It doesn't matter if you are touched or not in high school or college. The holder (#87) had his knee on the groud and they should not have gotten a touch down. That said, there is no replay in high school and the opposing team should have known better than to stop when the whistle hadn't blown.
Onward, onward, go you Rockets fight for victory. And we'll remember that our motto stands for honor, loyalty. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! We will always, ever be true; to our colors red, white and blue. Fight, fight, for John Glenn High and the victory is ours tonight. Go team FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT Go team FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT J G H S Goooooooo Glenn!!!
@Thatguy6995 John Glenn stopped being a stellar football program ever since Chuck Gordan left in 2004. Not to mention being replaced by Todd Deluca who let the popular players run the team. Sucked playing in 05 because his son who was the QB pretty much ran the team the way he wanted. Probably why he got fired lol
actually there was to many people on the field... as you can see the players came on the field before the touchdown... CALL IT BACK! hahahaha just kiddingg
Cool move but the players don't deserve the credit. The guy on the sideline (coach maybe?) was yelling at the players to pick up the ball and go, so they did. The players had no idea about this rule either.
Regardless of the "knee down" rule there should have been a penalty for too many players (and coaches) on the field which would result in a re-kick if the penalty is accepted.
The holder is not subject to the "knee down" rule, or else field goal kicks would be dead when the holder caught the snap with one knee on the ground. What this situation brings up is whether the holder is still the "holder" after the ball is kicked and is blocked back in his arms. So if you believe his knee is down this is the question.
Any dumb person can see that his knee was down the ref dident have enough balls to say he called the play dead wow how dumb can he be and all of you youtubers that say it was a touchdown and there was players and coaches on the field.....
ROFL OMG i dont even go to that school n im happy. that was funny as hell. i mean finding out that u blocked a game deciding feild goal n then realizing that u let the opposing team score. now thats rich
I play bass in john glenn marching band. :] It was really an amazing game. The entire band was all putting their instruments down, and then saw that the goal had been scored, and we had to get the instruments up really quick to play the fight song. Haha. :D
This is the key everyone: Like the coach said, The HEAD REF WAS BEHIND THE HOLDER. He didn't even move, He had the best angle....better than GOD himself.
Heads up play on the Kicking coach; everyone wants to make the excuse "well his knee was down". Take a lost like you take a win...well after the play is dead that is.
correct me on this but it seemed to me #87 DID have the "live" ball, but by high school rules, his knee was on the ground and an opponent did touch him, so, by rule, the ball carrier was down and the play was over....right????
You are right. The person defense doesn't have to touch them either. Once your knee hits the ground the play is over. It is pretty close whether his knee was on the ground when he had the ball. Interesting.
it's all about possession. Looking at it over and over again, it looks like his knee could be off the ground while having possession of the ball. It's not clear when he has possession, or when he doesn't. But you are correct they could have easily called it the other way. I was glad to see the refs talked it over before coming to conclusion
even if his knee was down, it is ok because the holder starts the play with his knee down and never got up until he picked the ball up. That is leagal
Had the refs blown the whistle, then the play would be dead. Period.
Coaches are supposed to teach players that the play goes on until the ref blows the whistle. Football referees have been under scrutiny for whistling a play dead too fast. The refs just stood there after the blocked kick. knowing it was still a live ball.
Sucky way to lose, but a learning lesson. Kaboobie!
He wasn't down, the only people who dispute this are youtubers who like to to go around and discredit things they don't like. The referee was right behind the play, you can see him jerk up before he picks up the ball. And yes, I agree it would have been legitimate for them to call the off-setting penalties, but its a judgment call and they made the correct call in not effecting the outcome off a play on something so miniscule.
plymoths coach was right..glenn didnt win it... plymoth lost it cuz their players are all too fucking dumb to know that the blocked kick was still a live ball..then go off celebrating like a bunch of fags..i hope tehy all feel really gay now when they watch themselves lose over and over on national television...
Ball in holder's hand whil knee was down, ball kicked, ball blocked, ball picked up by holder as his knee is off the ground, runs, scores touchdown, ballgame.
his knee is obviously off the ground, only a complete idiot would not be able to see it. And as far as the too many men, it would likely be off-setting, though in my experience in high school they usually don't call it if a someone is barely on the field 30 yards behind the play.
I hate to burst your bubble, but the man that scooped the ball had his knee down on the ground as he grabbed the ball. He was down as soon as he touched the ball. The team that made a great effort in blocking the field goal got RIPPED!
Bubble not burst... the holder can have his knee on the ground for a field goal attempt. In high school, he must lift it before handing off or passing. This situation is probably a grey area. However, I'm not sure you could say his knee wasn't off the ground when he picked up the ball. Bottom line... one team played to the whistle, one team didn't.
he can touch the ball while his knee is on the ground until the ball is kicked. after that, he cannot touch the ball unless he takes his knee off the ground first. clearly he is down. end of story. plymouth wins
Worst case of officiating ever. He should be down by contact., intentional or incidental makes no diff. 2 more calls should have been made: (1)too many men, (2) and coach on the field. Last night Tulsa coach bumped a ref just barely on the field. Was called for a penalty. No if's
Its really funny so many people look at the same thing and see something diff. So you see one thing I see something diff. I along with a number of others believe his knee was down as he was in contact with # 11, game over Even if not, even you agree technically It could be a redo, I have seen that call made a number of times in high school games and at the college level last night where a penalty was called, if so a 5 yd penalty would have been called before the touchdown. No TD.
You know... if the other team had any sense, I would have screamed foul for too many men on the field for John Glenn because after all the refs said that technically the play was not over. Yet everyone on the side lines was walking on the field.
Alumni from that highschool, here. I had a gym class with 87, Wilton. Cool to see this, finally! I've heard all about it. It made it to Yahoo's home page.
The rule is that once the ball is kicked, the holder cannot touch the ball with his knee touching the ground or it is a dead ball. Great play though over all, just shows that you gotta know every situation that might arise during a game.
As a holder you are allowed to have a knee on the ground and handle the ball and it not be a dead ball. Unless you stand up and then hit the ground. This is clearly a legal touchdown!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!

And his knee wasnt down when he picked up the ball. If you look closely, his knee actually hits the other player.. thus making it a legal play.
GREAT awareness by the refs. These guys need to be commended for that. Not blowing the whistle in the heat of the moment was superb.
