Difficulties with flight controls & power plant continues to be plagued with technical difficulties, the worst of which was the collapse of the engine during high-altitude tests.

the hal tejas is comparable to jf-17 there both evenly matched i think but jf-17 has higher service ceiling and greater range with a greater speed at high altitude so in paper jf-17 is a slightly better figher. J-10 can easily shoot a tejas and jf-17 out of the sky so j-10 is much better then both.
