I think in that period UDS, RATM and Senser (Stacked up) are 3 great bombs. For groove #1 Senser, #2UDS (Life'n perspectives of a genuine xover), #3 RATM
What I can say to those who like RATM is that they should try listening to bands like Urban Dance Squad, Dog Eat Dog, Cake, Shootyz Groove, H-Blockx, The Beastie Boys' ill communication, Machine Head, Infectious Grooves, Asian Dub Foundation, Sublime, and couple songs on Limp Bizkit's first album. No one is to judge who influenced who coz the bottom line is: we don't know and we don't give the damn.
Well if (in an altered universe) these bands played in the same time in different stages, I d like to see where we d all be.. And dont tell me uds because you are faggots.
Also its not a race of "who started it all" thing and "who listens to the older stuff".
Wasn't Urban Dance Squad inspired by the Beastie Boys' first album Licensed to Ill in 1986? They did a few songs with rock guitars in them. And of course, Run DMC was the first rap group do put heavy guitars in their songs, such as Rock Box and King of Rock.
This kind of "fighting" bout UDS and RATM?Smells like not so ok.And why?
Rage was proud that UDS made things clear in that funky great way.Rage was inspired by UDS and others.Isn't it just great to pick up on your travel the things that u like in other bands. No one is without any kind of inspriration and somehow influence of other music..Can just be great. If you don't abuse.Just making use of beautiful and pure things.IThis time screams for more rebellion in a so cool and pure way.More please!

@ELREndLondonRule no argument UDS started releasing records commercially before RATM. I've heard UDS pre-92 and they sound more like the Urge, 2SJ, RHCP, or even some 311. I can thank UDS for some of my favorite music.
Simply, this song came out after RATM's debut record, and UDS didn't really release this more aggressive sounding music until 1994 with "Persona Non Grata", which is a great record. So focus less on when the bands started releasing commercial records and more on the music.
@flojoband yes UDS had more of a mellow theme but plenty of hard core aggressive tracks such as God Blasts the Queen even from their first LP back in '89. not saying that RATM were influenced by UDS either but defo not the other way around
Don't get me wrong, I love both UDS and RATM, but RATM was inspired by UDS (they don't even denie it, and why would they, what artist isn't inspired by another). UDS was inspired by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. RHCP was probably inspired by another great band, and so on. You want to hear something uninspired? Go check out the hitlist!
Great to see so many likers of this band.20 years ago when I first heard them I knew no one else who was into them. Beastie Boys is the only band I can think of that was around who might have inspired them,a combination of Punk,Rap and all kinds of other shit mixed in.They where considered alternative,or underground back then.Long before this kind of music became Mainstream.THUMBS UP to all my fellow old punks out there.

Fakes. They found the right rythm, the rough catchy one.
And they played it over and over. They are really out of the blue so magic punk band. The video suck, their attitude is heavy. I believe they are just music makers.

RATM has been surely inspired by this band but not only:
run dmc and aerosmith made big sound in 86
Beastie boys made "licence to ill" in 1986.
Red hot chili peppers made 4 albums before "blood sugar sex magik" in 1991. their first was in 1984.
The big difference between these bands and ratm is Tom Morello.
Tom created new sounds with his guitar. Beatie boys, rhcp, run dmc/aerosmith , Anthrax/public enemy etc. did just mix rap and rock music.
Ratm has been inspired but gave it his touch. wil

I think you better do another homework instead of jerking. Urban Dance Squad formed in 1986. Their first official album was released in 1989.
And Zack De La Rocha, Tom Morello stated their inspiraiton from UDS in different stages.
An easy google homework would help you. Or even Allmusic or Wikipedia.
