As with Dutch and English, Yiddish is a West Germanic language and is based on Medieval High German from the Rhine. And there are more than one dialect depending on location.
Yiddish also contains some Hebrew words and of course some Slavic terms too as the Jews migrated from Western Europe to the East.
I'm trying to learn Yiddish so I keep a lot of links referencing it especially great klezmer and folk tunes.
This vid is interesting. A person describing in Yiddish, why he learned it and has a passion for it. English subtitles. In fact the channel owner posts all Yiddish content. You might find it of interest.
