  • So if you are a mom or a dad and you have your daughter in ballet I strongly recomend to take her with the orthopedist before start en pointe, also you should check how well prepared is teacher, many bad teachers put the girls en pointe early looking for quick results... It's more important to have to let the student develop. Besides girls love fancy shoes and stuff like that but a girl with damaged feet won't have the confidence to wear sandals or get a pedi.

  • Hi I'm a dancer who recently got a job as a teacher in a ballet academy I usually teach boys but this year I got a group of girls, very young but all of them have their feet severely damaged because dancing en pointe too early, the bones are out of place, there is one girl who had danced en pointe for years but she dosn't know how to tie her ribbons properly and there is other who is going to need surgery cause her feet are very damaged

  • i used to be able to do that but i got into a skiing accident last year and shattered my ankle any suggestions about trying to get back on pointe again?

  • Very Good ;) How old are you?

  • IT's just too much for those littles ones....too fast...musically all wrong......

  • i was 11.5

  • I just turned 13 and my ballet teacher said i am ready for Pointe!! :D I cant wait!

  • I am 17 and I just got my FIRST POINTE shoes....I don’t care how old I am I have been dancing since I was 12 but that was on and off till 14. I’m happy even if I’m old and will never be an amazing dancer I do take it seriously but I’m having fun too! My first pointe class is in 2 days ahhhh!..btw they might look young but we can’t judge a video of the girls ages...I’m 17 I look 13...

  • @bunnybroadcast I'm 20 and I got my first pointe shoes last week ;) I started ballet when I was 18 and it was an on and off thing too until the recent 8 months when I got really dedicated then my teacher gave me the go ahead :) me too! although there is no ballet in my prospective career but I love every single bit of ballet and I'm having the best time. my first pointe class is next week! how was your first pointe class?

  • @TheChaiTeaLatte It was great! :D Hurt but GREAT! and tons of fun! :D

  • @TheChaiTeaLatte congratulations i am 24 and will be getting my pointe shoes next year i have been taking ballet on and off since i was 13 good luck

  • im 12 and im gettng y shoes this weekend

  • personally, i think starting pointe at the age of 6 is bad!! your feet are still growing.

  • @cutiepie6412 yeah age 6 is a terrible idea to me

  • hi um im 11 and ive only been doing ballet for 2 years. this year is my third. and im starting pre-pointe. any tips?

  • i got mine at around 10 years old. =)

  • It just seems like they are breaking their shoes in too much and breaking the box and the shank. I understand pointe shoes need to be broken in but including these in the begining of every pointe class probably lessens the life of their pointe shoes. I did pointe for 6 years.

  • I got mine when I was 13

  • I got my first pointe shoes yesterday - this'll be helpful to me to know how to warm up :) I'm 15 and although I only resumed classes five months ago, I'd been doing Irish dance for a year and a half beforehand and I studied ballet for six years when I was younger! I have strong feet :)

  • Terrible lack of precision. Bad work. C'est n'importe quoi, AU SECOURS!!!

  • Their technique is lacking and they can't hear music very well at all

  • A warning to all of you that are claiming that you are under 12 and on pointe.

Your instructors are pretty much throwing you in headlong into a life of injury and foot problems, and it is very precarious what they are doing. As I told another young lady here, the Russian Method does put its girls on pointe early on. Russian dancers also have feet problems up until they die - to the point where some are unable to walk without assistance.

  • I agree 10 11ish is too young my cousin does pointe and she said that if you start too young you can really mess your body up!

  • Just a quick comment their pointe shoes over there are not the same as over here in the U.S. they train with soft toe pointe shoes. The box is not as hard as our pointe shoes so maybe that is why they are so young

  • why the young students are so skinny...?

  • it looks like she's showing off a little but thats my opinion and your still a wonderful dancer of what i have seen ;)

  • So from what I'm hearing since I'm 10 I'm not too old to start ballet and become professional, like, Polina Semionova? I want to be as good as her, or at least close. I don't want to just dance for fun, I want to have a career, so am I too old to start?

