  • Great short film. I am a new filmmaker and i was struggling with the choice of camera to use. After reading about the camera you used and watching this, I think i am going with the camera you used.

  • @MrTntw in my opinion, any of the DSLR cameras produce similar results. I have gone with Canon and stuck with it cuz I am used to working with the images from their DSLRs.

  • fresh bro

  • how did you do the intro...Amazing...amazing...amazing !

  • @izzypizzy1 lol it was food coloring in water in a glass bowl. Thanks!

  • Mannn this looks like a hollywood movie!! :D It's perfect...What equipment did you used, and with what PC did you edited this movie?

  • @svircheto thank you so much. I am glad to still see comments on this film after a couple of years.

    Canon 7D

    Nikon 35mm f2.8

    Mac

    Final Cut Pro

    Shure voice mic

It was filmed and edited for an office short...we only had about four days to get it done. though very unprofessional in acting, I still like watching it. Thanks!

    -Tracey

  • more movies keep it going

  • yea this looks like movies u see in the theater... keep it up

  • @burberryplaya007 thank you!

  • direction definately had its moments... terrible actors but I won't hold that against you or them they aren't pros

  • @lil0ze thank you...yes they are office friends and not actors by any stretch of the imagination. It was just a fun film to do with work friends.

  • yep, very cool video.

  • I enjoyed the film very much! i noticed that while croping the film it seems as though relevant information was missed, like the nurses reaction in one of the shots and others. The prosthetic used for the vamp bite was sub -par, but overall-a great short and the Canon 7D really looks great!

  • @DirectorMBG that's for sure about the cropping. This short was so hurried that it was hard to have time to look over things like that. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

  • I thought this short movie was good. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing more from you.

  • @HakjamEntertainment thank you so much! Very encouraging.

  • Nice one! good job. I knew the last jump was coming but jumped anyway. That's what I love about horror.

  • @tkmslee Your short is WAY better than movieguy101's. :) Keep up the good work man. :)

  • I gave my previous comment a thumbs down. Please erase it. I didn't say what I needed to say -- first, let me just start out by saying that you have decent performances in this film and that the cinematography and sound elements are just fine. I have no complaints with anything that you achieved on set. In fact, bravo, well done. The problems I had with the film were mostly in terms of a few redundant moments in the editing. With just a few tweaks this film can go from a 6 to an 11.

  • I find nothing wrong with this movie and I thought it was great! Keep up the good work!

  • Good work! I'm a new 7d owner myself. This short is very inspiring

  • I'm seeing a lot of problems with this short. First of being that audio editing is horrible, there needs to be more soft transitions between tracks. Also, angles were a major problem and some shots just did not seem to be relevant to the shot. It seemed as though you were just trying to make the run time of the video longer. Next time get better actors and really focus on the building of the visual "forte" instead of trying to show everyone you have a nice camera...

  • @movieguy101 No, those are surface problems, movieguy. There are problems with this film but they are mostly with the script. Don't get wrong, tkmslee, I appreciated your short a lot. You definitely know how to use dialogue effectively and how to tell a story visually. The problem was in the length of the short. There were definitely scenes in this short that could have been cut that would have given things a tighter focus. If you're interested, I'd be willing to give you a full rundown.

  • @movieguy101 WTF This Short is so much better than what you have I think you are just a jealous fuck! because he has higher quality overall fuck yourself movieguy101

  • Great lighting and camera work, nicely done.

  • what did you use for recording the audio and was it hard to synch up with the video?

  • @Wildstang05 we used a voice mic with the Zoom H4 recorder. It was a challenge...but at the time, our team had no experience with post audio so yes, it was a challenge. I could do it with my eyes closed now and the quality would be much better. It's definitely one of those things you learn as you go.

  • Awesome short. I liked thru-the-door shot of patient bitten. Black n white montage was coo, too. -Buck

  • vampires again.... but i like the camara quality!

  • What other equipment did you use with the 7D like lens, steady cam, or any filters in editing?

