Does a game NEED to be unique? No. Should it? HELL YEAH! Fun too, obviously. New games just look good, copy overused stuff and - most important - have good marketing. For example, I'd play Septerra Core over any Final Fantasy game or Age Of Conan (even Tibia rly) over World of Warcraft...

I would also include for Indie games the need to communicate with your players, to keep it clean from cheats, a quality wiki and forum, and continuous updates as best you can. I've tried a few over the years and inevitably they end up with a shop of some kind as donations aren't enough to survive in the long run.

personally, I don't think that 2D MMO in the video question can make a lot of money or any money at all. Because most of the full time working guy won't be attracted to it and some other kids/teenagers may like to play it for free but you just hard to make money from them, unless it has some special thing that is not found in anywhere else. It is like Eve online, I don't like this game and its game company, but I still play it because it is the only non-dog-fight space MMO out there.

a real game is when the game itself have meaning full ending forget about paying attention on voilence if the game doesnt have consistent storyline you dont know where the characers came from making a game is same like making novels good graphic doesn't mean its gonna be a great game , great game doesn't mean its gonna be unique all you had to focus is controls and what that game has to offer simple to understand really