  • @iRideiHorse

Actually, you aren't. Misty Copeland of ABT started at 13. She has made it up to Soloist.

  • @antisocialist87 Thanks!

  • im 11 and i do pointe! it depends how long you have done ballet!

  • @emilytacomuzic Well, I'm 10 and I am on pointe. It depends on how well you can dance. If you don't pay attention and get corrected a lot, you are most likely not ready to dance on pointe. But, my ballet instructor said we were good enough to dance on pointe, so that is what I stand by.

  • @PrimaOnPointe

Actually you are supposed to be at least at the age of 12 to go up on pointe because that is that age that the cartilage in your feet begins to harden. Twelve is the minimum age, so you don't cause any injuries to your feet and so your feet don't develop wrong.

  • @Savannahlyn143 Well, I am on pointe at 10. I agree that your feet's bones may not be hardened at age 10, but as with Russian ballet, I started when my instructor thought that I was ready. Honestly though, every person is different; some people's feet's cartilage harden earlier or later. I am not sure whether mine have, but my ballet teacher allowed me to get on en pointe, so...

  • @PrimaOnPointe

It doesn't have much at all to do with the cartilage hardening at earlier ages. It's not like puberty - which can happen precociously. The foot does not ossify until you turn about 11-14. It doesn't happen earlier than this. I'm trained in the Russian Method - and let me tell you about that - your feet are SCREWED after you finish. Russian dancers have a notorious amount of foot problems due to this.

  • @antisocialist87 True too. Everyone has a different opinion regarding the beginning age for pointe. Age isn't the only thing that is worth counting, obviously. Everyone's feet is different, you can't say, "Your cartilage hardens at exactly 12 years, 3 months, 15 days, and 3 minutes." Going to a doctor is best, though. I'm no professional, so don't take me word for word.

And... I do mostly Ceccecti (spelling?) ballet, so sorry for any confusion with my wording.

  • @PrimaOnPointe

Agreed. I started in the Russian method (Vaganova), but my mom was particularly strict about them not putting me up until I had a doctor's evaluation. My feet were fine at about 12.

  • @PrimaOnPointe Cecchetti will put their dancers up early, but it's not nearly as bad as the Vaganova method. It's not unheard of for Russian companies to put their dancers up at 6 years old, which I feel is unconscionable.

  • @antisocialist87 Well, yes, 6 years old is really early. Obviously, for most people (if not all), that is quite dangerous (in my opinion, since they are still very young). Honestly though, I've heard of only one person doing Vaganova and being on pointe at age 6. 6 years and on pointe is like what you said, unconscionable. JMO

  • @emilytacomuzic ur 11 bff? o.o

  • i agree there waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too young! ive been dancing since age 2 and im 13 this is my first year en pointe-i started when i was 12! these girls are not physically developed enough for poiinte work sorry

  • Can i just say that they are way too young to be doing pointe, their bones are still developing and this could damage their feet in the long term.... this is really bad they could end up not being able to do pointe as they get older.

  • They look waaay to young...

  • not only do they look too young, but my teacher always says that the best pointework warmup is just simple rises and releves in parallel, first, second and fifth position and some echappes?

  • @alisonnn2008 What your saying with the releves and rises etc is how I was taught to warm up for pointe work too

  • DOes anyone know the music for the pointe warm up in BlackSwan???????

  • @dcmaniac It is a piano version of the music in Swan Lake Act I, before the waltz and the pas de trois. That was vague, sorry, but if you look it up on iTunes I think it's the first music after the prelude. I'm assuming the dancers' warm-up at the barre, I don't remember any other warm-up :)

  • @issyballet95 THank you soooo much!! You have no idea!! Your reply made my day lol I've been searching online for a whole week and I couldn't figure it out lol

  • @dcmaniac

Yes. The actual Tchaikovsky piece is called "Allegro guisto." The Black Swan piece is a variant of that played by piano.

