That seemed to happen with The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Burton's name is in the title of the film, yet he didn't script it, write the songs, or direct it. Do you feel like you get proper credit for that film, at least in the industry? Do people you meet generally realize that you directed it?

HS: It's annoying. The name didn't go on until a month before the film came out. It would have been fine with me if it was always going to be like that. But ultimately, you could say it was a marketing thing. He was already a brand after he'd done the first Batman, and Beetlejuice. Yeah, it can be annoying. But most people in Hollywood know I directed it, because I have a long history of connections there.

the only main difference is the character called Wybie who was created so Coraline wouldn't end up walking around and talking to herself. He is like just a person who she talks to mostly when she is in the real world (in the other world he can't talk)

Just found out about this just today and it looks incredible! Looks like it's destined to put anything else animated in 2008 and so far this year. Forget overly commercialized pap like Pixar... THIS looks like the real deal! :D

I was excited when I seen part of the trailer, but I was let down to find out Dakota Fanning is the little girl and her mother is Teri Hatcher of all women. Big Let down. And yes, it's not like the book at times. Another let down.

What's wrong with Dakota Fanning? And you have to realize the directors would have problems if they were forced to follow the book all throughout.

Honestly, I saw the preview and thought it was great, and yes I've also read the book. Faithfulness to the book doesn't count in the art of directing and scriptwriting, and mostly to the fans, too. It's the interpretation and awesomeness that does.

I think it's symbolism.

Buttoms represent a blindness to truth, and an acceptance of a false reality. The Other Mother doesn't want Coraline to see and accept the truth: that the other world is a trap.