  • @GatewayXl just a Nikon 35mm manual lens and a homemade shoulder rig. It wasn't very good and kinda uncomfortable but it did the trick.

  • Dear Sir What do you would like to recommend to me the best movie maker software of Canon EOS 7D?

  • This proves that a good camera is not synonymous for a good movie.

  • What objectives do you use?

  • @hunpuntoes Nikon 25mm f2.8

  • WOW. this was amazing. i hope to get this camera soon. i have a sony hdrxr500v... and its sad that a real CAMCORDER cant even compare to this amazing slr.

  • how many camera did u use

  • @eyemeal just one camera.

  • @tkmslee woooow just 1? r u kiddn me? how r u able to get so many angles shots.

  • @mic4rap some of the scenes were shot twice or three times for the multi angles. Not the most practical but that's all we could do.

  • Honda Accord ftw.

  • Very impressive work. I'm curious what software did you use to give it that movie feel while indoors? and what effects did you adjust? Very brilliant.

  • is it even raining in the opening sequence?

  • @AZhizhin no...it's a LOW budget film dude!

  • Very nice... Wow

  • Love the quality of the movie, sound indeed does suck!

I just don't believe it is raining in the start of the movie.

That is really a pity. But the rest i like it.

  • Wow, I sure hope this wasn't the video that won. Because this was terrible.

  • did you use an atached mic?

  • rain lol

  • This is fantastic!!! How much footage can you shoot per card on those Cannon EOS 7D's?

  • great job.. it was just spooky enough to freak me out.

  • please keep making films!

  • Very nice movie, congratulations !

  • omg i jumped up my seat on the moment that girl screamed (3.15) :D hehe very good job, perfect color correction, good, only you made it 21:9 and sometimes the heads are being cut off, but on the other side it feels more like a movie. music is perfect,

  • NICE! Can't wait to get my 7D

  • Great job, fantastic to see what the 7d is capable of.

  • Great job :) It was pretty good, not so scary(cause im use to horror movies xD)

  • i hope the RED one scarlet lives up to this!

  • Which lenses did you use?

  • A manual Nikon 35mm lens.

  • in post production how does one choose the proper aspect ratio for their film?

  • you can put Nikon lenses on the Canon????

  • @tkmslee u can uses nikon lenses on a canon ?

  • @jason0998 with an adaptor you can use any lenses you want!

  • @tkmslee thats ungodly. lol jk.

  • OMG!!

    XD

    Great Work !!

(and INCREDIBLE Quality from EOS 7D)

    Greetings!

  • Thanks!

  • that was pretty well done....

  • Very nice. Great shooting. However, the 2:35 cropping is too severe for the way it was shot IMO. But good anyway.

  • good job

  • nice.

  • She's got fat lips

  • That popping noise you hear... fix it in post. You can do this simply by zooming in really close to the sound clip in FCP and cutting off the very end of her voice. Next you want to level it so it drifts off and not so harsh when it stops. Then you want to have the background noise brought up just slightly when there is a pause and this will ensure there are no pops in your sound.

Other then that, great work. I love horror movies!

  • this is really nice. how were you able to record audio? your previous comment said you used an external mic, does that mean you can plug a mixer into the 7d? and were you able to monitor how the audio sounded using headphone? im just wondering, because im looking to buy a 7d, but im afraid of how id be able to record audio. i have a nice external mic, so what im concerned most about is recording and monitoring audio. hope u can help, thanks. and again, great short

  • We used a Rode voice mic and the H4 system. Double system is necessary with these DSLRs.

  • please explkain how do you connect adouble system to the mic in of the 7d. can I record with a condencer mic only ? and pass the output from the mixer in to the mic in of the canon 7d ?

  • Awesome! I like the colors! the anamorphic view can get some help since it was added in post production. other that that, you made me jump! The only thing is that after jumping I expected the last scene to be as jumpy too, which it wasnt. Overall amazing work, I just added 7d to my lineup and learning it now. Thanks.

