Interesting. Gogen Yamaguchis son, I think it was Gosie ( sp?) came to Seattle in 1968 and did this. I was a white belt then and wasn't allowed to see it. thanks for showing this
@aqx770 Yes, sadly that was the way with Gosei's organization. Everything above your rank was treated as secret. I spent @ 10 years there and never saw anyone do advanced kata. The first day with my Okinawan Sensei I was learning Suparenpai. Probably why his organization to almost gone. But he was very talented.
Interesting. Thank you for the history lesson. Over the past lets see, 1967 - 2012 is , well it will be 45 years this summer, I've had much the same experience with the Okinawan masters.
@NewEnglandBudo On a somewhat related note, I'd like your thoughts on a Go Ju issue. Kuda San would talk a bit about the five animals. I was thinking a few days ago about sanchin breathing. As I recall it was supposed to be like a lion. But lions don't breath that way. Another animal does, though. Snakes in particular and cobras in particular. Maybe GoJu has some relation to snake system? Your thoughts? btw, if you would rather, my email is Breakness@aol.com. Cheers and Happy New Years.
@aqx770 Sorry about the tardiness but I never received your question and just found it. The 5 Animals are Crane, Dragon, Snake Tiger, and Leopard. Yes, I have heard the misinformation about the lion having bad breath. ;-P The breathing in Tensho/Sanchin has 5 types. More on that, Uechi uses a different type of breathing despite the closeness of Higaonna's teacher & Uechi's teacher in proximity. Please also let me suggest that you consider the 5 element theory used in CMA/ Chinese MA.
thank you for your response. I"ve also wondered if Goju had roots in Tao as opposed to Shuri Te which from what I can find out was Buddhist from Shao lin - reff Sokan's final words about seeing the lights from the temple.
@Pecherin72 Hah! Old?? I turned 55 on Saturday and it was the 40th anniv of my beginning to train. Now that's old my friend. Yes, your kata are looking a lot better. Timing is good. Except for the double cartwheel jump spinning death punch. That needs a bit more work!! xO
@NewEnglandBudo Hehhe, Belated Happy Birthday wishes, I turned 40 10 days ago....
Thanks for the encouraging comments. Right leg still wobbly during that spin and squat ( knee surgery in 07), I have tried to compensate for it as much as I could these last few years, but nothing escapes you :D
Hello. We spoke a very long time ago.
Just wanted to say that you look like you have improved a lot since some of your previous videos. Very nice.
