Lol RAY'S armor is really poor, even a regular tank might have a chance against RAY. REX'S armor is unbelievable, has like 20 missiles, a heat laser, and battling guns... even REX can go against the Shagohod itself REX FTW!!!
Well...Rex Body was already very damaged from the last battle even so, its armor is fucking hard enough to take on Ray...Rex also was kinda modified by Otacon to put it even on Ray in terms of sheer agility and mobility, now Rex can kick, jump and Dash. Rex Weapons are stronger than Ray in terms of fire power; It counts with missiles, bombs, machine guns and a laser.
Ray is far more advanced in specs than Rex and could destroy Rex but in the End rex proved to be better.
I still can't get over how Snake PILOTS a Metal Gear in his game. His whole career has been defined by him being the one to always destroy these monstrosities, not USE them.

The ray used here is infact the Marines one, it has been modified with some stuff from the Outer Haven versions too but is without a doubt the one from the second game just with a few new batteries in it. So looks like most people here are wrong as it is the best one made better and Rex still out done it.

The Rex is more Dangerous than Ray, he can lunch more Heat missile, he got two gatling to shot ahead, he got un LASER CANON, the ray got only an hydrolic cutter, "loolll"
Ray got Heat missile, but he can only shot them by two, the rex can do a barrage shot with them, and the stingers of the ray are dangerous, but not than the HEAT
@SSCaero Considering the fact that it would still have the nuke and not a huge metal bullet or other metal projectile, shooting at Ray would also kill Rex and Snake with it..........

You have to remember that Otacon reprogrammed REX to match RAY's speed. Chances are, he gave REX those 'kick' attacks to make up for the loss of the rail gun and Radome. RAY may have been designed to destroy REX, but Snake had one of the designers of REX on his side. I daresay RAY would have had a very high advantage against REX without Otacon's help.
Also notice that RAY is designed for travel underwater, in a "Liquid", whereas REX was designed for land-based usage, a "Solid".
Additionally, REX was supposedly inferior, yet still won over the "superior" RAY, just like how Snake beat Liquid 9 years prior, despite having all the recessive genes.

My favorite Metal Gear was definitely Rex, but i honestly don't think Rex would've won that fight against Ray. namely because Rex was a Beaten bruised and without a Radome. but Rex HAD to win since Snake is the protagonist. not to mention Snake had No experience with Metal Gear and Ocelot had plenty of experience. but if Rex was at 100% he would've Beasted Ray... there's nothing in Rays arsenal that can break Rex's armor with a Radome.
it truly depends on whose controlling the Metals Gears. after all Solid Snake is a person known for making the impossible possible.. but if it was your average Joe in each Metal Gear i believe the battle could've went any way.
Otacon was just informing Snake on what he could do with Rex he wasn't actually controlling it. But Ocelot has massive experience with controlling Metal Gears. Plus creating something and having the experience of using it is significantly different...

My favourite is also REX. But as for REX not winning the fight against RAY logically, it`s worth noting that firstly, both RAY and REX, in this battle, shared almost identical attacks. AT Missiles, Machineguns, and variations on beams, REX having the laser, and RAY having the water cutter. However, REX`s "streetfighter" program allowed it to surpass it`s original limitations, due to Liquid not being aware of it, and it using REX`s armor as a weapon in itself. Its true that Rex streetfighter program is something to watch out for. but i think the battle can still go both ways.. lets see let me try to explain it. like for one Rex armor can't be touched but say if Ray was to use the WaterCutter on the Radome! unlike a sword and missles a WaterCutter would've destroyed the radome in one shot forcing once again the cockpit to open. ......that REX was far below it`s maximum. The radome being destroyed is the reason Snake ended up being hurt after the battle, since he was forced to leave the cockpit open. However, the armor, for the most part, was still intact. When Snake stopped it in MGS1, he merely disabled it. Additionally, it`s power cell shut down after the fight as a result of it`s previous use 9 years prior. But I agree, it would have been a more impressive battle with REX being at full capacity, in my opinion,

Metal Gear Rex wasn't really mass produced like Ray was. There were other countries making there own "type" of Rex but not Rex itself. And Armor isn't enough to protect itself against Ray. Ray could easily Water Jet Cutter the Radome forcing the cockpit to open up again. Even at full power Ray abilities seem to great for Rex
Well, that's a very blunt way of putting it. But everything thats designed to be better than the last isn't always better. Rex would definitely be a problem for Ray no matter how you look at it. But it just seems that Ray has a edge in battle but a edge is not the only thing that determine a battle.
...And i don't personlly think Liquid was bad at handling Metal Gears i honestly think that since the Protagonist usually beat the Antagonist in stories, Liquid (Antagonist) made silly choices like charging Snake head on so that the player may win.

