Bill Medley sang this so much better than Hall and Oates. When we still had independent radio stations in the Bay Area, the Hall and Oates version came out. The DJ played it and then immidiately followed that with The Righteous Brothers version from the 1960's. Nobody needed prompting what sounded better, had quality, and had one bond with the sound. What the DJ has done is to separate the gold from the dross.
