You need a reference sound, like a person talking in the same room as the source of the sound. Just like you can't tell how big or small something is without seeing something else in the same picture, you can't tell how loud or soft something is by only hearing that sound (unless you hear the speaker screw up because it couldn't handle the volume; that would be a sound reference).

That's the thing about shrinking the footprint compared to Xbox 1. Two smaller CPU fans instead of one large one = more RPMs = higher psychoacoustics. And the Xbox 1 wasn't exactly quiet either.
I think the next generation of consoles should work on that. Our old, simple processors in the Mega Drive, SNES, PS1 and Gamecube etc were nearly silent as they had no fans.
We need to get noise levels down again; bigger processors running underclocked and such.

You simply need the disc in the tray so you can pretty much back up the fact that you own the game. :| it's not really that big of a deal. The disc won't get scratched so that's not an issue.

Dude i got a by a new hardrive (because mine is the 1 that came with pro and i have about 8 gb...sucks) and install all my games and sell them to gamestop and keep doing that over and over again.
It's alright, but 120gb is not enough...that's why I prefer PC gaming, or on the PS3 you at least can change to whatever hard drive size you want whenever you want without voiding the warranty since you just use 2.5'' laptop hard drives which you can get up to 500gb right now if I'm not mistaken for less than the price of the 360 120gb drive (unless you have the elite, but it's because of that the elite is so overpriced).

True, but not the game themselves, I prefer PC gaming but there are a lot of games that don't make it to the PC ever so I prefer having both (which I do).
That is true though, back when I had a 360 I didn't hear it at all (even though I had one of the older models without HDMI) because the games were usually louder unless I played the games at very low volumes (which I don't have to do since I live alone).
but when it is installed, the xbox doesnt have to keep spinning the fans to get the information from the disc, it can just use the information stored on the HD to run the game, and thus making the Xbox run alot quieter than normal.

it depends on the game, and how often it needs to load different levels and such. when you load a game you should hear the cd drive spooling plus the cooling fan may kick on from time to time. when a game is installed on your hard drive, you will notice less noise while loading because the hard drive spools much quieter then the cd drive. if you can't hear anything its probly because your system is too far from you being able to hear it or in a tight space.

Dude i got a by a new hardrive (because mine is the 1 that came with pro and i have about 8 gb...sucks) and install all my games and sell them to gamestop and keep doing that over and over again.

It's alright, but 120gb is not enough...that's why I prefer PC gaming, or on the PS3 you at least can change to whatever hard drive size you want whenever you want without voiding the warranty since you just use 2.5'' laptop hard drives which you can get up to 500gb right now if I'm not mistaken for less than the price of the 360 120gb drive (unless you have the elite, but it's because of that the elite is so overpriced).

Installing can also cut load times on some games. Installing GTA4 reduces the initial load time by 30%. But they also said load times for Halo3 are just as long if not worse, so it's not a cure-all.

True, but not the game themselves, I prefer PC gaming but there are a lot of games that don't make it to the PC ever so I prefer having both (which I do).

That is true though, back when I had a 360 I didn't hear it at all (even though I had one of the older models without HDMI) because the games were usually louder unless I played the games at very low volumes (which I don't have to do since I live alone).

but when it is installed, the xbox doesnt have to keep spinning the fans to get the information from the disc, it can just use the information stored on the HD to run the game, and thus making the Xbox run alot quieter than normal.

it depends on the game, and how often it needs to load different levels and such. when you load a game you should hear the cd drive spooling plus the cooling fan may kick on from time to time. when a game is installed on your hard drive, you will notice less noise while loading because the hard drive spools much quieter then the cd drive. if you can't hear anything its probly because your system is too far from you being able to hear it or in a tight space.
