  • I still get goosebumps when I hear the Divine One sing this song!

  • Yes,yes, yes !!!!...Sassy doin' her thang !...thank for the post !

  • This Wynton guy is simply a magician.. great.

  • 3:20 check out his incredible C# bend to D. I love this performance.

  • @TheJazzSwings pardon, his bend from c to c#

  • This is one of the best live performance human kinds ever accomplished.

  • Superb violin solo! Great playing!

  • Mi vida es completa! I've lived for matter what fate has in store for me it cannot take away the joy I've known. It was Augiust but September will have to do!

  • I hope this audience was aware of the privilage they were given.

  • WOw

  • Grande marsala.forse il più completo.

  • He doesn't just quote Brown's solo. He plagiarises it!!!!! Still wonderful though.

  • Like you've never heard it before! Dreamy, wistful, perfection!

  • Perfect for a lovely September morning.

  • OMG!!!!

  • This was the song my Mom requested for her funeral. My eldest son sang it. Not a dry eye in the place.

  • I know I'm going to sound really ungrateful...you wouldn't happen to have the beginning of this programme too? To open her segment Sarah Vaughan sings a soaring, operatic version of "Body and Soul", a rendition that informs an age. I have a segment of it on an old cassette tape and I don't know what I'll do when it finally, finally wears out. This, "Autumn Leaves" is simply phenomenal too. Thank you so very much for sharing this beautiful gift.

  • @buffalmacco76 That would be heavenly. No, Divine! Thanks in advance.

  • me gusta esto para una amiga en miami

  • She is freakin amazing!!! Wow!

  • It doesn't get much better than this!

  • what an amazingly beautiful, rich voice

  • Thanks for posting. It's so clear.

  • A true jewel to discover this great piece of herstory.

  • whats "herstory"?

  • I don't know whether Wynton was asked to do Clifford Brown's solo or whether he did it as a tribute, it was a very fine way to do it. The young man, he was twenty-two or so, had lots of time to do his own thing.

    And he has.

  • wow Wynton's a little baby in this :)

And Ms Vaughan................... chilling as always, such a soulful voice

  • I love the way Sarah sings this song, this is one of my favorite. I read that she never sang any song the same way twice. Whatever she was feeling she was interpreting. Gotta love that! Always a fresh interpretation.

  • i got to see Ms.Vaughan at Royce Hall at UCLA back in the late 70s. an experience i'll never forget. thx you Ms.Vaughan.

  • To quote one of my favorite comedians Phil Hartman ........ "Delicious"

  • I love the Sarah handles this song. I love that Marselis kissed her before the song.

  • the way she shakes...

  • That is so fine.

  • You guys are being pretty hard on a 23 year old Wynton. Any horn player would tell you that's damn fine playing.

  • A very tasty choice. Thanks 4 posting.

  • Very nice but, even with the more modern recording technology , Marsalis' solo does not come close to Clifford Brown's art piece.

  • I think you're right. But I think that (based on what I know of large orchestra versions of jazz classics), they probably asked him to do Brown's solo. Notice that Sarah herself is humming along with it during Wynton's solo. I think that was a bad choice and they should have let Wynton do his own things as he and Sarah interacted much better when they did so spontaneously.

  • Grandes artistas todos..¡gran cantante!

  • Sarah is just the greatest singer ever, but Marsalis is not a good jazzman, here he didnt even improvise, just repeat (badly) Cliffords classic solo.

  • Great Sarah!

  • I too am awestruck too by this Goddess.

If i really listen intently to her singing i almost can't stand it.....!!

  • this is chilling...

  • What a gal! What a great duet. Thanks for posting.

  • Yes. A wonderful duo!

  • thank you for these clips leather! I saw this air on PBS around 1993 and recorded it on VHS then. Over the years due to much wear and tear I wore it out. I tried buying the whole show from PBS but no one knew what I was talking about. A millian thanks again

  • Awesome! Sassy rules!

  • Wynton looks a bit like a young Herbie Hancock here..

  • i think he looks like will smith

I don't agree with a previous comment that this version is better than the recorded one in Sarah Vaughan w/ Clifford Brown. They are equally good. In this clip, sarah has a lightspot on her own; in the recorded version, I sarah has a great dynamic with other muscians, and the tone is more compact in structure when compared to what I hear in this clip.

  • That. That was magnificent. I enjoy how Sarah here, decades after the Clifford Brown recording doesn't drop the virtuosity. The tones roll fluidly. Marsalis is just as sensitive as Brown was on the record and quotes Brown well on the solo. Nice to see this and think about seeing her do the version I know so well in the studio.

    Thanks for this.

  • no matter the status of the musicians around her she eclipsed them all...

  • she was so damn amazing!

  • Anyone have the beginning? Sarah sings "Body and Soul"?

  • If you like this song: Check out the 1954 recording of Vaughan with Clifford Brown. Marsalis' imitation of Brown's somehow fades away, compared to the original.

  • No doubt the original recording was the template for this arrangement. I think they asked Wynton to redo Brown's solo. Consequently, it doesn't sound as fresh as the other parts of this song and the others where he and Sarah interact more organically.

  • It's Vaughan.

  • What a beautiful rendition; try the Ellen Merryl version it is spectacular

  • You mean Helen Merrill, right?

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this, completely enthralled by Sarah Vaughan's voice. Does anyone have the beginning of this programme, where Sarah Vaughan sings "Body and Soul"? Now that was a rendition to die for.

  • The only constant in my life has been my love for Sarah Vaughan. She moves me like no other

  • Happy September, everyone. I used to play this song every September first from an old cassette. Thanks for posting. Sarah Vaughan and Mr. Marsalis. (Hint, it's Vaughan)

  • I use to celebrate September with Art Pepper's version of this wonderful tune, but this is great too! That's the magic of jazz. Thanks to Kurt Weill too

  • Sublime. Is there anything more to say?

  • This version of September Song is much better than the recorded version. Sarah vocal range, interpretation of a song, and manipulation of notes were all so great that I am left in complete amazement. Boy! I wish I had her abilities.

  • I play this version every September. My tape is getting very old. Thank you, no, bless you for posting this. Woohooo... now I can go digital with it.

  • I love this song because it's so nostalgic!

  • which year was this?

  • I'm not exactly sure, but I think it is from about 1984.

  • Brilliant. I think Wynton's solo is from Sarah's collaboration with Clifford Brown. Very good nonetheless.

  • You are correct. Wynton's solo is taken from Brownie's solo.

  • thanks for posting this. i saw it many years ago and always wanted to see it again. briliant!
