1942 and COD1 were developed simultaneously. Neither ripped each other off. COD was heavily inspired by Medal of Honor because Infinity Ward was started by ex-developers at 2015 Inc, the guys who did Allied Assault, by far the best game in the series. Battlefield, up until Bad Company, was a COMPLETELY different type of game, with its sequel being heavily inspired by the changes introduced in MW1&2.
