i have been told that i won't be able to put xp pro on a sata hard drive is this true as i have a brand new xp pro ready to be put in a new build if its possible how do i put it on a sata hard drive,i have not purchased the motherboard yet but i can;t get in touch with asus to ask if a floppy or cd comes with the drivers, you have to buy the product and supply them with the serial numbers and the like which is no good to me
you can certainly install XP on a SATA HDD, but you will most likely need a floppy disk for the drivers. If the board does not come with a floppy, you can make one from the asus driver CD that comes with the motherboard on another computer.
Once you have a floppy boot from XP cd and press F6 when prompted so you can install the SATA drivers from the floppy.
did that sata cable go in sata 1 slot also do the jumpers on both the hard drive and the dvd rewriter or doesn't it matter as on my build i will not be using a floppy drive all i will have is hard drive and writer with a p5q pro motherboard
If you are using a SATA drive it will not have jumpers to set, only IDE drives have that. If your optical drive is IDE then you should set the jumper on it to 'master', and if you get a second drive that will be using the same IDE cable then that would be set to 'slave'.
Your SATA cable doesn't have to go into SATA 1 but it is good practice to put it in the lowest numbered socket first (you may have SATA 0).
Can you be active gain?
