David Coburn, six years later, DIC had him do two series; New Kids On The Block (Donnie Wahlberg/Nikko) & Captain Planet (the title character & Captain Polution), the power is yours!
DIC was ran by Jean Chalopin, a french guy. He has also created MASK, The mysterious cities of Gold, Jayce and the wheeled warriors. Btw the french title songs use the same music but lyrics adapted in english and french.
CindyLover1969 now I'm convinced he was a writer here (PP) doing further reasearch
he also compsed the soundtrack to the first TMNT animated series before beginning his very long, very successful and very lucrative sitcom career. though IMO save for Roseanne (which got him started and Cybill i never liked any of those aforementioned sitcoms
probably nothing, never saw the show in its original run (and im an 80s kid ) my thought is that namco (now NamcoBandai) wanted to make some more dough offa their popular game by selling a "cartoon "loosely based it .on just straight honest capitalism
At 0:06 they have the writing credits, and Chuck Lorre (future creator of "Grace Under Fire," "Cybill," "Dharma & Greg," "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory") is one of the writers listed.
hmmm you may be right but you may be wrong. I read that he started his TV career in 1986, Pole Position was canccled that year. so it may be another man with that name too. but then again you never know.

Well, I'll be damned. It actually IS based off a videogame. At 0:27, if you look at the bottom of the credits, Namco is mentioned.

@NinjaGhostScorpion - Holy shit, yer right... but it's easier to catch at the 0:25 mark.

man. the theme had such a good beat. The vocals just kind of ruin it.

I have to agree. The music was great, but I guess they tried to save money on the singers.

Music was by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy, during their 80's music days, before Power Rangers.

is this the precursor of todays racing animes like initial D?
mekandarobo 3 years ago
Nah this was losely based on an old Atari game. I'd say Speedracer would be the precursor of racing anime shows.

Pole Position was made by Namco Ltd. (now Namco Bandai Games Inc.) Atari got the license to market the video game in America.

Yes, Chuck Lorre also worked on Heathcliff (syndicated) as "head writer" the same year he was doing POLE POSITION for CBS-TV.
