  • @Nuggedee The size in this video is good for about 10K strikes.

  • does it work wet??

  • @01liquidfires Yes, just wipe it off.

  • what size is this ??

  • @iphoneuploads1 3/8 x 4

  • @goingprepared thanks

  • do all of the mischmetal firesteels on your website perform just as good as the one used in the video. i wanna get one that make the globs of molten metal like you said and not little sparks.

  • @bears7777777 They are not quite like they are in the video anymore, but you can still get a nice shower of sparks.

  • @goingprepared

    different metal-mixture?

    do you ship to germany?

if yes, how much would it be?

    greetings

  • How durable is this ferro steel? How many uses?

  • @hartanto68 the 3/8" will give you about 10,000 strikes.

  • there i can buy a mish metall firesteel like u show in ure vid?

im searching all the net without result, please help me

  • @berti283 the name of the website is in the title of this video bro....

  • I've Watched People Using The Edge As A Knife Maker I Nearly Weep

  • I just received my package today with a few different sizes to test and WOW! Now onto real world testing and then another order will be placed.

  • i went onto your website but i cant find any of these ferro rods that u are showing on the vedio.. can you give me a direct link to where i can get these powerful ferro rods please?

  • @chicken4247 They are no longer made.

  • @goingprepared Do you have any recommendations for comparable products? My shitty Swiss steel doesn't even compare with this thing. I NEED to find something like this.

  • @Aynarchist This exact composition is no longer made, but the current ones we sell are still great performers.

  • What size is this one?, is this the otter?, i wish they had a video showing each size =(

  • @Eso1 It is the badger, 3/8 x 4.

  • Hi, I really like this product.

I would love the get the one with handle too, when will it be in stock again?

  • @Daphnehcy It has been about eight months since we last had them, so I wouldn't count on them anytime soon.

  • i want one!! lol

  • damn, need one of them. Do you deliver to the UK?

  • @morgan191 Yes, we will ship anywhere in the world.

  • has any1 had these breaking on them?? i wanna go as compact as possible to pair it with my izula for an extremely compact and light weight kit but afraid of them breaking on me any1 had any experience with the 1/4" or even smaller?

cheers, always a fan of online retailers who take the time to make video of their products in action and post them, keep it up dude.

  • Hi,

I tried to place an order on your website but was unable to find this product with the handle

  • @cerealaugher We don't have them on the site at the moment. They are sold out, so we disabled them.

  • @cerealaugher We don't have them at the moment. They are sold out, so we disabled them.

  • @cerealaugher We don't have them at the moment. They are sold out, so we disabled them.

  • it won't let me get it on my computer

  • What model firesteel is that? Sorry I meant to say firesteel/ misch metal

  • @GearB87 It is the Badger size with a hardwood handle

  • what model striker is that?

  • THats crazy shower of sparks

  • That is amazing stuff. The carry that has is just astounding. I'll be visiting to get some prices, for sure. Thanks for showing.

  • what size are you using in the video, the 1/2" by 3"?

  • do they last forever?

  • @shelltech83 They will eventually wear out, but it will take several thousand scrapes.

  • Is the purchase of goods above $ 90 is also sent abroad for free?

  • @janek2866 No, international shipping is not free for any amount.

  • ill give you same advice. start from the top. dont use the whole thing, as it will create an arc in the middle, and it will snap.

  • Im on your website and I cant find the one with the handle on it. Do you have the link? I only fine the blank ones

  • @clubtc05 They are out of stock, so we have them disabled for now.

  • how long will it last and if it gets in water will it rust

  • @fierwall5 Life depends on the size and how hard you strike it. 3/8" is generally good for around 10,000 scrapes. It will corrode if you get salt water on it (including sweat), but you can just scrape the corrosion off.

  • Which size rod r u using in this video

  • @anonomous53 3/8" x 4"

  • Hey man u r out of stock on some of the firesteel blanks should I still place my order how long will the backorder take

  • do you sell fire pistons on going gear.com

  • @dinidel123 No, not yet.

  • how old do you have to be to buy fire steal and things like that from going gear.com

  • @dinidel123 There is no age limit, as long as you comply with your local regulations.

  • sorry i meant at 0:02

  • u got luky wit the ctonball. watch at 0:01 and u can see that a spark literally rolled into it

  • ok thanks for this vid, i just ordered one, but ive seen other vids from ppl standing up and doing it and they barley make it to the ground.... how r urs going to teh ground and still bouncing? plz reply, ty

  • BOUGHT ONE OF THESE FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND YOU MUST HAVE CHANGED THEM SINCE MAKING THIS VIDEO AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SHAVE PIECES OFF OR GET GLOBS OF METAL? ITS ROCK HARD? AND BEFORE YOU SAY ,YES I DO KNOW HOW TO USE IT AND HAVE FIVE OTHER FIRESTEELS FROM COMPETITORS.

  • @eminen121 OH REALLY, I THINK IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR TECHNIQUE, EMINEM.

CAN WE STOP USING CAPS LOCK NOW???

  • @Kylef7735 and what technique do you use to shave pieces of metal off like in the video? the 1 i received is rock hard and impossible to shave pieces off .

  • @eminen121 I use a small fixed blade knife, the spine of the blade is very sharp angled, and just push hard.

  • i bought some of these, quartz also works very well to create the sparks if you don't have a knife with you.

  • KOOL! might have to get one

  • who is this knife manufractured by

  • @ikonik69 It is a custom knife that we sell.

  • Dam that does not make sparks it makes meteorites!

  • nice :]

  • How many strikes until it runs out? The light my fire scout has 3,000 - does this match that or is it less because its so intense?

