most of the actors in this film are northerners, so you should be impressed they bothered to put on any london accent at all, be it north or east. Steadman's a scouser, thewlis and horrocks are both from blackpool, broadbent's from lincolnshire. my kids have different accents because they are in different friendship groups, it's not a big issue.
Nicola is a totally unlikeable character. When she called herself a burden, all I could think was, Yea, yuh are. They'd be a happier family as a whole without her in their lives.
@henrycaville@plhokko Am from Hammersmith (which is West London ) and even I know that a North London accent is different to Cockney East London ( just as West and south Londoners are different to each other) simply put...NORTH Londoners EAST Londoners SOUTH Londoners and WEST Londoners, both in slang and accent are different from each other, to which ONLY those that ARE from LONDON or I guess work in London would know. And I guess this would apply to any big city in the rest of Britain.
"D'you know he's up at 6 every morning, slogging his guts out in a job he hates - which is more than you do - and he still comes home at the end of the week with sod all..."
This heart-wrenching scene in the middle of a bittersweet comedy is the most effective tear-jerker of all time. I cry every time I watch it and it is a major reason why this is my favourite movie ever.
@MickeyLove01 I try not to pick movies apart-it always struck me as wankery.Jane Horrocks is more visually appealing than my underwear stains, though.Besides, mine are really one dimensional and very derivative.
The most realistically moving moment in cinema I have ever seen. - from Alison Steadman. I cried buckets and still do. But Horrocks ruined it with her gurning, monkey-face mockney.
if you actually knew fuck all about this film?? you,d know that its set in north london!! so dont comment on something you know fuck all about mug!! going by your age! i think you hadnt even popped out of your mum when this was shot?? so fucking do one ya prick!!

I'd give Nicola a huge hug, she looks like she needs it.

Unfortunate timing and editing - the brilliant scene with Nicola and Wendy needed showing completely.

@henrycaville well I've lived in North London my whole life and there are plenty of people who speak with a cockney accent around here...

I can't believe all the babbling crap people are making the effort to type here. Stick to analysing the stains on your underwear for fucks sake....
