@henrycaville Yes I agree, my point is, in view of how long kate takes to produce a body of work. It seems a little perverse to then go back to perfect it.I think if kate had decided to perform this set as a live show and then recorded it. Then the whole project would have been justified. Because Kate has not to date developed as a Live performer these songs have languished in their original state, they never got the chance to be performed and thus evolve. She knows this.
I wonder if it'll be available like exactly on 26th, you know at midnight. Because I realy really really can't wait (and yet I've been listening to Tori Amos all day :))
@RawBrian18 I think you mean to say "enunciate" as in e·nun·ci·ate. And "Wuthering Heights" got to number one in the UK and still remains her biggest selling single. So people have heard of her. And relevance is subjective.
I've always thought that Deeper Understanding was ahead of its time. We have definitely moved into an age where we spend more times with electronics than people and we are more upset by misplacing our phones than actually calling someone. This reworking makes this brilliant point even more poignant by updating this.
@RawBrian18 This Woman's Work is very popular in its original form. I have NEVER heard the Maxwell version used in commercial purposes, but have heard Kate's version many times.
I am not surprised the single fell out of the charts after limping in at 86?
It is her weakest release in years, it is too close to the original yet it seems lethargic in comparison. A directors cut is when a Director restores lost material to a piece in order to express their vision in it's entirety. Not to go back and re-make, if its not broke don't fix it Kate. I long to hear something new from Mrs Bush.
given the absolute crap that gets in the charts these days,if i was kate i'd be thankful it didn't get in! besides kate dosn't make music so it will get to number one the whole time, she makes it because she wants to or has been inspired by something.
Love it!!! The signals coming out of the T.V remind me of Ariel!!!! Its so exciting having all this kate news to get excited about!! I cant wait for tomorrowwwww
I have a weird feeling that Director's Cut came from Kate Bush figuring out and playing with new music technologies and techniques. Maybe she used songs that she'd already created to have somewhere to start, so that she would feel comfortable when going forward and making brand new music with brand new technology.
Strange....why relase this video on 26th of april? Now that this song already dropped out of the charts.......Would the video help to get it back into the charts? I doubt...
The robot-voiced chorus is just one example of how Kate Bush likes experimenting in music: 'Experiment IV', the whole 'The Ninth Wave' and 'The Dreaming'...she's always been playing with sound in the recording studio. She's done so once again on this track. No surprise. She's got talent and courage... She follows her own artistic path. She is the precious Kate Bush. A gem.
Bertie does such a great job. I love this and I'm really not getting why people aren't digging it.
It isn't about anything being subtle or trying to make things obvious like other "artists", it's about the choices made to bring the song to life. There's nothing about Kate Bush that would ever follow anything that today's "artists" are doing. There are so many musicians that list Kate Bush as an inspiration, young and old, and that's how it should be. Glad you're back, Kate!
cannot express how excited I am, I love how the characters in her videos come across, it helps they're loveable people in their own right...full of love
i love this so much!!! the coloured sound waves coming out of the computer are like electric fish or something (maybe a fish people reference)and i love the rocky horror lips!!!!can't wait to see the rest of it!!!eeeeep!
Looks like Kate's lips with a vinyl coating...might be all we see of Kate if she's sticking to directing others and not herself, too. Hoping she's not overloading herself, again, like she did back in '92/'93.
@loooooooo65432 I would love a cameo of some kind... even if it was just her mouth on the screen :D I think a cameo might even beat her being a "main character"... cameos just have an awesome vibe.
@loooooooo65432 I agree, I really hope she ends up appearing in this video and is not afraid to show herself, for what ever reason, fans would like to see what a contemporary Kate looks like today. She is the same age as Madonna afterall, 52/53 is not old anymore.
I love Kate Bush's music and creativity, but I just don;t get this new version: it is so much less subtle than the original, and the video clip here just underlies that fact. Is it partly a sign of the times - that actually audiences need things to be more obvious? But if that's the case, it seem unlike Kate to bow to such pressures. having said that, this is still miles better than most of the stuff that's churned out these days.
WTF? I do hope the entire track isn't going to be with auto-tune. I HATE auto-tune soooooo much. It's for people who CAN'T sing. And Kate has the most beautiful, unique and interesting singing voice possible.
Okay Kate - I see that it's part of a STORY, and it's the computer 'singing'. I shall wait until I've seen the entire thing and then decided if I think you've 'ruined' your beautiful track or not!!! We fans can be quite annoying can't they? :)
@ajnastarheart The song is out already, you can check it out. The auto-tune parts are just those of the computer in the chorus (sung by her son Bertie). And as you've already said yourself - this isn't using auto-tune for the sake of using it, like many others do, but a valid and calculated artistic choice, which works perfectly well (Well, at least for me).
@Yetaxa Yeah, I agree, it sounds like a Vocoder, but there's been much debate about this. Some people claim this effect could be done also with auto-tune, and that it sounds like this is what was used here. I wouldn't know. I'm no expert on the matter...
Cannot wait, Kate! I am loving the redux of this and look forward to the rest of "Director's Cut" as well as your upcoming album of all NEW material!! So blessed to have you back!
Just got the single at the Radio Station I work at. Great tune, where's the video?

@SelectCircle That's her son's voice... It's supposed to sounds like a computer.

Also she has messed with voice to great effect in the past. I'm thinking Leave it Open.
