  • The creator of these Dan Fogelberg videos must put a lot of energy into this work. It is much appreciated by many of us. The music is great in and of itself, but the addition of the pictures adds a true element of entertainment. I would much rather watch these types of well thought out videos than I would most MTV music videos any day of the week. Great job.

  • Love this song very much .. thank you for a vivid VDO and good clearly sound ..

  • Thank you so much for making this great video to go this awesome song. It is beautiful. Ever since I got 'High Country Snows' in 1985, this has been one of my favorite songs. RIP, Dan.

  • This one stands with Dan Fogelberg's best songs of all time.

  • daniel was far above the average thinker ,and musician. when the muse handed out gifts he gave dan everything all together in one package, that great voice soaring in six part harmonies, the ability to skillfuly play stringed instruments, and play piano, read ,score ,write ,and arrange music,as in the true spirit of the great composers of classical music.Daniel had that great tallent and knowledge to do so at his leisure. We can only hope for a child of his with those ethereal genetics.

  • Thanks for this great song and video! It brings back memories of living in the Folsom Area of Calif. Although, it only took nearly 5 hours to upload on my Commodore 64, it was worth it and I got to see the pictures in HD! Thank you!

  • Thanks for posting this stirring song I first heard 25 years ago. My 9 year old daughter just returned from a 3 day field trip to the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School and this is a fantastic resource and source of 4th grade memories.

  • Songs like this I call "God Songs" by which I mean that God writes the song through the artist. Makes me cry every time I play it.

  • @coffeecoffee25 I'm crying right now. I think for my 20's and how dumb I acted.

  • @ssaaty forgive yourself, my friend.

  • @coffeecoffee25 already did. thanks. just did it on facebook where my 3 children, now in their 20's, would see it.

  • I always love this song for a long time ago

  • Excellent song! I wanna learn this to sing at my local farmer's market this summer!

  • @belladeballe And I wish you success this summer with your performance!

  • ALWAYS was one of my MOST FAVORED songs from Dan . Nice video work here to add "meaning " the lyrics as well.

  • im in love with this song. usually im into the whole hip-hop glam and such but this song really touches me i dont know why i mean i learned about the gold rush like a long time ago but i love the lyrics and tune of this song!!!

  • Thnk you for the awesome video. One of my favorite songs of DF.

  • To me, no matter which was the gold finder. The song is very inspiring to people today in their struggle for life.

  • This is a nice song. But is historically incorrect. the man who built the mill and found the gold was named James Marshall. He was a lumberman who worked for John Sutter. Sutter was no where near the mill when Marshall found the gold at the mill in Coloma. Sutter was down in Sacramento. It's a shame when a songwriter writes a nice song but doesn't do proper research.

  • I hear you, boatpiper, when I was creating this video, I was in the same puzzle you have, you are historically correct. However, later I learn a songwriter has his/or her poetic license, for rhyme or other purpose, his/or her song doesn't has to be 100% historically correct. I am sure Dan read and researched, he knew what he was doing. Thank you for your comment, let's enjoy the music and the great melody, peace!

  • Being a folk musician, I love songs with historical value. Dan wrote a beautiful song but sadly missed the chance to have it placed in the archives as one of the great songs relevant to American History. His mistake turned it into a nice melody with only artistic value. I lived about a mile from Sutters Mill for 10 years. The song is all but ignored there. If he'd he gotten it right, it would be celebrated in California gold country museums. For it's mistakes, it gets dismissed as irrelevant.

  • @boatpiper Point taken !! Now lets enjoy this piece and celebrate the life of a talented musician !!!!!

  • @boatpiper The song is beautiful! You make a good point though, most people tend to believe what they hear in a ballad, or on TV. If I'm curious about a historical point, I have learned to research several different reliable sources.

  • PERFECT

  • I came from back east and now live in the great Northwest. I listen to this and think, wow this was easy for me to fly. These people......had no idea the hardship that was coming.

Dan, gives you an idea what they had to go through. Gives you a historic point of view. God Bless these folks, they had "guts"!

  • That was great

  • its one of ma fav. song, it reminds me ma childhood, da moment spent wit ma frenz, its awesome....just awesome....

  • very nice song:)

  • Loved this album and especially this song when it came out. A rock n roll fan who converted over to bluegrass upon hearing this fantastic music.

  • Yet another PERFECT "Ever On" Creation. Dan continued to show his immense diversity with his music here. Thank you for all you created and shared with us, Dan, from the 1970's through today, as you will always live on in my heart through your music. Forever, "Let It Shine!"

  • Very nicely done ! My very first Fogelberg concert was this tour! I just wished I saw him earlier than this, but I can remember saying oh god, he is going to do all bluegrass!! Then he treated us to some of his classics songs!! When he did that I went from my 20th. row seat and sat in the aisle, third row front. Can't do those things anymore!! This is a great song! Thanks for doing it!

  • Wonderful images to match Dan's wonderful voice! I love the way he sounds on this song! I just love the way he sounds!

    Thank you, brother Bill!

    We miss you, Dan...

  • Wonderful - superbly crafted yet again. Your research to match Dan's lyrics is a true gift.

Sutter's Mill is one of my favourites off HCS - an album where Dan dared to be different and expand his musical talent. I think this is why we all love the man. He pushed the boundaries and laid down so many different styles of music. He didn't remain with one style. Now, that's the sign of a true artist.

  • Another outstanding and vivid presentation of one of Dan's less well-known songs. The images matched the lyrics so well. Thank you, once again, Bill.

  • Thanks Bill!! Outstanding again.....please do more from HCS! It's filled with wonderfully painted stories by Dan. The Outlaw, Wandering shepherd, and Go down easy (which could be about Dan and Jean-is it early autumn yet?)...thank you my friend!!

  • I'm glad you did that one Bill..nice historical images...I've always liked Sutter's Mill since I first heard it in 1985...

I love the High Country Snows album..the music is great!
