Thanks for sharing this clip from the "Year of the Child" concert i do have to admit i was there in full Numan dress black hair and eyeliner on and this was just before the New Romantic's were on the rise and i don't care what anyone says but Gary made synth pop acceptable the man is a God, but he does need to release a dvd with all the old vids and gigs such as this to say thanks to the long term fans as myself. BIG LOVE mick
Actually this is not a live clip. It was mimed for the "Year Of The Child" TV concert. The clip they are playing to was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon a couple weeks prior to this being filmed. The Hammersmith Odeon footage of "Metal" does not exist, but you can listen to this verison on Living Ornaments. Read any Numan biography and they will tell you the same.
I don't believe what you say don't care if you were there oldcopbullishit I believe what you say and you can tell here it his him singing and not a backing tape I know I am a musician, especially because of Numan
yay! I heard the live version first, the studio one sounded thin by comparison, tho I learned to like that one as well. that snare roll intro is so classic!
@steerpikey I agree, that's so strange

This performance isn't live. Sorry to rain on everyones parade. Great song though!

Of course its live..its nothing like the album version...and yes..Its a great song!!

Read any Numan biography and they will tell you the same.

finding stuff like this is what I like best about You Tube.

Is it me or is that not Cedric Sharpley on the drums?
Tazz77 5 years ago
It's not. It's Numan's uncle Jess Lidyard. Cedric hold the sticks differently.
crosspaths10 4 years ago
Jess Lidyard is also white...Cedric isn't.

Nine Inch Nails covered this song and made it more modern. But it sounds great in its original state.

Synths and gary at their best, should have been a single.

yay! I heard the live version first, the studio one sounded thin by comparison, tho I learned to like that one as well. that snare roll intro is so classic!
wonkeaux 5 years ago
Great song, should have been released as a single as it is every bit as strong as Cars.
