@MrMetsplayer1 The great Rossini was very impressed by the music of the young Sullivan, who was always invited to his home every time Sir Artur visit Paris. classical music with no dislikes.
Alfred Cellier was musical director and conductor for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the time of the premieres of H.M.S. Pinafore (in the UK) and The Pirates of Penzance (in the US). According to the Wikipedia article for Cellier, he wrote the overtures to both productions, based of course on Arthur Sullivan's music. The Wikipedia article includes references for this. Robert Russell Bennett had the same responsibility in preparing productions of musicals by Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers.
This is a really fun song, but I play double bass in orchestra and we're doing this, it's soo boring, we have Cs for so long :( love listening to it though!
I'm teching this right now, and it's pretty fun! We have a lot of talented people up at Utah State :)

It's good, but it could have been done better. EG, sounding more fun at the start.

W just performed this, I was in 2nd violin. I loved every part of it. Shame we only were doing 3 performances, I could do it for a year :D

A fine performance!
#BjornPalmen: A question of of taste, I think the tempi are quite correct.
#mitchell36able: Usually an overture is at first slow tempo(introduction) --->faster tempo (the "main business")

The music in this recording sounds strangely timid and feeble, more accents and a quicker tempo would have done Sullivan's music more justice.

It seems to be going slow - and then it goes fast .
We need more G & S in this DC & NG UK
