Barbra is amazing, but this song is, for me meant to be a duet. that is why the only versions of this song that i can listen to in their entirety are duets of the original broadway cast, the broadway revival and the movie version. But skip that part, barbra is amazing and this song is amazing, her version is amazing, but it doesn't have the same effect on me as a duet does.

The voice, like any musical instrument, must not be over-extended or used too strenuously. I clearly stated that Barba slowing down her music career in the 80's is why those pipes have stayed golden for so long. Not even Tony Bennett or Ella Fitzgerald did albums every year or made musical appearances every day.
Barbra still sounds good (not great) because releases albums and performs at a slower pace (unlike Whitney, who was singing to the max in her 20's and 30's). Barbra did the bulk of her singing in the 60's and 70's, then started to relax after the "Guilty" album in 1980. A lesson to all singers: don't jump at every chance to sing, because the voice will wear out if you use it all the time! Barbra is living proof of this, and that's why her career has lasted so long.
you're wrong. Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, Ella fitzgerald, and all the band singers from that time ang day-in & day-out, on nightly gigs that went on all year, sometimes three shows a night. It's the drug use that kills the voice, not the over-singing. If anything, their voices are strengthened by the use, not worn out. Streisand doesn't drink , smoke, or do drugs, unlike poor Whitney and so many (practically all) of our contemporary singers.
The voice is not what it once was and has lost a lot of clarity, but it's still in great shape for Babs to be in her 60's. Whitney Houston is 20 years younger than Barbra, but her voice is shot. And that's sad, considering that both Barbra & Whitney were at the top of their game in the 80's and 90's. Whitney should have taken a lesson from Barbra: do not overuse the voice or oversing. It's an instrument, and it can break easily if you use it too much.

And that's sad, considering that both Barbra & Whitney were at the top of their game in the 80's and 90's. Whitney should have taken a lesson from Barbra: do not overuse the voice or oversing. It's an instrument, and it can break easily if you use it too much.

I can only put Whitney and Barbra in the same category. They both won Grammys,, Oscars, and Emmys. Whitney is still a legend, no one can put that down. Her achievements alone in sales and awards is staggering, The most awarded female artist worldwide, The female artist with most weeks spent at number 1 for all albums, the only female who won 22 American Music Awards, has the Bestselling Soundtrack of all time (The Bodyguard), and 7 consecutive number 1 singles to boot.

Don't you all get that she is a singing talent not just a nose! Frankly if she thought her nose would improve her image or voice she would have had it done years ago. It's her signature look, so get used to it....Her longevity speaks volumes.
