@reckonimokie Teresa, it's called a Blue Chip, an extremely hard and slick plastic blade riveted to a steel band. This one is 2 yrs old now and still sounding and playing great. They are expensive but well worth it considering the tone, comfort and longevity. Many of the world's best players use them, Jerry D and Rob I for example.
Many, many years ago I was fortunate enough to play guityar for Ray Charles. This is really a great arrangement. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing it with us!!! Also, I just recently started playing the dobro. I know you tune to EBDGBD on some of your songs. Just curious, are you thinking of that tuning as an Em7? I love the sound and what you do with it.
Playing for Ray must have been quite an experience! Thank you for your comments. I think of the EBDGBD tuning as a G chord (GBD), an E7 (EBD), an Em (EGB) and Em7 (EBDG) depending on what sound and notes I need for the melody or accompaniment. It could also be considered G6, but with the 6 underneath it's not that convincing. In the last chord of this arrangement I do add the bottom string to a Cadd9 to make a C6add9 chord.
@aksliderdobro Great stuff!! I use a tuning similar but sometimes put a middle D gauge string on the 6th string and tune it to E, an octave higher than yourself. This gives a real G6 sound in a western swing sense, and still all the minors and majors. I have an old harmony set up this way. Obviously you lose the low E sound but a pretty cool 6th tuning chordal sound is there to play with. Cheers, jai
I'm using what's called the mid/side stereo technique: a KM 184 condenser for the center, and a Cascade Fat Head ribbon mike for the sides. With phase processing of the ribbon it creates a stereo effect. No pickup. I record the audio at the same time as the video, and replace the camera audio with Pinnacle Studio video editing software. John, as you can see on the fretboard, it's a Scheerhorn.
You play so pretty!

Do you have a vendor for good leather "straps" with quick release? They are hard to find and it was mentioned you might know. Thx.

@reckonimokie I use a Poff. Elderly Instruments sells them. Martin Gross also makes a good dobro strap.
