I remember being at a Cincinnati's game, back in 2000... I was 11. It was Griffey's first year as a Red. The Reds were facing the Mariners at Cinncinati Stadium. Dad and I were sitting out in right field, two rows from the wall. Griffey wasn't doing well that day. I think he only got on base one time. Well, when the Mariners were up at bat, and Griffey was out in right field, my dad yelled, "Griffey, you suck." He turned around and shook his junk at my dad.
Actually it was Griffeys decision to leave the Mariners. After one of his golfer friends died in a plane crash he claimed he wanted to be closer to his family and asked to be traded to Cinci. At the time he was one of if not the best player in the league.
lol Griffeys my favorite player and I love him, but dude, Griffey is only playing for 1 year with the M's just until he retires. We still need Ichiro after that.
I was at this game and this was pretty close to where I was sitting. I got the chills during that 10 minute standing ovation he got and can't wait to see him back again, yet this time as a Mariner! We love you Griffey!
griffey is on my top 5 greatest players to ever play the game...ppl need to show him some fuckin respect....just cause his numbers have went down...look what he did for the game and for the teams he was on. everyone should be interested in him....he needs to show younger hittters his perfect swing...and show them they dont need to use fuckin roiiiiiiiids to hit HR's. Griffey is the greatest player the last decade, fuck the media
now arod admits to using roids....almost every power hitter from the late 90's up to 2003ishsss...(my childhood) is linked to fuckin roidsss!! i use to love some of those players...now i hate em...griffeys name has never been mentioned...and he's been my fave player since i could remember....its sickening to hear reporters say he should retire....and that teams dont show interest in him, and that the CWS didnt use him everyday.
I'm a huge Reds fan and I miss him. When healthy he was one of the top 5 all-time greats. Many in Cincy didn't appreciate him. I will always love him for the fact that when he was the best in the game he took less money to go the reds than he could have gotten in New York. For that I will always be grateful. He always seemed like a nice guy off the field who just liked to have fun.

I lived in Seattle for 4 years while he was playing and couldn't stand him. He had the mentality of a child and zero leadership qualtites. He'd get hot and hit HRs in bunches but his other hits were a lot of bloops and dinks when he wasn't striking out. Totally over-hyped ballplayer due to Seattle needed a media star to help carry that franchise. ZERO world series appearances for Ken Griffey despite being on talent-laden teams shows he was over-hyped.

Uh no, he played with his dad in Seattle. He didn't leave Seattle to play with his dad. Sr. was retired for 9 years in 2000.Reverendjordan, Another failure of the public school system
i went to the second reds game and it was awesome when griffey hit two homeruns and everyone was cheering for him even though he was on the visiting team.
Show some goddamn respect. I don't care if Griffey ends up hitting .100, or even .050. If the guy still wants to have a spot on the Mariners roster, then I and any true M's fan would want the same. Again, it's about something called respect; seeing how this was the guy who was responsible for keeping the Mariners in Seattle, along w/ being one of the greatest players to have ever played the game of baseball.
He says he wants to retire as a Mariner and I hope the powers that be realize what a great thing that would be for the city of Seattle and especially for Mariners fans.
I remember going to M's games at the Kingdome. I love the fact that the fans still love Griffey because we appreciate what he has done for the NW in baseball. I don't think we can blame him for wanting to play In Cincinatti and be closer to his fam. I think that's noble, and that's why I respect him. He's also a kick-ass player, and a favorite to a lot of people, and being that inter-league play is the only way we can see him live again in the NW, the fans have every right to be happy to see him
eh i dont get it. im from chicago, and obviously worshiped jordan growing up but when he was on the wizards and they played the bulls i wanted the bulls to win and jordan to fail.. its called being a sell out but apparently everyone in seattle is on crack if they would rather have griffey hitting bombs at safeco than having the M's win.. -6 or not, seattle fans are pretty stupid for this, as this is at least the 10th griffey at safeco return video i've seen where the fans were cheering for him
your basically a douche bag i dont know why you would root against your favorite player if u say it is jordan, thats not being a sellout its called being a good person wanting to be close to your family and the people in seattle understand that because they like griffey and know what he has done for the mariners
I was at that game! And about 2 or 3 sections over closer to the first baseline... Man they really kicked are ass that day! But the ceremony before the game was amazing!! I am going to opening day this year and I bet we will win since Bedard is pitching:)
your an asshole, Griffey was the greatest player to ever play for the mariners and did so much for the team and any true mariners fan still loves him. You are a disgrace
That's so fucking ungrateful to say. How the fuck was it embarrassing to be a Mariners fan? Griffey did so much during his tenure with the Mariners. He put asses in the seats. He helped the Mariners win 2 West division titles while he was there. Are you bitter because he wanted to be closer to his family? He has said that he wanted to play for the Mariners again someday. Like cdellwo said, he was the greatest player to play for the M's. Embarrassing my ass.