  • @antisocialist87 Thankyou so much!!!!! :D

  • From what I remember, it isn't ONLY about strength when you decide when to start girls on pointe. It has to do with the bones, when you are young, your body is still forming/shaping and if you start pointe too soon your fett could suffer really bad damage as you don't let the bones harden and you can properly deform your feet. They will be beaten up anyway in pointe shoes but you do need them to walk on for your whole life, dancer or not...

  • I got on pointe on about 10 months after I began ballet (I'm 16). They told me that it would take 2 years, but I'm old enough, I'm a quick learner, have strong muscles and ankles (I'm a destroyer of slippers xD), so it's logic... But Also minimum you should be 10 to get in pointe, If you are REEEAAALLYY good. But normaly is at 12-13 years, because not only age counts, also strenght, disipline, feet structure, and balance...

  • way way 2 young!!

  • They should not be on point.

  • Omg those girls look like 8.! They seem too young to be on pointe. I started pointe` when I was 11. (Now I'm 13.) That was my 8th year of ballet and now I'm on the 10th. (:

  • @CupcakeMonster26 I was on pointe at 7 years old !

  • @aniuta2205 thats IMPOSABLE. if it is the what are you teachers on !?! SEVEN !?!?? i've been on point since i was about ten because i did cheerleading before. when your seven your growth plates arent even fully developed ! when your older your muscles will fail. even if your an advanced learner, your body hasnt even started puberty yet. please. quit with the crap. no teacher in their right mind would do that.

  • *scream* I LOVE ballet but I can't take it because its costs to much!!!! I used to take it and I wasn't on pointe but when I was ready for pointe my mom took me out of the class because she said it would damage my feet! I'm just so jealous!!! T-T

  • They look far too young to be on points.

  • I started pointe when i was around 9 - 10, (and i have been dancing since i was 2.) people may argue that was too early, but i believe that was the correct decision. because i started so much younger than others in my classes, i have come to discover that i have no fear of pointe work, which they do.

  • I started ballet last yr . And next year , i'm going to do point work (:

  • Theyyy look soo bored..

  • i did rad when i was little but i swiched to ceccetti ( i dont know how to spell it :( ) and we never got to wear skirts and lavender body suits..you guys are lucky!

  • My school started you on pointe in grade 4, no-matter how you old where, i'm not going to say what school. I started when I was almost 10 and and quit 10 months later becuase i kept spraining my arches every week

  • @meowool you can sprain yoru chaes? well how wouldi know..i never sprained anything

  • @MissGracieLove yeah both feet would be in tubi-grips for the whole week an d come of on the friday morning , then have my pointe lesson in the evening, and then put them back on before i went to sleep. XD

  • @meowool what are tubi-grips? i have never heard of them.

  • @MissGracieLove a tube of material that compresses your muscle slightly and helps recover/prevent minor injuries.

  • They look young, but there skill is very very good :) I hope they keep at it they all have potential perfect posture and all!

  • Stop being so critical! Ballet is ballet, it's for everyone to enjoy. Why the hell do some dancers have to be so bitchy about other dancers? You don't OWN ballet. Get over yourselves and appreciate other peoples work.

  • TIP: When you do your en closhe, make sure you keep your leg the same height at the front as you do at the back. It is a very bad habit to get into if you don't

  • they look young for pointe

  • Horrible Americans you need to teach these kids some posture and pointe is bad for their age I Live in Canada and do cechetti grade five, am fourteen and am getting pointe shoes next month jeez Americans stop rushing kids onto pointe!!!!!

  • @chantaldipolat the only reason you are saying that is because u want pointe shoes. also, thats juust wat ur dance school taught u tp believe. im getting pointe shoes in two months and im 12. that is a great time to go on pointe, when ur twelve. plus, people in the boston ballet go on pointe when theyre twelve, and they know a hell of a lot more than you

  • @chantaldipolat RAD is English based, so it is the english rushing dancers onto pointe. and if you think they are too young , i started pointe near the end of my first year at middle school.

  • @chantaldipolat when you first said 'horrible americans' i thought you were like from urope or soemthing...i dont think america is any different from canada ( at least in the topic of ballet)

  • @TheMsstorm u have no idea wat i do i get up at 3 am and go to ballet at 4am i do it tilll 6 and then in the afternoon and idc if ur mom doesnt my mom does

  • is this trying to prove dancers have to be skinny?

