Easy to understand why the American GovernMent created this story against Japan and Japanese companies: 1.- GM in bankrupt 2.- The American Government, now, owns GM (but GM still needs to be saved, still in bankrupt. GM is not profitable to be a stable company). Then: The best way to SAVE that bankrupt is getting market share back but from WHERE?

But, have looked at auto market in Japan? What percentage of cars sold in Japan are made in Japan? Have you thought about Japanese government's past trade-protections?

Know the facts if you want to express your opinion. I have been in Japan for two weeks now and saw many BMWs, Mercedes', VWs, and even Alfa Romeos but no US made cars except one Hummer. These is no trade barrier against foreign made vehicles in Japan. Import tax is zero. US made cars are just not competitive in Japanese market.

Your baseless accusation of the last half is just pitiful.

Government is going overboard with these hearings, and it creates a huge perception of conflict of interest.

BUT, In fairness, if Toyota had followed the same set of guidelines that GM used for issuing recalls, the number of their recalls probably would have been far higher than 600 something. But then again, they probably would've never gotten themselves in this situation if they had issues recall when it was prudent to do so.
