Very impressive ! Especially for a man. But how can he use his head voice without falsetto? That is very hard !
PS : I saw your website, if it's the same, because it's french, so I'm not sure, but it's called "The Vocalist Studio" too. I'd love to take lessons with you, but I haven't money enough :/
@taldu65"How can he use his head voice without Falsetto"? That is the point of TVS training! You have to understand that Falsetto is not the only kind of sound you can make in the head voice. He is singing in his head voice, the same place where Falsetto vocal mode, however he has trained to not sing Falsetto, but a "twanged distortion". This is what I will teach you when you train at TVS or purchase the TVS training system, The Four Pillars of Singing 2.0. Yes, we are in France.
Could you give me a litle explanation on how to do this distorsion? I'm learning to sing with a teacher, he teaches classical, and he does'nt know the tecnic to teach me rasp vocals, and i really want to learn, because i'm a tenor leggero and i like metal singers that screams, and sometimes they put some distorsion on it, like Rob Halford. How you do this? Thanks!
@Juanmann2k Hey man my advice is to get a lesson with Rob. I've been going to him for only a month now and I've improved tenfold under him. I had a classical teacher for 2 years and learned more in one month of TVS than I did during that. The fact of the matter is classical teachers will teach you classical music. Sounds like you want to sing rock/metal music, which is a different genre, so you need a teacher that teaches those specific genres and understands them. Hope that helps!
No... however, anytime your practice distortion you have to respect it. It can be over done. You need to work up your strength and resilience to it. We never say we can train distortion to be "healthy", we say we can train it to be "healthier".
The heart of the issue is that as a contemporary vocalist, you have to be able to distort. Its an occupational hazard that must be used sometimes. So, as a voice coach, it is my responsibility to insure that students are doing it in a "healthier" way.
how to get that raspy sound in common with the head voice??when i try it..i feel that i change into falsetto....sounds not in that way..what noise have i to think when i try the rasp??isnt it the same way of dirtin that jimmy gnecco uses??please help...=) peace
@BBoyMkl Uhm... no? It is a work flow and it requires training and development. First create a good onset, then you need to get bridged, get placement , then you need to increase compression of your twang contraction and push "down and out" on your respiration to increase the PTP (phonation threshold pressure) in the sub-glottal region of the vocal track. This makes the FVF "rattle" or create noise. my training system shows you how. run a search for "the four pillars of singing" 2.0.

You need to learn how to twang or contract the Aryepiglottic Sphincter & tilt the Thyroid... check out my training system, "The Four Pillars of Screaming!" and you will learn how to get the power you need on the top end... and bridge the break as well.
since you guys are such great singers you will be probably be able to appreciate music from a group called Pain of Salvation, check out the song called Mrs. Modern mother Mary
It has nothing to do with either... he is tilting the thyroid / contracting the epiglottis strong enough to get a healthy rasp. email me for more information.
very good job randy!

So, basically, he's trying to make it sound more like a scream than regular old high note.

now this guy knows his stuff. obviously a dedicated student. His mouth looks a little too open but that's OK for a grasp exercise.

is he getting that rasp by keeping his throat the same shape and adding push from the diaphragm or does it have something to do with vocal fry?