  • @TheFatchiwawa no it does not!

  • @TheFatchiwawa Dancers don't have to be anorexic they just have to be physically fit. I mean if someone who is an experienced dancer and ways around 200 lbs then got up on the tips they would surely make injury to their foot, ankle, or leg in some way. People with weight issues can do any other form of dance they can even do ballet just not with pointe shoes.

  • @TheFatchiwawa well my dance teacher told me this "you dont do ballet to get fit (or skinny as you might say), but you get fit to do ballet" really, you NEED to be fit (have the muscle) to do ballet properly. if ally ou are is skin and bone (anorexic) then you cant really do ballet..i mean i have so much leg muscle, but im trying to get ride of some of the fat on my body (not all of it PEOPLE TELL ME A MILLION TIMES 'you need a cirten amount of fat on you body') lol

  • @TheFatchiwawa but yes balelrinas look more attractive (as do every other human being) when they are 'skinny' whatever skinny means to you,.

to me it means having musclular legs and having a strong core and havign a waist , having muscular arms that are not twigs but are not super big.

  • i am 12 i started when i was 3 and got my pointe shoes at 6 or 7 my ballett school is the only ballet school that teaches the russian style in all of eastern america now u all r ok but the style in wih theyve taught u is terrible and hiddeaus american ballet is just terrible but i do ballet 6 days a week and pointe is a good 9-11 hrs of it and then we have regualr ballet and then jumps and centere and pas de deux and everything i live at ballet

  • @Danyballerina6 starting pointe at that young of an age is extremley bad for your growth plate between the joints on your toes because it is not hardened yet. For the hideous american ballet they were taught its simple stretching and getting used to the pointe not a performance therefor is does not have to be exactly on time with the others.

  • @TheMsstorms i agree

  • @Danyballerina6 and if you had to practice 9-11 hours 6 days of the week how is that possible because school is around 8 hours so that means you had to be up so that means you only got to sleep less than seven hours. I doubt your mother would have approved of that I know my mother wouldn't.

  • i am 12 i started when i was 3 and got my pointe shoes at 6 or 7 my ballett school is the only ballet school that teaches the russian style in all of eastern america now u all r ok but the style in wih theyve taught u is terrible and hiddeaus american ballet is just terrible but i do ballet 6 days a week and pointe is a good 9-11 hrs of it

  • i am 12 i started when i was 3 and got my pointe shoes at 6 or 7 my ballett school is the only ballet school that teaches the russian style in all of eastern america now u all r ok but the style in wih theyve taught u is terrible and hiddeaus american ballet is just terrible

  • Uhh i remember we had to do are warm up and ballet class outside (since it was an outdoor recital) and it was 100 degrees outside! Sorry for thr random comment btw XD

  • they're too young, aren't they?

i'm 14 years old and i dance 7 years ballett, but only now i dance pointe..!

  • hey balletcats!! :) in what grade are you in with RAD? right now?

  • I'm thinking about doing Ballet. And im 12. At first, i didnt think my mom would let me, but then she said if my dad pays for it, she'll see what she can do! I hope they say yes.

  • IM ELLEVEN AND HAD TRANING IN EVERY TYPE OF DANCE FOR NINE YEARS AND I WILL BE STARTING POINTE PREP IN DEC. AND POINTE ONE IN JANUARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • where can i buy thouse lovly LEOTARDS and SKIRTS???

  • i'm 14 and i did pointe at age 11/12. i stopped ballet moved onto, lyrical jazz and hip hop, stopped dancing all together and did gymnastics and have came to realize that ballet and lyrical are my passion. does anyone have any advice on how to get back into ballet again?

  • @omgaubreysasinger just go back to your old studio and take classes!! I quit when i was in 6th grade, and i started again summer of my sophomore year in high school. it was hard, but i have improved alot and i am almost on pointe! (I just turned 17 in April.) I wish i went back to dance sooner, but at least i went back. I really enjoy dance and i am not quitting anytime soon:)

  • they're nawt that good.

