people can't have it.

When it comes to games it's too opinionated to really tell what is the best. Some of the funnest games I ever played were from the NES, SNES and Turbo Grafx 16. Hell I'll play Bubble Bobble over MGS or Halo any day. At least with Bubble Bobble I can get someone to help me beat the stages and laugh at the corny random bad guys like the killer teddy bears or the weird ghosts that look like sperm. Because i hate playing games on a PC... And a good PC can be over £1000. PS3 seems to have more car games atm. Resistance Fall of Man, and MGS4 are the only cool looking exclusive PS3 games.
I might never get a PS3, but if it comes out for the PC I'll get it. Even if it's for $80. It's worth getting... and playing.

Just like Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3! MGS4 will suck just like those games which millions of copies, and are still loved by fans decades later, and are even remade on newer systems just to once again remind us of how great they were aren't. 360 has way more games. The PS3 exclusive games havent sold very many copies, while alot of 360 exclusive games have made gaming history (Well maybe not LOADS, but GoW and Halo 3 are both pretty awesome) Also, alot of "PS3 exclusives" end up getting made for the 360 aswell. But I dont know if MGS4 will.

You are a little behind the market here. There was a price drop for the PS3 a month or two ago. Now the 20 GB PS3 is only $399.99, which is only $50 more and you get free online play. And MGS4. Yay! The only reason why the PS3 graphics have not far surpassed the Xbox 360 is because the Xbox 360 has had a year more to learn how to use the potential. But soon the developers will learn how to harness that power and the games will be so much better.

I have a PS3 for four months and it has never crashed. You can leave them on 24/7 and they won't overheat. Well, they get pretty hot but nothing happens to them and they are whisper-quiet. They make about 1/4 the noise on an Xbox 360.

second of all (heres the kicker) its in a plastic box while being demo played, so i assume all the heat is trapped in the box causing it to backfire or w/e.

Everything I know about computer graphics tells me this is impossible. I've never heard of, let alone seen with my own eyes anything being able to render stuff of that complexity and density in REAL TIME before. The PS3 must be one BEAST of a machine.

When it comes to games it's too opinionated to really tell what is the best. Some of the funnest games I ever played were from the NES, SNES and Turbo Grafx 16. Hell I'll play Bubble Bobble over MGS or Halo any day. At least with Bubble Bobble I can get someone to help me beat the stages and laugh at the corny random bad guys like the killer teddy bears or the weird ghosts that look like sperm. I might never get a PS3, but if it comes out for the PC I'll get it. Even if it's for $80. It's worth getting... and playing.
Also you'd be surprised at how many fans there are for the MGS games that never even played the game. I have played the first one and got hooked, even though I'm more of a NES ol' school gal. The other two I enjoy seeing others play. That's how good the games were. "Watch me as I turn into a box. Can't see me." *LOL* Hilarious with a buddy. Alone it sucks.

MGS4 will suck just like those games which millions of copies, and are still loved by fans decades later, and are even remade on newer systems just to once again remind us of how great they were aren't. 360 has way more games. The PS3 exclusive games havent sold very many copies, while alot of 360 exclusive games have made gaming history (Well maybe not LOADS, but GoW and Halo 3 are both pretty awesome) Also, alot of "PS3 exclusives" end up getting made for the 360 aswell. But I dont know if MGS4 will.

all these systems are like suvs and each one sucks the same gas (game prices) but some break down quicker. yeah ps3 has nice graphics, maybe better than 360, i dont know, but i havent been able to get it to work at all.

You are a little behind the market here. There was a price drop for the PS3 a month or two ago. Now the 20 GB PS3 is only $399.99, which is only $50 more and you get free online play. And MGS4. Yay! The only reason why the PS3 graphics have not far surpassed the Xbox 360 is because the Xbox 360 has had a year more to learn how to use the potential. But soon the developers will learn how to harness that power and the games will be so much better.

jesus you are defensive. how come in every store that demos out the ps3 its always down, frozen or with some errors? ive been able to play a racing game for 5 minutes before it crashed. so im interesting in playing the ps3 if it didnt overheat and crash.

I have a PS3 for four months and it has never crashed. You can leave them on 24/7 and they won't overheat. Well, they get pretty hot but nothing happens to them and they are whisper-quiet. They make about 1/4 the noise on an Xbox 360.