  • Thanks! Yeah I realized that offsetting each scene for the letterbox should have been done.

  • looks great! what kind of lens?

  • A Nikon Nikkor 35mm

  • Great short. Do have an HD version on Youtube that I can watch?

  • sweeeeeet any movie that can make my jump have a 5 stars for me. i gots to get me one of those canon 7d lmao good job and the stop

  • I like, but exactly what did you use for sound?

  • I used a voiceover mic rigged to a pole (not the best but all we had).

  • The Cinematography and Grading were awesome, but I think you need to work on your storytelling techniques; I felt as if you were being unclear on what the little girl was turning into and why they were there. I can see it was obviously because of sore teeth, but there was something about this which seemed hazy to me.

  • All shortfilm is editing with FCP???? Your use a other software for film Look???

Apple Prores 422 only for FCP 6 & 7, I using FCP 5, when I need export to editable clips MPEG stream clip not have this codec. Where I can donwnload or I need upload a new version??

  • hahaha! GREAT job Tracey!!!! looks amazing!!

  • That looks very great, what did you do in the post production? color correction or such effects?

I would like to know how to achieve film look like effect! thanks :)

  • The footage looks great, what kind of ligtht kit did you work with?

  • I worked with the rig from rng35. It is a pretty nice cage system that weighs the camera down well for stability.

  • Very nicely done! As a filmmaker my major suggestion would be to work on the sound design more. I think it needed more ambiance. Simply recording 30sec of the room tone or record ambiance.

Anyway I'm glad I watched this, because I am very curious about the 7d and am curious to know it handles shooting short films.

  • Thank you for you great help i followed your steps to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the footage to prores 422 ,but when i drag into the FCP,it says "For best performance your sequence and External Video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing" and "Attention -This clip does not match this sequence's setting or any of your sequence presets" I set FCP as same as ME which is propes 422 . pls. help appreciate it.

  • Are you using FCP 6? That doesn't happen to me.

  • im using FCP7

  • HI tkmslee,Thanks for your help,i already finish my first work

,it just looks great, and i m exacted about it. but i tried several times to upload on YouTube. Unfortunately it was failed, i exported Apple Prores 422 and the video is about a min. could u help me with that thanks

  • Try to export 1280 x 720 422, then use that file to export from quicktime a file for youtube at h264 and best quality.

  • you rock!!!! I can't wait to get filming with my 7D

  • Hey , that is the awesome movie. Love it , and could u tell me

How to easy setting the FCP for 7D camera bcz i m kind a new to this and try to learn it . appreciate that . and looking forward you future works.

  • Before you do anything with your footage, use quick time or MPEGstreamclip and re-encode all of your footage to prores422. This makes it easier to edit and color grade. Then if you are using FCP 6 or later, you can drag the footage onto your time-line and it will automatically configure the time-line to your clip.

  • Congratulations awesome film......how did you export from FCP to get such a great quality film?

  • Export to prores422 for best quality first.

  • wow! great!.....what setting did u use ??? HD or full HD ? 25p or 24p ? and how did you upload it ?

wich format ??? thanks ...really good work!

  • I used 24p HD on the in camera settings. I exported a 1280 x 720 prores version first then a smaller one for youtube. I think it comes out cleaner that way.

  • Really great short film well done you! It's these kinds of videos that made me order my 7D. Quick question for you really, as you mentioned you used a prime lense for the shoot. Can you put any Canon prime lens on to the camera? I ask this because I just tested a nikon prime lense with a digital SLR nikon camera and it kept flashing up saying lens not attached, so was unable to use it. So before I try getting some canon prime lenses on ebay for the canon I just wanted to check. Thanks :)

  • I used a Nikon 35mm manual prime (pretty old) and used a converter ring (cheap on eBay). The camera does have a warming that comes up saying "make sure you have a lens attached" but all you have to do is hit the live view button again and you're good to go. It doesn't register any information but you can still use them just fine. Not sure about how to adapt older Canon lenses though. Good luck and let me know how it works out for you.