  • dang I need 2 lose some weight

  • do i have to have the ballet slippers to do ballet? i am just a beginner who wants to try it out... how much are the slippers anyway?

  • They are wearing Pointe Shoes. You will only be able to have these once you have done ballet for at least 6 months if your starting late, and even then it depends on what your teacher recommends, and how strong your ankles are. Never assume you can buy them and become good at it, it can be dangerous! If your just starting out, buy flat, soft ballet slippers, though for your first class they may allow you to do it in bare feet if you have not yet bought shoes.

  • @ppoppollll yes you should have slippers, they range but if you are beginning probably about $20 or $30 =]

  • awesome! all of you girls are great dancers! do you like being en pointe?

  • wow u guys make me look like a hipo

  • they make me look worse then that!!

  • they are sooo skinny!

  • that's not always true

  • Um...

I just started point and thats no point dance too me??

    F**K

  • @Caylie900 it's not a dance, it's a warm up

  • omg, that is SCARY-SKINNY! People say I look like I'm sick, but these girls are, WOW!!!!

  • the one in the middle is rushing the combination a bit.

  • well im 18, i have danced on and off since i was three and i also played roller hockey for a year and a half.. my dance teacher (i was in dance for about 5 years all together) said that if i would want to go thru the blisters and sore feet i could easily do pointe work.

  • shouldn't they go through their feet instead of going straight up to pointe?

  • @lovedd189 it depends...with that particular style not exactly....look at sanfransisco ballet...they do more of a spring...however i agree i think the dancer should roll through the foot to releve' =]

  • By the way I'm grade six!

  • I'm RAD! We do this pointe work, it's really fun! I remember my 1st pointe shoes when I was10! I still have them!

  • three months of training is NOT enough time for your ankles and leg muscles to be ready for pointe. Even if you are a quick learner, your muscles just aren't used to ballet. It should take at the very least 2 years of ballet (if you start at an older age) to go en pointe. It isn't safe. I started dance when I s 10. And I started ballet when I was 12. I just began pointe this year (I am 14)

  • yes, but even two years isn't very much. To reasure there aren't any health problems in the future, you need to learn it correctly and you need to have three to four years (even 5) before you go on pointe.

  • i'vve been dancing for 7 months and i'm already on pointe

but i started when i was 13 so i guess that has something to do with it or maybe i just genetically got g00d ankles lol cuz my mom was good at this stuff but she never used her talent :(

  • i took 3 ballet classes the previous year, and every teacher corrected everything i was doing, so i think i was good by the time i was asked to go en pointe. (my school has been running for 38 years,(with many girls going onto professional dance companies) so i think they know how to teach. Pointe's dangerous, but it's not THAT dangerous.

  • @kristaaxoxwtp yeah, i started ballet when i was 11 and i got my first pointe shoes when was 13 (im 14 to now), but some people at my dance school got pointe shoes when they were 8! and even though they had danced like, 4 years isn't that kind of crazy?

  • @kristaaxoxwtp hmm..well I started ballet 4 months ago..and started on pointe 2 months later :) I practise every day 15..30 min at home and at class 20 maybe 30 min a week just pointe. I take class 5 times a week that`s 7-8 hours a week and I love it!! :)

  • @kristaaxoxwtp I totally agree. I started dance when 5 years old and I have literally just gone on pointe now and I'm 16 years old so should hopefully be strong enough :)

  • @ballamac yeah, I started when I was four, and got my shoes at fourteen. I am personally very much against girls starting pointe younger than 12 no matter how much training they've had. You just usually aren't strong enough until then, and pointe is also about maturity level. Can you take it seriously? There are a bunch of girls I know who started at 10/11 and even 12 who mess around on pointe and are just asking to get hurt. older=better in my opinion :)

  • @narniaprincess05 I envy those kids doing pointe too, but if they're ready, they're ready.

  • @kristaaxoxwtp actually, it takes more than 2 years. ive been dancing for 11 years and im 13 and i was put on pointe at 12. i was one of the better girls, and one of the youngest in my pointe class. you need YEARS of training.

