I think Reznor's drinking and drug addiction started mainly during the Self Destruct Tour and got worse as time went on around the Manson record time and the death in his family. So doing soundtracks for different movies got his mind back into music but still too fucked in his head to get started with another full NIN album. which he stated in an interview " the Fragility Tour felt more forced cause I was sick at the time" I do agree about the songs and Reznor changing on stage, hes 44 now
