Biggest waste of a hotel in Vegas IMO, The Luxor could still be awesome if they put some money back into it and got a person in charge who cared about making it what it was supposed to be. The place is not even 20 years old and man has it fallen...
Great video. Too bad the Fontainebleau went bust after plopping down a 68 story hotel next to the Riviera. Must be a big black hole at night on the strip between there and the (closed for now) Sahara.
For as much shit as people give the mafia Vegas was 10000 times better when they were running things. Even though they skimmed money they were still making more money than the pencil pushing harvard grads that run things today.
Vegas will never be like it used to be. Things changed for the worst.
the amusement parks was an effort to change Vegas' image from a seedy, mafia influenced debauched epicenter, to more of a family friendly environ. That strategy flopped, which prompted Vegas to reposition itself as the 'city of sin'. The slogan "what happens in vegas stays in vegas" is probably the most brilliant marketing angle of all time. It completely defines Vegas. I for one love Las Vegas, and cant imagine how anyone can long for the old days, when it was a watered down touristy spot.
I Miss this theme Park.. I remember the time I went back n 2001 n found out it was gone :( only now the memories last . I dont even have any pics of me in the park :(
i was little and it was fun.....i remember there was this hilarious pirate show with pie throwing and stuff......i know for sure it wasnt at the mirage
What a great video. I love Las Vegas but my first trip was 2006. I would have lived to see it in the 90's when the Luxor had it's laser water feature out front and the MGM had it's original theme. I'd also like to have seen the Excalabur dragon feature. Ah well, not everything changes for the better.
I think what this video shows is that they've cut alot of the fun things out in favor of money making ways. In other words, the other fun attractions from 1994 were not making money for them as much, so they traded it in for something that makes them money. That's a very materialistic viewpoint and way to do things, but that's the decision they made. In other words, they cut out the heart and sentimental parts for money. This shows the materialistic side to these businesses. Sad
RF, Hi, it would be wonderful if you could do this for every Las Vegas Hotel. A really indepth before and after, kind of like imposing pictures on top of the 1994 to 2010.
I've lived here all my life and I used to love to go to MGM. Now it sucks. They took a lot of fun things out. Like in Ceasers there used to be motion rides and the best toy store in the world (FAO Schwartz). Now everything is gone. They plan on building another water park called Las Vegas Wet but I don't think they have even started constructing it. I miss the good old days.
I miss the big lion, and you didnt even walk into its mouth, you went in between its legs, stupid superstitious chinese bullshit, and the theme park was cool
Yeah, we stayed at the MGM for our vacation and went to the MGM Grand Adventure amusement park back in the summer of 1996. I remember the park had this inside rollercoster (simular to Space Mountain, but very short) which was pretty fun. The funny thing is that, we want to LV again in the summer of 1999, when they had expanded the rollercoster (wasn't an inside ride anymore) outside, made the ride much bigger and longer. Three years later, they closed the park down. That was a waste IMO.
Wow! That was really good. Thanks for making/posting! I only first got to LV in 2001, the shots of the amusement park are great and I had no idea there was a water ride in the Luxor! Good stuff!

@Skymoon99 Same here. These newer hotels that are sleek, modern glass and steel buildings may as well be bank buildings.

Unfortunately, corporate Disney was a big part of the reason why the MGM Grand amusement park was torn down ):

Great video and Images of the Grand Adventures theme park. Love the then-and-now comparisons! Great Work!
I've been here 25 years and it seems there is not alot of Archival footage to document the many changes that happen in Vegas year-to year.