  • Thank you very much for the fast reponce, very much appreciated :). I am guessing though if the converter ring damages the camera in any way the warranty becomes void. Hmmm its a tough one. I dont mind getting some normal canon prime lenses but cant seem to see any nice fast ones on ebay. I heard I have to get EF ones for it to work with the 7D?

  • I have the 24-70 f2.8 attached on my 7D and it's doing a great job as ever. I think all EF and EF-S lenses are fully compatible with the 7D.

  • scared fuck out of me when she screamed because of the light :(

  • Great to see the 7d used on a genuine short. Nicely done.

  • Thanks! I vowed to resist the temptation of posting dull test footage :)

  • what did you use for audio recording? A separate mixer?

  • We used the H4 recording device and a simple 1" diaphragm condenser mic...didn't have a shotgun available.

  • You are a credit to dslr filmmaking. way to set it off with the 7D

  • Thanks for the compliments...we had a great team!

  • And also what lens did u use??

  • We used a Nikon 35mm manual lens for the whole shoot.

  • Sr. I love your work it is amazing and I was trying to find the lense you say you used but too many of them exist can you give the exact nikon lense used to film this shot...it would be be a great favor..thanks alot...and God Bless

  • Sure. Here is all the info on the front of this lens: Nikon Lens E Series 1800247 1:2.5. If you use it on the 7D it end up being more like a 50mm lens but the nice thing about it is you can still get pretty close to the subject before you are at minimum distance.

  • What editing program did u use?

  • Final Cut for everything.

  • love your work man! congrats!

one question, was that aliasing/moire on the wall when going up the stairs at the begining or maybe was just the youtube compression? thanks in advance.

  • I'm not 100% sure which moment you are referring to but as I look at the original footage I don't notice anything.

  • There will always be a little noise, aliasing, moire because of YT compression and the fact that you are watching a scaled version.

  • ok great, i was just asking because i really leaning forward on buying one of these cameras, and what i saw it's practically unoteceable but since i've been reading the aliasing could be a problem i examined it a couple of times and asked the Q' maybe it was my own paranoia.. thanks again!

  • Angel, I have used DV and HD cams that still moire so it's a problem with compression with a lot of cams. I always avoid things that will cause this like fine patterns. For $1700 I just figure i can afford to avoid things and work withing the limitations while still getting great images.

  • sweet, right now i own a hvx200 i use it with a letus35 adaptor but its too big/time consuming/problematic to work with in a extremely low crew and budget. I was thinking on waiting for the RED scarlet but it's taking too long so i'm planing on selling the hvx200 and work with the canon 7d for the time being since the image looks really nice in your film. Im glad you did an actual film and not just another nature test hehe 'cause now im almost sold on this camera.

  • congrats for you movie!! I love it. I have the same camera 7D. Did you record the whole shot with manual focus ? which frame didi u use ? did you use some effects in post production? great job man!

  • Yes manual focus was used. We used 24p frame rate and the effects of the eyes were done in photoshop. I'm glad you liked it!

  • great job! love the coloring choices that were made.

  • nice one:) but wich lenses did you use?

  • Thanks. We used a Nikon 35mm f2.8 for the whole shoot.

  • With wich one adapter? ;)

  • Yes I used a cheap Nikon to EOS adapter from eBay.

  • awesome!

  • Thanks Mike!

  • Great film man! I really like the 2.35:1 crop. And the look is a amazing. You didn't use natural light, huh?

  • No no natural light. The spaces were very confining and we could only fit one 600w with softbox and had to rely on crappy office lighting to help out. Color grading helped balance it out in the end. Thanks for your kind comments!

  • Congratulations for your short film! Great cinematography.

Did you use a viewfinder or was filmed just with the lcd screen?

  • Thanks! I didn't use a viewfinder. I wish I had though...I think it will be essential to get perfect focus. There are a couple of scenes that had the focus in the wrong spot.