  • @kristaaxoxwtp Wow, really!? I wouldn't even think 2 years would be enough time! That's impressive! I started ballet when I was 2, and I wasn't anywhere near being on pointe until I was at least 11.

  • hey there....

well.. you call this point work.... :) for unproffetional its maybe allright....

  • how old r these girls and what level is this

  • I think they are between 13 and 15 and its RAD grade 5 (I am doing the same at the moment)

We just started with point, too.

  • Wow.. Only three months?! Cool.. Hope I can work hard then :) But I'm still persuading my mum.. So hope she let's me learn :)

  • at 1:08 the girl to the left really should work on getting a flat back and using her hips to lean forward and not rolling through her spine...

  • i hate pointes, they kill, but they look amazing :)

  • They look like sticks :[

  • My friend is wondering if she could start Ballet. She's 15, told her age doesn't matter. As longas you're willing. She was inspired by the pointe. I want to start Ballet again too. I was never able to reach the pointe at nine. :[

  • I had a ballet colleague in a class for beginning adults that wore her first pointe shoes when she was over 50...

  • thanks ;)

  • e girl tt e camera is focuesed on looks really restless....

  • Is it too late to learn ballet at the age of thirteen?

  • nope. u can start @ any time in fact. jus needa put in more effort den e rest cuz e rest prob started earlier. all e best!

  • of course not! :) you could start when you're thirty five if you wanted to!

  • noo! start!

  • definitely not....................if you're looking to become a professional dancer then it's a bit too late..............but if you want to do it as a sport and something you enoy definitely not.......I started this year ( I'm 13)and I was on pointe in 3 months...sooo it's really just about how hard you work and obviously it helps if you have talent

  • Uh you're wrong. As long as you're up to it, you can become a professional dancer, some of the most famous dancers now started late..

  • @isthatmarcee really? i'm glad to hear that, as i only started ballet in february and i am 13!

  • now way! you can do ballet at any age!

  • omg how do you get your toes that pointy O.O! i cant wait to start ballet it looks awesome!

  • they look sick.

  • there very pretty~!!

    wow.. is this an academy?

  • i started at 14

and im doing grade 6 this term

  • not alot of pointe work ther mostly just normal warmup

  • i almost agree with jaeballet

  • well i started at 10. but usually 12+ on pointe

  • its usuall 13 or 14 on pointe . There skinny. And pointe shoes are very hard sturdy and heavy

  • ballerinastar42 how did u get that skinny?

    i want to know

  • how old r they?

  • what grade is this? intermediate? or intermediate foundation?

  • i am 5'1 and 76 lbs. I am under the weight that they usually have which is 92 pounds.

  • 12-13 pointe

  • you three look really skinny

  • how old is to old to be on pointe.

  • It doesn't really matter, as long as you take classes and your instructor says that you're stong enough to go en pointe. :]

  • hmrockon101 : you can begin pointe at any time, so long as it's after the recommended age of eleven or twelve. requirements to begin pointe include having an adequate amount of ballet training, strong technique, and strong ankles, legs, and core muscles.

  • I agree

  • i began at the age of 10. so dont base it on that.

  • everyone saying they are too thin, have considered that fact that the image i streched, they look much skinnier than they are. and also, BMI doesn't apply too dancers since mucsles weigh more than fat.

  • i know right im on pointe and i weigh much more than they do and we do the first exersize too at my dane acadamy

  • what's the music called like? =)

My teacher uses it as well (:

  • its RAD :D

  • That was cool the way they did the plies and por de bras (sp?) together while turning in and out. I don't really get how that part was a "pointe" warmup though. They were all really skinny and It's not healthy to be that way seriously if your thighs are as thin as your neck I don't thing thats healthy. You can look up online too see what your BMI is and that will tell you if your a healthy weight.

  • Well, it could just be that they're naturally like that... with all of the training they do it makes their metabolisms (I don't know if I spelt that right... haha) really fast allowing them to balance their weight out... :]]

  • <