  • @Knathanielmarsh Depends on how hard you strike it. The one in the video is thicker than a Scout, so you can easily get 5,000+ strikes out of it.

  • Which knife do you use? I'd like to buy one of these =D

  • @slum1990 It's called the Sparky. It is a custom knife that I have available every now and then.

  • What grade is it, please?

  • @Rhinoch8 Grade? I'm not sure what you mean.

  • @Rhinoch8 I googled it, and i found "Rare Earth" Thingy that sells whatever grade of Mishmetal (due to percentage of iron in the alloy) in whatever form you wanted to. But as you say you sell anywhere in the world, its okay :)

  • You sell these? Can you send up to Switzerland, europe?

  • @Rhinoch8 Yes, we ship anywhere in the world.

  • Good review. I like the part when you start to scratch the firesteel and the sparks go down to the cotton ball and it starts to burn. I tried to do the same but i didn't can do it ha :). Good luck.

  • @BeatleMan14 Yeah, that was a bit of luck that I just ran with.

  • FireSteel, com is the source, the have them made up in large batches according to their formula and resellers then post them online. So if you have one, it is from the same batch!

  • Comment removed

  • oh my was that luck that you got it on the second try?XDD that looked so pro :D

  • are these firesteels the same as the ones from firesteelcom?!?, cause i own the ones from firesteelcom and its f#$king annoying trying to light a fire with them!!

  • @Eso1 I do not buy from them. I buy direct from the manufacturer.

  • @goingprepared but are the steel compositions the same?, cause yours seem to throw hotter sparks, do they contain magnesium aswell??

  • @Eso1 I honestly have no clue what theirs are made of. Mine do contain some magensium.

  • @goingprepared amazing, that makes no need for an extra magnesium bar, i'm going to be placing an order for a few of these!

  • yeeaaah good fire baby

  • where do you buy the handles??

  • They are normally on my site, but I am completely out of stock on them, so I have them disabled for now.

  • Awesome !

  • cool vid good info :)

  • i find that hacksaw blades work best for smaller ferro rods

  • what is the trick? i have bought one and have tried most every striker none made large busting globs of sparks maybe one small "busting" spark in ten tries. it did make normal sparks though.

  • Just put an order in for a pile of blanks to make ferro rod sets to use as gifts...thanks for such a great product!!!!!

  • Hi.

These are some of the best ferro rods around. Not quite as practical as a blastmatch (tm).

However these ferro rods can ignite birch bark, dry evergreen wood shavings, e.t.c.

I did notice that some parts of these rods that once smooth do not ignite all that well. I roughened up the surface a little with a 32tpi (tooth side) hacksaw blade and the rod started working again.

Going gear now has a custom striker which lasts longer and works better.

  • i just got mine in the mail about 2 hours ago. it works perfect.

  • just bought one, upon seeing the first 10 seconds of the video.

  • How many strikes does the 2" 3/8" thick ferro rod last?

  • great video and smart advertising. i just bought one!

  • if i ordered a gift certificate from your website how long would it take to get it to my e-mail

  • why would you need the foot long one?

  • because the shit works

  • Awesometh...

  • will it work with, say a rock?

  • Sure, if that rock is made out of steel and has a sharpened edge. :)

Seriously though, you do need a sharp, strong edge, since you are trying to scrape off bits of a metallic alloy. I don't even think a shard of rock that had a sharp edge like flint or shale would be able to handle it since both are relatively brittle and cannot handle pressure well.

  • I have these firesteels. So far I have tried Jasper and Quartz and they both work well and send "sparks" to the ground.

  • Anything that is hard enough to scrape shavings off the rod will work.

  • which end did you use of the hack saw blade the seraded or smooth

  • Smooth side. I sand it down to remove the protective paint.

  • I love the fact that you offer USPS first class international mail... it's way cheaper than getting it shipped... now i'm definitely gonna order the Badger...

Thanks for such a great site!!

  • Wow that's a really good firesteel... probably gonna order that one in the near future

  • These are great i have a blank! I bought a Light my Fire and it took a really long time to light up some toilet paper!

  • I just bought a light my fire firesteel and its awsome! does every flint make those globs of metal?

  • Yes, all of the ones I sell have the same composition.

  • how do you make misch metal rods like those

  • does that damage your knife at all? like the burn marks?

  • No, those wipe right off. Every time I think it is damaged, it either wipes or scrapes off.

  • Excellent video. I would like to oder some of them. Could you please tell me the length and width of the rod in this video you are using. Thanks so much. Is mischmetal the same as a regular fire steel?

  • The rod in the video is a 3/8" x 4" (Badger) rod with a zebra handle. Mischmetal firesteels are a little softer than the ones that Light my Fire uses, but their sparks burn much longer since they are really little molten globs of metal.

  • I just bought some of these.

    Can't wait to get them.

    5 Stars!

    MP76

  • Very cool, ive always had problems witht he standard firesteel, I like this one much better. I may need to upgrade my kits.

  • I bought some rods from these guys and I am in Norway. Excellent service and they threw in a survival whistle for free : )

  • MORE VIDIOS

    PLEASE

  • Well done 5*

  • Very nice demonstration.

  • Wow, that's pretty awesome. I dont think I've seen anything like this before.

Do you guys also ship oversea?

  • Sure, I'll ship anywhere that USPS will ship, which is just about everywhere in the world.

  • I do not, but I could have one made. Send me a message through the store and we'll work something out.

  • do you sell a 1/2x4 rod with a handle on it? And thank for your vids !

  • thats pretty impressive

  • for some reason this video is loading VERY slow.

  • It's brand new and might still be processing. Seems to be loading OK for me now.
