Anything that brings attention to the 1939 movie is good. Roseanne's take on this is interesting; I'd have never cast her but she looks like she's having a hoot of a time. (I see they took some liberties with the dialogue, hee hee.) Wish I'd seen Eartha as the Witch. She must have been fierce and fun. She was a gem, sorely missed.
Aw! I never knew Roseanne did this. Roseanne needs more publicity because there's alot of stuff I don't know about her... and believe me I look her up on the internet everyday and learn new old stuff about her. I love her. that's too bad...
The Wizard told them to bring him the broomstick and he'll grant their requests and then when they do so, he tells them to come back tomorrow. The reason he did all that was because he didn't think they'd be able to get the broomstick and hoped they'd think so as well and give up, but it didn't go that way. He was now backed into a corner and knew the only way out it was to leave Emerald City, which is why he told them to come back tomorrow so he'd have time to leave before the truth came out.
Also remember the clue he gave...he said bring me the broomstick of the witch of the west...he didn"t say wicked witch...also he knew if the witch found out he was a fake, it would hae been all over for him....
@TheWizardofodd12 Don't worry, I've decided to take her place soon and substitude her voices. I may be a boy, I can voice her characters well. I even tend to be in my own musical, "Animaniacs: The Musical" based off the show along with new characters. Depending on the accepted format, I'm playing my characters Wizard Waldo or Background Singer.
There IS an official broadway production of the Wizard of Oz. They are on a national 2008-2009 tour right now. It's probably not this production though. You can check out a trailer of it by typing in the youtube searchbox: Wizard of Oz national tour.
Unfortunately, I do not. This is the only taping of this production I know of. I do have press reel clips of JoAnne Worley. Hopefully I will be able to find someone with clips of Eartha...If I do, I will be sure to post them. Sadly, I never got to see Eartha as the Witch. I was only 7 at the time she played the role.
I saw this productions all three years in a row Roseanne, Eartha Kitt and Joanne Worley as the witch . . . I have to say Eartha Kitt was the best . . . that is when they added the jitterbug number back in the show. Roseanne was good . . . Joanne Worley was too comical and ad libed way too much . . . although when she melted . . . she popped back up to waist level and scared the audience and melted again . . . it made everyone jump . . . that was kind of cool.
*Rubs eyes* Oh, snap. I thought she'd be better...G-d knows I didn't hear anything if I didn't recognise that voice. This is a role I thought she'd revel in. I was wrong.
lol the wiked with is HULARIOUS!!!!!!!! I saw this in turonto when i was like 4. My mom sad the wicked witch was soooo funny! It was probibly her!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, it wouldn't have been her because Roseanne never toured. It would have been Eartha Kitt, Joanne Worley, or Lillian Montevechi. I'm assuming it was either Worley or Montevechi as they played it comedically like Roseanne, whereas Kitt played it more straight evil.
The melt in WICKED and the melt in THE WIZARD OF OZ are too different to compare. Where as Idina does have a haunting cry, that's what it was meant to be. It was meant to disturb the audience. In THE WIZARD OF OZ, she didn't just go, they had to integrate dialogue for the dramatic effect. Also, the meltdown in OZ is happy, where as it's sad in WICKED.
i saw this show twice with eartha and joann...i loved them both but eratha was sassy and i loved it! i think they both had better characters than roseann..
Yes, it is. Joanne Worley was in the touring production in 1999. Roseanne was in MSG's original production in 1997. Costumes, sets, and staging were slightly altered in 1998 for the revival and touring run.
lol thats what I thought. I saw Joanne (when I was 7)she really made it her own...tho Rosanne did very well, a bit of comedic with a slash of terror lol
Is there anywhere I can see the full play with Roseanne as the witch?

@jacktodd1 I saw Ertha Kit in the San Francisco run. Joann Worley did it in the Pantages run in Los Angeles.
While they were both good, Ertha Kit was the best.