Yes, as faaux said, the water cutter forces water out at a very high pressure, and in real life (not just in-game), pressurized water is an extremely effective cutting method. Metal workers, ect., use water to cut what diamond-tipped tools won`t.
For having been shot up with RPG's being launched by one guy and then being left on an abondoned military base on a deserted island for almost ten years Rex isn't in that bad of shape.
Show's what a awesome machine Rex is, Ray couldn't stay deserted that long as it's biomechical, it's leg's would of decayed, if Rex had it's dome working Snake would of been totally sealed off and Rex would of been even more deadly.
Gotta remember that RAY was designed 2 combat the pirate REX's that came from Ocelot leaking REX's design onto the black market.... all of which are nothing compared to the original REX!

Just for the sake of settling the dispute, it is worth to note that during the fight against Rex in MGS1, Otacon says the following:
"Snake, Rex's armor is impregnable."
"Rex's armor is perfect. You can't destroy it."
As for his wee wee laser,
"It can generate an incredible amount of energy...pretty close to 100 megawatts. That's ten times greater than any other laser out there."
And last but not least:

it truly depends on whose controlling the Metals Gears. after all Solid Snake is a person known for making the impossible possible.. but if it was your average Joe in each Metal Gear i believe the battle could've went any way.

Otacon was just informing Snake on what he could do with Rex he wasn't actually controlling it. But Ocelot has massive experience with controlling Metal Gears. Plus creating something and having the experience of using it is significantly different...

My favourite is also REX. But as for REX not winning the fight against RAY logically, it`s worth noting that firstly, both RAY and REX, in this battle, shared almost identical attacks. AT Missiles, Machineguns, and variations on beams, REX having the laser, and RAY having the water cutter. However, REX`s "streetfighter" program allowed it to surpass it`s original limitations, due to Liquid not being aware of it, and it using REX`s armor as a weapon in itself. Those are all good points.. Its true that Rex streetfighter program is something to watch out for. but i think the battle can still go both ways.. lets see let me try to explain it. like for one Rex armor can't be touched but say if Ray was to use the WaterCutter on the Radome! unlike a sword and missles a WaterCutter would've destroyed the radome in one shot forcing once again the cockpit to open. ......that REX was far below it`s maximum. The radome being destroyed is the reason Snake ended up being hurt after the battle, since he was forced to leave the cockpit open. However, the armor, for the most part, was still intact. When Snake stopped it in MGS1, he merely disabled it. Additionally, it`s power cell shut down after the fight as a result of it`s previous use 9 years prior. But I agree, it would have been a more impressive battle with REX being at full capacity, in my opinion,

- can easily leap stories in the air. making it very fast. i honestly believe the Only reason you were able to beat Ray in that battle is because it ws apart of the story to beat him. and thusly Ocelot made silly choices like charging Rex head on. instead of fighting from a distance. But with that being said it doesn't mean Ray could beat Rex as those were "if" statements. ok lets switch it up. lets have Snake in Ray and Ocelot in Rex the outcome of that could be switch as well since Snake...

Is known for making the impossible possible. but instead of using facts from the Fourth wall (lol) we can all agree that Ray gave Rex a run for its money but ALSO remember that Ray strongest concept is that unlike Rex, Ray is mass produced. why else would Ray be mass produced but if not for double teaming the Rex variations around the world. with that concept in mind although it was a one on one because Ocelot probably wanted a solo duel. A real battle probably would've been 6 Rays on one Rex

AGAIN i know it probably doesn't sound like it due to me backing up the Ray but Metal Gear Rex is in fact my favorite Gear.. but i still think Ray was the dominant one in the battle. Ray in my opinion is a lil boring.. in MGS trying to get to Rex bulited hype for it and kinda made you fear it. but Ray is just.. "I'm new... fear me" i don't know there was just no hype for Ray like there was for Rex. but these are only my opinons

Metal Gear Rex wasn't really mass produced like Ray was. There were other countries making there own "type" of Rex but not Rex itself. And Armor isn't enough to protect itself against Ray. Ray could easily Water Jet Cutter the Radome forcing the cockpit to open up again. Even at full power Ray abilities seem to great for Rex

Well, that's a very blunt way of putting it. But everything thats designed to be better than the last isn't always better. Rex would definitely be a problem for Ray no matter how you look at it. But it just seems that Ray has a edge in battle but a edge is not the only thing that determine a battle.

...And i don't personlly think Liquid was bad at handling Metal Gears i honestly think that since the Protagonist usually beat the Antagonist in stories, Liquid (Antagonist) made silly choices like charging Snake head on so that the player may win.

Yes, as faaux said, the water cutter forces water out at a very high pressure, and in real life (not just in-game), pressurized water is an extremely effective cutting method. Metal workers, ect., use water to cut what diamond-tipped tools won`t.
